Exiled One’s early departure list to juniors or another non Mshsl team has averaged about 20 kids per year in the last few years. By the time we get to start of high school team practice in November, what will this year’s count be?

Rosters are very full at Junior A level, they will all be staying.

No, but there are teams with 35 plus kids, why would you leave to go and hardly play. They will need to get all 35 kids in that means not playing for week at a time if not longer.

I'm just pulling your chain, I agree that with several Jr teams going dark this year that there is a trickle down impact throughout all levels T1-T3.
I also believe that 18 games with no state tournament is not a good solution, that's 1/2 of a SQ season and probably not what most HS players are looking for, thus there will be other private options that spring up and what they look like and when they will occur will come out shortly.

I would put in somewhere in the 15 to 25 range. The high end players will always be able to find a spot. Issue is with several teams in the USHL and NAHL going dark for the year, it took away a lot of spots. Plus you have the issue of no canadiens (unless they have dual citizenship) playing in the U.S. right now.
One other thing, there is no guarantee you won't see a couple more junior teams go dark during the season.

Moosepaw is correct. Also, a number of the Canadian Tier II leagues are really struggling with a decision to play at all due to the restrictions on fans in buildings, along with the fact that there is also talk of forcing teams to take two buses on every trip to ensure proper distancing, as well as only allowing two players per hotel room vs 4. All of which will obviously double their travel costs. Look for at least one or two leagues to announce complete canceling of seasons in the next month or so.
The NAHL is also struggling to deal with attendance restrictions. Lot's of teams still considering not actually playing this season.
