I would love to go, but will be in Little Falls to watch the girls. On the boys side, this game could go either way, but I will say Alex takes it 4-3.

As much as I would like to make the trek to Brainerd for this one, I will be unable to.

I think this one will be a tough one for the Cardinals, but hope they find a way to bring a W back with them.

Quick question as I just noticed this.... How is the Central Lakes Conference standings/champion determined? I see Alexandria plays everyone twice (14 games), but Brainerd only has 9 Central Lakes games on the schedule. I guess I am making the assumption that win percentage is what determines the conference champion, but just want to make sure.

Just looked deeper and Alex is the only CLC team to play everyone once.

Alexandria 14 games
Brainerd 9 games
Sartell 13 games
Fergus 12 games
St Cloud 11 games
River Lakes 13 games
Willmar 10 games
Sauk Rapids 12 games

Just curious as this is a pretty big conference game for both teams.

I'd assume the CLC is similar to how the Big 9 does it with the Rochester teams only playing some Big 9 opponents once for 4 points, instead of two games for two points a piece.

Yeah, that’s the basic idea. If you look at the archived CLC standings from recent years, it appears that games are worth one point in the standings when the teams meet twice, and two points if there is only one game between them.

There are actually quite a few conferences with unbalanced schedules for one or more teams that are significantly stronger than others. Examples include the Suburban East (STA, HM, and Mahtomedi), Mariucci (Moorhead), and Wright County (HF).

Pretty even contest but Alex up 3-1 going into the third. Shots 19-11 in favor of Brainerd. But it seems like pretty even zone time for both teams.

Brainerd was buzzing most of the third period but couldn't score. Most shots the Alex goalie was able to square up. Brainerd needed to get him moving side to side but really didn't. Didn't help the goal was knocked off half a dozen times or more but there weren't many rebound chances. Alex goalie had a very good game. Then Strong scores the fourth goal on some sloppy defense play. Strong was literally the only Cardinal pressuring in the Brainerd end while his linemates were heading to the bench. Gets a loose puck and scores on a deflected flutterer past the goalie.

Looking at the score sheet, obviously Brainerd had a lot of chances and it could have gone either way. I feel the EGF game for Alex is the anomaly on their resume. With the goaltending and depth they can compete with anyone.

I agree with that point. EGF is obviously outstanding and has embarrassed a few other good teams, but that was also Alex’s third game that week after close contests against Cathedral and St. Cloud.
