What are some predictions for the section next year???

Re: Section 7a '06
i would say it should be the same as last year with hermantown and virginia the favorites........ might be to early to get this going, to many other things going on,but minnesota summers are short and it wont be long before all the experts come in the house

Major upset, Greenway

Greenway
Ok, Greenway will be okay but nothing spectacular.
There are gonna get maybe 2-5 goals a game, BUT the big thing is, they need a goalie that will hold/keep them in there & that is more than not likely gonna happen.

So therefore they might only have one decision to make, & go with an 8th grader, IF they want a goalie to keep them in any games.

Virginia
V is looking to be a very strong 7a contender and are my pre-season pick to win the section beating eveleth at the D.E.C.C.

7A
Virginia only has one 20 goal scorer, in Nicco Sachetti. They lost a great player in Matt Niskanen. Also gone is Devin Ceglar and Kyle Altobelli. logan Hoche is not a great goalltender. He is below average. Virginia will be in the top four, but not #1.
Hermantown should be good, along with Hibbing as there J.V. teams were very respectable.
Eveleth Gilbert M/E will be tough as they will have twelve returnees and a couple of transfers.
Watch out for Silver Bay, and Two Harbors They could be the sleepers this year.
Virginia lost alot of scoring punch. Mark Mcgillvary and Brian Villa would have to step it up just to give Virginia some kind of depth.

Re: 7A
sorry BJ40, the only team that brings back more scoring punch (returning goals on paper) in 7a is silver bay.

sounds like a rival golden bear thread to me

section 7
No doubt, those remarks about Virginia are false and will prove to be. One statement is true Nico Sacchetti was a 20 goal scorer last year as a FRESHMEN so we'll see where he ends up in that category next year and the years to come. Last year Virginia brought in 12 new starters, which brought them to a first ever state tournament apperance, and they also never lost to a team in their section the whole year. So now returning 12 starters and their starting goalie which no other team in the section has, I would have to say that putting them in the ranks of 1-4 would be pointless cuz they'll be number 1 hands down. As for Hoche, below average doesn't come in the same category as being in the top 3 in the section for GAA and Save %, which isn't bad for his 3rd year playing goalie. And also the help of Derek Peterson in nets I don't think the Blue Devils see a problem there.......

Go Blue Devils!!!!!

Re: section 7
Virginia definitely is the favorite, Hibbing and Hermantown and even Silver Bay will b tough, eveleth wont b any good. Hoche being below average??? Are u serious? hes a spectacular goalie, he had a very good year last year stepping up in all big games, for those who think that cuz of the state game, thats nothing usual for him, just one bad game and he picked the wrong time for it but he had a good year. And nico bein the only 20+ goal scorer?? No way McGillvray, Andrews, Gruesser, and maybe Joelson will all put in that many. They do play Eveleth twice and thats the game u can stack up on goals against them.

Re: section 7
Classic VHS player talk'in! Just because you came out of the weakest section last year. 2nd place this year....Hibbing or Hermantown will be at state.

Hibbing will win this battle hands down Silver Bay yes they could be the sleeper but they don't have goaltending. If the #1 Ranked Player in the State of MN Can score enough goals to bring the big silver to the big show is the question here? I don't think so
Nate Breden had 89pts that is very impressive no matter who your playing with.
Luke Taintor was right behind him with 65 total Pts. Silver bay is sunk with out Defense and a Goalie

Edited by: <A HREF=http://p074.ezboard.com/bmnhs.showUserP ... keyDogs at: 9/6/05 8:29 pm

Re: section 7
Hibbing is going to take the section this year and next year. If I understood the queation right it was for 06. Hibbing will only lose basically one player in dustin potter. EVeryone else will be back. Hibbing's team is 06' 07' could quite possibly win the state tournament. For this year, Hibbing, hermantown and virginia will be the favorties. Greenway and eveleth will not beat them. Hibbing takes the section.

section 7 06
Silver bay will have one good line, without strong defense. Last year's record was misleading because they have one of the easiest schedules in the state. Virginia will have several strong players, but will not have a strong goaltender. Hoche is a very overrated goalie. Hibbing and Hermantown will have the most depth next year and should be the contenders for the section.

Re: section 7 06
Hoche is not an overrated goalie, he is a very good goalie. As is Derek Peterson who transfered to virginia from greenway this year. Again, virginia will have 2 very good goalies rotating in nets, along with a solid core of returning players. I dont care what you think, virginia IS the front runner of 7A, no doubt.

Edited by: <A HREF=http://p074.ezboard.com/bmnhs.showUserP ... tickler at: 9/18/05 7:57 pm

Re: section 7 06
Ya, i guess he's a decent goalie. but when you let up 8 goals in one game that doesn't say much about your goaltending. hoche won't be much better next year.

yeah but when you're playing in your first state tourney, in front of thousands of people, in a huge arena, tv camaras all around you, the nerves are gonna get to you a little bit. he'll be fine this year, as will peterson and the rest of the Blue Devils.

Hoche was not tested against strong teams last year. When they got down to state and played some quality teams Hoche was shown how good of goalie he really is. Hoche will be able to keep Virginia in the easier opponents next year but will not be able to step up when it really counts like last year.

Re: virginia
I don't know this goalie...but you never know (with any athlete) what it is that will make them step it up and surprise a few people in the process. Since Hoche has now been doubted, I actually hope the kid does great this year (unless he plays against my interests... )

Hoche
For info.... Logan has only played the goalie position for 4 years. He played as a forward or D prior to that. He, up until this year, has had no formal goalie training. This summer he has been working with Rob Stauber. One would think there is room to improve based on his limited experience at the position. he and Peterson will make a great tandem in the nets for Virginia this year. What other Section 7A team has a pair like this?

great pair
too bad you can only use one at a time

good pair
From my understandings, no other team in the section other than Virginia returns a starting goalie. With the addition of Derek Peterson, there is no reason to doubt this team is the favorite in the section. For the comment on Hoche not performing in big games....

vs. Grand Rapids 45 shots 3 goals 1-3 loss

vs. Hermantown 44 shots 3 goals 5-4 win ot

vs. Hibbing 42 shots 5 goals 5-5 tie

vs. Eveleth 28 shots 2 goals 2-2 tie

section championship 26 shots 3 goals

Go Blue Devils!!

Re: good pair
Aha! Thanks Oldtime.....someone who recognizes it is NOT the goals against average that tells all with goaltending....nor is it the win (saying that will make a few people crazy) Save % is more accurate when studying numbers for goaltenders. Looks like Hoche was pretty busy in the games you cite.

Again, I don't know Hoche nor do I recall ever seeing him play, but wonder how Hoche would do with the same defense playing in front of him as Ellingson has in Cloquet or Austin Lee for Bloomington? We won't ever know....but you get my point.
