It'll go somewhat quiet for the next month or so before anything becomes more official, any significant rumors of players who are expected to be facing a decision?

Forwards Logan Anderson and Jacob Jeannette leaving East for the USHL. Reported by Rick Weegman in the DNT today. East hadn't suffered from the early departure virus in a while.

Yeah, on the surface, it appears they will struggle to score goals. Clearly they just lost their 2 best returning players. Andover AGAIN is favored to break the TC Metro 7AA cursenorthwoods oldtimer wrote: ↑Fri Aug 16, 2019 8:04 amWOW!! that's big losses at East. Re: Early Departures 2019-2020
ER clearly choked in 2015 (2017 too for that matter) But your team hasn’t WON a State Title in going on 22 years, so I wouldn’t get to haughty

When hasn’t he a rabbit up his sleeve? He seems, year in and year out, to be successful with what he has....without a doubt there are programs who lose kids and fall in disarray, often for years. East, Hill-Murray, Edina, Blaine, and Eden Prairie....to name some...seem immune to this, at least long term.east hockey wrote: ↑Fri Aug 16, 2019 11:37 amYeah, on the surface, it appears they will struggle to score goals. Re: Early Departures 2019-2020
I dont know about East this year. I know Mike does some amazing work getting his kids up for the tournament, but East has barely slid past Andover these past two years, and they do not have the returning firepower that they had last year. If those leaving had stayed, it would still be a tough fight to get through Andover. I just dont see it happening this year, which is sad because I always enjoy seeing them go down to the X. I don't know that it has been mentioned. Austen Humphrey was the 3rd overall draft pick by the St. Cloud (nee Brookings) Blizzard and will most likely not play for Elk River this winter.
Do we know for sure that Flammang & Laylin are returning to St. Michael/Albertville? I don't think I saw them on rosters for the Elite League.

I believe Laylin is doing before and after with the Magicians. I'd assume Flammang is doing the same.O-townClown wrote: ↑Tue Aug 20, 2019 8:56 am I don't know that it has been mentioned. Very doubtful that either Michaelis or Humphrey are with the Elks this winter.

Blu ,wonder why Michaelis didn’t say no to Elite League roster spot in late July ,or has he done so since?

I think he can play elite league in Fall then go on to his USHL team?
EL just says can’t do both in Fall

Muck , I think hsel likes them to do one or the other . Last time someone played a full elite season then left for juniors right afterwards was an unnamed kid from Bville. Left a bad taste in a lot of people’s mouths since Hsel is ostensibly designed to keep kids in Hs

Re: Early Departures 2019-2020
It'll definitely be an adventure of a season at East, with basically one returning skater who played varsity the entire season last year. There isn't much in the way of can't-miss D-I talent here, and while the program depth will keep them respectable, these youth teams weren't remarkable either (even at younger levels when they were intact...though JV did have a very strong year last season). That guy for that thing wrote: ↑Mon Aug 19, 2019 7:11 amI dont know about East this year. That said, I do think Mike does some of his best work when he sometimes doesn't have his biggest collections of front-end talent (and related expectations and egos). This season will test that to the max. The section is somewhat forgiving, too...Rapids is on the rise but we'll see just how far, Cloquet will be good but Langenbrunner leaving is a far bigger blow than Jeannette or Anderson, and Andover is great but has to win a game at Amsoil. A title defense isn't out of the question quite yet.
Re: Early Departures 2019-2020
There are lots of research showing how a student leaving high school a semester early to participate in spring practice shows more harm than good. Phillip Nelson may be the poster child of this in Minnesota high school football. When you get to hockey most of the “research” comes from USA hockey which is administratively biased against the MSHSL. And of course biased to their leagues.
As for Duluth East, one year is not a trend. Nor is two or even three. Playing I. St Paul in March is far better than playing a NH3HL, or for the most part in NAHL team.
