Slingers Preseason Forcast
Re: Slingers Preseason Forcast
slinger. jefferson is strong without connelly. levine and addyman will step it up, i predict, and have a banner year scoring points. their arch rival, eden prairie, may be legitimate also this season. a prelude to the upcoming season was when they dominated a breck team during the summer STP festival. a breck team composed of herd, inderieden and fulton, three players on the elite 1 NW team, two of them leading all point totals. for the ep team to shut them out 7-0 is worth noting even though it's only a summer game! they exhibited balance and teamwork in that victory. attributes any coach can build on.

Re: Slingers Preseason Forcast
dman, good point on Sarsland. I'm not a big fan of his style but he gets everything he can from his players; however, Cloquet's Dave Esse and East's Mike Randolph are just as good at motivating their players.

The Cloquet-East rivalry might be the best in the state right now but adding ER to the mix gives more heat to an already intense sectional tournament. The notoriously soft ice at the DECC could turn to slush this spring if these three teams and Grand Rapids square off for a tourney berth.

I'd also agree that Holy Angels should be the best team in the state this year. As slinger points out, motivation may be their biggest hurdle but with the best coach in the state at the helm I don't see them slipping up. In fact, I see a team with the potential to go undefeated. This isn't any great revelation though, after all they are the defending champs. Considering the team's jinxed state tournament history slinger's pick of WBL is more surprising but even though I'm more of a Roseville fan I wouldn't mind seeing the Bears win it all.

Re: Slingers Preseason Forcast
On paper, slinger's choice of WBL is a good one.

They have a lot of players back from a team that tied AHA twice , beat Jefferson twice and lost to Moorhead by one goal.

They lost some good seniors..I think the leading scorer was a senior...but everydoby does.

There is just one little problem...the dreaded curse. As WBLBEARS06 has reminded us on occassion...the curse lives on.

But hey, the Red Sox won. The White Sox won. Why not da Bears?

One reason...the crusade of the Catholics. Da Bears will break the curse of 1st round losses but AHA will be the first to repeat since the Jags.

But to make that statement... thats pretty large.. I wont doubt they have 12 kids that may play after high school... but college! hmmmm I'd take money on that one!

Curse schmurse....... I dont, nor have I ever believed in that crap! Re: Slingers forecast
A few years ago... Anoka won the whole thing... and they played a FAVORED Holy Angels in the final. At the beginning of that year Anoka wasnt even rated in the top 20!

-The Slinger

Re: Slingers forecast
Not to be picky or anything slinger, but Anoka beat Roseville in the final. They did upset AHA, but it was in the semifinal game. And they did seem to come out of nowhere.

For those players who are aware of it, what WBL's history can do is give the other team a psychological advantage. It can put pressure on a player because they want to be the first team to break the jinx and conversely might play 'not to lose' instead of going all out because they don't want to add to the Bears' history of futility. It can give a WBL player another hurdle that a Holy Angels player doesn't have to overcome.

New Year different faces
Holy Angels ....will be restocked but loose defensive consistency. Should still be a very good team.
White bear....this years SR, Jrs have put together good consistent years at all levels throughout the years. Play hardnosed team hockey.
Burnsville...they have been biding their time. Jefferson lost too much from last year and will NOT be able to replace the offense and transition that Conelly has provide for 3 years. EP will play a solid team game but Look for Bvlle in the end at least to be on top of the Lake.
Edina..out of section 6. They return solid defense and will have a nice mix of sr,jr and sophmores. Maybe 1 year away
Cloquet...returns a strong group who were probably better than the Hounds overall last year and will be this year.

Re: New Year different faces
The year Anoka won it all was a complete upset. (im not saying the didnt deserve it!) They were not ranked all year and were playing average hockey! The jelled at the right time and won the whole thing. I wont debate that! But early on I dont think many people saw them as winning the state title! My point is that you have to play as a team! You can have the most talent in the world, but you dont have chemistry you wont win it! Just ask Moorhead or WBL!

-The Slinger

Edited by: <A HREF=http://p100.ezboard.com/bmnhs.showUserP ... slinger at: 10/27/05 1:45 pm

Re: New Year different faces
Yeah good point slinger But I watched Anoka play that season and everyone in the NWSC new that Anoka would have a shot. But they did not have that much talent. They were a tight group of kids that worked as one unit and thats what teams and fans need to understand is that its not just the one superstar on the team its the whole team workin as a unit.

Re: New Year different faces
dman... I completely agree... Hockey is so much about team chemistry... thats why what looks good on paper is not always what produces on the ice!

-The Slinger

Re: Slingers forecast
chris, anoka won over a good roseville team. they beat a favored eden prairie team in the semi's. the last time ep has had a sniff of the excel. roseville, i believe, like anoka, was off the radar most of the season. slingers correct. they gelled at the right time. what i liked about roseville was that they had team chemistry in spades. the majority of the skaters had been together since squirts. i love it. so, mr. trebil, it can be done with just a lunchbucket and a wooden stick.

And I quote, "Jefferson lost too much from last year and will NOT be able to replace the offense and transition that Conelly has provide for 3 years."
-In regards to comment heres what I have to say Jefferson has has quite possibly the best goaltending in the state with Austin Lee. Josh Levine might be the top junior player state. They also have Addyman and Roberts to round things out along with some good defenseman including the transfer coming in for Lakeville. SO my question to you iis whos going to challenge them for section 6 and why? Hmm................

Hoser:

Im not defending anyone here and you make a few valid points! I dont know if anyon has the power in 6 to take them, but they may take themselves with implosion! "I" think BJ lacks leadership along with some longshot players who have to really step up to make a run at the title. But if you look where I put them, you would see that I see them as a legit threat to contend! Though, I dont see them just walking away with it!

-The Slinger

Re: Slinger's Insight
I've been observing Slinger's insights throughout last season and his forecast for the upcoming season. First off: I will adamently disagree with his "opinion " on leadership. I guess this opinion along with a few others throughout the 04-05 season make me question his "inside" (?) knowledge before gracing us with his "opinion".

Having observed staff and player interaction, knowledge and common sense of the game not sure how truly insightful some of these opinions are. You cannot be a threat (no matter how much talent you have) without solid leadership on and off the ice.

I also see a few slanted opinions. I do, however, respect the fact that there is vast hockey knowlege. Perhaps, not always enough insight to back up some of the statements made.

Looking forward to a great season - Minnesota hockey is the best!

Edited by: <A HREF=http://p100.ezboard.com/bmnhs.showUserP ... cuda701 at: 10/27/05 9:25 pm

Cuda:

Im wondering what all of your comments mean? Your comments seemed a bit hard to understand and I guess I didnt know where you were going with them.

I dont know what you were reading, but this is what I was saying: That you can have all of the talent in the world, but if it is no chemically ballenced.. then your chances diminish in the end. Great players can take you far, chemistry takes you to the top!

As far as being slanted, my opinnion is much like most others, based on insite that I, or you might have! I try very hard to not be a fan of one team but of the game. Arguing that Im "slanted" means I lean one particular way, which I totally disagree with!

Im not here to argue, but to let people debate upon what teams they see as legitimate threats...

I would be more than happy to hear what differences you might have compared to mine!

-The Slinger

Re: Slinger's Insight
Slinger:

I was replying to the post you made prior to mine. Where was I going with them?

I was disagreeing with your "lack of leadership" comment having observed these leadership skills both on and off the ice. The "implosion" statement seems to indicate you feel that way also. I am disagreeing with that "opinion" based on what I have observed. I see integrity, knowledge of the game, common sense, discipline and dedication.

I also see a statement in your beginning post stating Jefferson has a possible shot at winning. Then...in the post replying to Hoser stating, "you don't see them walking away with it". I find this confusing.

I am also not here to argue - I was disagreeing with your opinion and stating mine. However, I did say this last season and I'll say it again....you seem to be a fan of WBL. There is certainly nothing wrong with that. They do a great job.

Re: sloppyice
Cuda:

Im not going to argue about what was said, the bottom line is any good team can "implode" if the chemistry is not right! I think BJ has the potential to be a top team, thus I put them 3rd! The debate comes, can the chemistry within their organization, with all the changes, gell enough to allow them a state championship? That is the question!

As far as my aligence to WB.. now that made me totally laugh. I would challenge you to go back and look at any post that has indicted me as a WB fan. I love the game of hockey.. and I simply call what I see.

Maybe a hint would be... go back and look at the team I would put money on!

Good Day

-The Slinger

Re: Slinger's Insight
I read your forecasts, Slinger. Also, many of your other posts throughout last season. Anyway, I don't mean to come off as argumentative....just disagreeing with a few things and stating my opinion.

Re: Slinger's Insight
Slinger, I'm gonna agree... It is all about chemistry...

Let's use last year's Moorhead team as an example...

Quality Senior players: 15
D-1 Commits: 4
NHL Draft Picks: 2
Mr. Hockey: 1

State Championships: 0

"It takes all of us doing it together to win... It takes one of us trying to do it alone to lose..."

Enough Said

What it is... It's Knight Time Baby!

Re: sloppyice
Implope is the key. That's what will happen to a team that counts on one or two players to try and win a game. It's pretty easy to defend and team that does that. Look at GR19, he is counting on the players that only play in the elite league???? What a joke. Thats why Rapids looses every year in the playoffs. East comes at you with a full team. Elk River comes at you with a full team. ECT.................

Re: Slinger's Insight
Perhaps, we are getting off the main subject, but here we go.......chemistry - yes, but not totally and I don't believe that is what was being stated. A lil' talent has to be involved. Am I wrong in say that? Nah! I think we can all agree "the hotshots" (the ones that don't play as a team) are not going to win the game. Get in the game.

My point being there has to be we can all be sideline critics, but I try to have substance and facts behind my posts or I don't add my 2 cents.

Something wasn't clicking for Moorhead at the state tourney, but I can say that every team experienced that a time or two during the season. Bottom line is these kids play their hearts out. I give them credit for that. Also, for the coaches whose time is stretched much further than practices and games.

Edited by: <A HREF=http://p100.ezboard.com/bmnhs.showUserP ... cuda701 at: 10/29/05 2:42 am

Knight time!
Knigt-

Man did that hit it right on the head!

Cuda, I will agree with knight on this one, CHEMISTRY... CHEMISTRY.... CHEMISTRY..... a dash of talent, a dash of luck, and a lot of hard work.... put that all together, and who knows?

-The Slinger

Re: Slinger's Insight
I agree chemistry has alot to do with winning. (I hope I'm not straying too much from the main topic) What does everyone think it takes for chemistry to work? I guess this reminded me of a certain group of players. Everyone knew when they were quite young that this group clicked.
