Announcers for State
Any idea who will be the broadcasters this year?
Re: Announcers for State
Assuming the steady crew, as before last years celebration turned faux pas.
Re: Announcers for State
No, just referencing the McLeod kerfuffle.

The best part about hockey is not having to listen to Dave Lee

Used an expression that is taboo and immediately was replaced. Has caught up a few broadcasters.
Be kind. Rewind.

He used to word LYNCH, or some form of it in a joking manner. As usual, some idiots thought it was racist and he got canned. Webster dictionary mentions nothing at all about the word being a racist word. Not a new thing. Kelly Tilghman didn’t lose her job over it, but the editor of GOLFWEEK did for his cover story trying to draw attention to the issue in hopes of starting a constructive conversation. This was more than 10 years ago. Yeah, a hired broadcaster should know you can’t use that imagery.

I'd say it's pretty easy to avoid talking about lynchings during a high school hockey broadcast.

My hunch is that it was a pre-emptive strike, a move to get ahead of any controversy by a savvy media organization.northwoods oldtimer wrote: ↑Fri Feb 28, 2020 6:52 pmYup got the ol hook from the "TRIGGERED'S"jdh wrote: ↑Fri Feb 28, 2020 5:28 pmHe used to word LYNCH, or some form of it in a joking manner. No kidding. I'm sure some of the old timers on this bored thought he was a quality broadcaster, but man did I cringe listening to Gopher FSN broadcasts in recent years with him calling games. Many times, in our house, we would look at each other and question whether we were getting the video to what he was calling. his nightly use of the term "metallergy" or whatever, for whenever someone hit a pipe... did anyone ever tell him that was clever, wth? So many instances I'm still trying to black out of his voice, after thinking why the heck FSN couldn't find anyone better to call those games. Did he work for peanuts? Had to have been.TheNightman wrote: ↑Sat Feb 29, 2020 12:51 am I'd say it's pretty easy to avoid talking about lynchings during a high school hockey broadcast.

No one compares to Steve Cannon doing Gopher games on the radio back in the day . “Number 16 passes to number 7, number 7 passes to number 11, number 11 shoots and scores”

Clymer is also terrible. Hopefully Mark Parrish won’t be calling A games this year, at least Orono didn’t make it, if he is calling games.
Re: Announcers for State
I actually liked Parish. I'm sure there are others I'd like as well..GopherHockey wrote: ↑Mon Mar 02, 2020 11:16 am Clymer is also terrible. Hopefully Mark Parrish won’t be calling A games this year, at least Orono didn’t make it, if he is calling games.

Re: Announcers for State
The reason why "lynch" intimates something racial for many people is because, oh I don't know. black people used to be FREAKING LYNCHED in the not too distant past. Also when was the last time you heard anyone use the expression in which it didn't refer to that evil practice?
Even if it's using it wasn't racist in nature (I doubt McCloud intended it as such) the act of lynching anyone in any form isn't the kind of imagery you want to project during a sports broadcast.
If anyone is a snowflake it's those that think, "Dammit I miss the good 'ol days when you could joke about lynching folks and now I can't speak my mind". Effing brilliant.
