Re: AA Goalie Leaders Thru Feb 1
I would love to see these separated by A and AA.
Then I would love to see PageStat run each of the top 10 through a SOS calculation. I'm of the opinion that some goalies have strong stats because of the quality of the teams (and shots) they face. It will take some effort because each goalie needs their individual games input (not just SOS) but that would be a start. Some of these starter goalies don't play against the weak opponents so their partners get the games where they could really pick up saves and shutouts. The teams that play A vs AA should yield an interesting result as well. Credit should be given to goalies that face top teams/offenses/shooters game after game with no softballs.

This is all very true and has been discussed on almost an annual basis on this board. While it can be fun to look at save %, it probably isn't worth getting caught up in as it doesn't account for team strength, style of play, quality of scoring chances faced, how many cocktails the shot counter had at the safety meeting, are the shots entered correctly in the Hub, and we could go on and on.HockeyCrazy1970 wrote: ↑Sun Feb 02, 2020 11:42 pm I would love to see these separated by A and AA.

I believe these are separated by A/AA as this is a AA list.HockeyCrazy1970 wrote: ↑Sun Feb 02, 2020 11:42 pm I would love to see these separated by A and AA.

Looking at the list, I don't see anyone who hasn't played some pretty good competition over the season save maybe 1-2. How do you take into account other factors as well such as the defensive efficiency of the team in front of them. Use last season as an example. Use Edina as comp 1. They play an extremely challenging schedule. Then look at Marshall as comp 2. They play a pretty soft schedule by comparison. Do you downgrade a top end guy like Caspers? He didn't roll into any games with Vorkicky, Boltman or Reiners, et al in front of him. Do you downgrade Hogg since he had superior talent in front of him? Tough ones to answer. ITP adds some other variables that are so true also. As always, goalie evaluation is still more art than science. Part of what makes it fun.
