Who's not on the preseason radar that should be

Post by sloppyice »

A couple of teams that may not be getting much attention
early but could make an impact at the end

Burnsville... I finally think these boys will put it together in
a very even Lake Conference
Rosemount.. You can only be a doormat so long
Edina.. Lot of D back..the departing seniors left a strong work ethic. Probably a good mix of Sops, Jrs, Seniors
Monticello...Diddo for Rosemount
Lakeville South.. youth and enthusiasm knows few bounds
similar to the situation at Century a couple years back

The thing about Monticello is, after years of trying, they've finally got their rink. That can only mean good things for the program. That doesn't mean they're going to win their section this year, but it does mean, hopefully, they'll be competitive four or five years down the road.

At least Monticello may not have to play Moorhead in the first round of Sections. Of course they have to beat Becker / Big Lake to avoid that fate...

Some Class A

Post by 2AhockeyOldTimer »

Some class A, or rather Section 2A.

Sauk Rapids - This is the same group of guys that went to state out of a tough district 10 in Bantams a few years back. Look for a big year out of Travis Peckskamp, along with some of the seniors that have been there for awhile.

St. Cloud Cathedral - The loss of some key players (Schmidt, Rindelaub, Lies) has a lot of people doubting. They have some good kids coming up off the JV and have some solid returners in Matt Crandell and Ryan Noack. Also, Mike Schmidts little brother Nate is coming up as an 8th grader. A lot of people think he will be better than his brother.

but that is section 2A, and everyone will say DM has it all the way. I'm just throwing some other names out there.
2A

Are yo out of your mind? Lakeville SOuth should be on the radar...give me a break! Name some good players on that team for me please. Not a single one has varsity experience. I wouldnt be surprised if they didn't win a single Lake game, well maybe they will beat Kennedy.

Lakeville South

I agree, with a lot of young hard working players they might do pretty well. (better than most people think)

How about you tell us who you think is flying under the radar...or tell us why Lakeville is not. I said I think St. Cloud Cathedral is flying under the Class A radar, I am from St. Cloud. What's your point. Make a point in one of your posts, please.
2A

Look at my post on Lakeville South that will tell you why they should and are not on the radar as a team to beat. Now we arent talking football here but since someone brought it up the reason Lakeville South is in the state quarterfinals is because they have a solid quarterback in Marcus Brumm and have some players with varisty experience on their team coming into this year, whereas LS hockey does not. Sorry but I dont see them as a legitimate team to watch out for...say what you want but thats how I see it.

Who's not on the preseason radar that should be

Post by HockeyHoser09 »

As far as teams that are under the radar, I would say Rochester Century and Chaska are two teams that fall into this category.

Lakeville South, seniors or not, is in 3A, how can you say they are not a team to beat in that section? They may not and probably won't win a Lake Conference game, but with their schedule they'll be a team to beat in 3A, playing Eden Prairie, Jefferson, et.al. twice is a huge advantage over everyone else in that section. Add to that that 3A is among the worst sections in the State and Lakeville South probably should be on the radar, if not an out and out favorite to get to State.

3A Potential

Post by hattrick91 »

Disagree... are you saying St. Thomas Academy, Rochester Lourdes, Red Wing, Northfield and Richfield are all lousy teams- I don't think so. From the info I have seen and heard, these are all pretty competitive teams and most of them play AA teams during the season. Lakeville South may be pretty good but so will other teams in this section.

I think getting out of sections qualifies as a top team in the State, of course not all teams or sections are equal, but still, getting there ought to put you on the radar.

Looking at last years final page2stat ratings STA was 32, Richfield 67, Lourdes 64, Red Wing, SSP 90, & Northfield 92. Kennedy finished 2-15 in the Lake and was rated 72. Did any of these teams in 3A improve drastically? Other than Red Wing probably not, though that will all just have to be seen. However, I doubt that any of these teams are significantly better than Lakeville South either. Someone mentioned that you can't compare football to hockey in terms of success, I think in this case you can largely because of the quality of competition. Not 1 team in 3A will play anywhere near the the teams Lakeville South will on a nightly basis. I thought Lakeville South stood no chance in football, yet the won their section handily, it's early but I think the same thing might happen in hockey as well.

I would have to say Brainerd and Grand Rapids both should be solid teams with some holes to patch just like every team I think with some timely goaltending they can both be a force

3A Teams- Lakeville South

Post by hattrick91 »

Last years final ratings have nothing to do with how the teams will do this year- the ratings do not take into account the talent of the players moving up from JV, transfers or mergers. Many of these teams graduated alot of seniors and it could be that the kids stuck on JV were there only because they were juniors or underclassmen. For many of these clubs, it is essentially a new team so the past is irrelevant. Your point on competition during the season- Lakeville South- may be legitimate- STA plays Hill-Murray, Tartan and other AA teams during the season that are rated high.

Brainerd under the radar

Post by JLS 81 »

I agree with you spudmania on the Warriors. They have a proven goalie in net and some very solid defensemen and this season should expect to surprise a few 7AA clubs.
