Edina game was a weird one in the early going, but they eventually beat Eden Prairie 6-3.
Hornets on the board second shift. On a PK, Jungels passed across to Walker on a 2-on-1. 10 bangs it into the empty net. Or so it seemed. Dietrich actually got over to make a save with the leg pad. Still 1-0.
Penalty expires, but a second or two later a shot from the point rings off the post and pops weak side. Bang, rebound is in and it's tied.
Shot from the goal line hits Mackay and bounces in. Then BB17 turns it over onto the tape of Jensen, one of the most dangerous goal scorers around. Eagles up 3-1 with all three coming in barely over a minute.
From there Mackay played very well. No more goals against. Took Edina a while to claw back, but they eventually got the goals and took a lead 4-3. A late one followed by empty netter and it is 6-3 final.
Edina needs to avoid giving up the bad goals in order to beat good teams in the postseason. Tonight showed they still aren't there yet.

Greenway 6, Hibbing 2. Hibbing tried a neutral zone trap in the first period that was not that effective. Greenway controlled the first and second periods while Hibbing took over the third. Assistant A.D. said that seedings would be out today and the feeling was Greenway would either play the Falls or Hibbing on Tuesday. Hats off to the Hibbing fans. Brought a good sized group and the students were very loud in the third period. You would have thought it was played in Hibbing.

I got there after the 1st. Funny you mention about Brinkman & turnover because I thought he was awesome in the 2nd & 3rd. EP's a better team than their record shows, but Edina just keeps coming at you in waves.O-townClown wrote:Edina game was a weird one in the early going, but they eventually beat Eden Prairie 6-3.

One question: who was #16 on Edina? The tall beanpole. Seemed out of place with Edina's fast guys.

Edina @ EP 2/15/18
As OTC put it - this was definitely an odd game. A microcosm of Edina's worst and best. We saw the Hornet float around nonchalantly early thus finding themselves down 2-1, then 3-1 in a blink. The BB turnover was especially poor, having turned to survey the landscape, grab puck and w/o looking for the no-look pass RIGHT TO THE MIDDLE OF THE ICE in his own end...and theres Jensen, having read BB intentions the whole way, receiving that pass w/ a kelly green bow on it - this led, as we all know, to a breakaway on GM, that is an automatic goal. Was worst stretch/lapse for BB and the D overall since the rough Holiday/early January stretch whilst Giles on the shelf. 2nd game w/o MV as well (so its a confirmed 2-week sit for him but thankfully he will be back for Sections next week - he is missed, for sure). Line chemistry was off again though, even as DK was back and in fine form w/ 2G and 1A, as Max Borst was sitting this one out with hopefully a minor injury. Borst is a strong 3rd line presence and hustler who always throws himself in the mix on forecheck and back-checking...one of those players you always ask - "who is that hustler"? Borst just grows on you as season progresses (can't wait to see his brother, Jackson Borst come up ranks next season - word is - he will be something to watch!)
So yes, an odd tilt at EP - EP always plays Edina hard even in a down year - the EP effort last night was also deeply rooted in trying to avoid a 4-game season sweep by Edina. Must Burn Jensen to deal with that...?
All of that said - was good to see BB rebound and play stronger/tighter as game progressed. Does Sammy need to be a bit more selfish at times? He's great, one of most exhilarating players at HS level, and we love his unselfish-ness, but there IS a time and a place to turn on the jets and NOT pass behind you off the stick of a teammate and lose puck possession - just shoot and shoot and shoot! Maybe I'm wrong. But he could be a "pinch" more selfish at the right time as game dictates. Its nit-picking and just a vibe...but when you see this trend live - it becomes unnerving. One other sense last night was that Edina, even down 3-1 early, never seem rattled, never seemed least bit concerned this result was ever in doubt - I even thought halfway through the 3rd that the Hornet eased up on the gas a bit? Which had them falling into very sloppy on both ends - then at 6 1\2 minute mark in 3rd? The foot tapped the gas, shifted down and blink, blink its 5-3 and capped w/ a MN ENG for the 6-3 final. Like they received permission to suddenly put it away...? But I guess thats puck for you! The Hornet definitely need to tighten it up, step on gas and never let up (see Mtka at Braemar game) get MV back in the mix (as well as Borst) and rest up for Sectionals - hopefully with a chip on their shoulder and a desire for Tonka rd #4...
Who is/was #16? There seems to be some cloning going on - I used to assume it was Chorske as well - as they've been bringing up Chorske (early in the year), Emmett Wurst, Michael Nelson and Trevon Couser most recently. According to early season and recent gameday programs it lists Couser #15 as D/F, Wurst #16 as a C/F, Chorske #17 as a C/F...presumably up and shuffled in last couple games w/ DK, Borst & MV out recently. The one way to truly tell Chorske, with all due respect, is the clanky legs when he kicks off stride...he's a very tall kid and all legs (6'2" - 6'3"?) who simply hasn't grown into those legs yet - a bit slow and ploddy in and out of his starts/stops buthas some scoring ability, but as 2nd year JV player the ceiling appears limited. On flip side? He could be that guy that in 3 years? Finishes up his 2nd season in NAHL and starts to dominate in college - just a late bloomer until he grows into himself...TBD. (Edina JV beat EP JV 10-3 and I think Edina JC has lost only twice all year? Decent size and some smooth scorers in Wurst, Nelson & Delaney).
Lets wrap up the season with a win over WYZ this Saturday and stay healthy!
