St. Cloud is pretty much locked into #4.

#1 should be Roseau. Rogers is hard to decide as they have not played any section games.
Moorhead has not proven themselves to be anything but #3. But beat Roseau earlier.

4 to 8 is easy - pick one out of a hat.

If Roseau wins either of those then I think they are obvious #1 seed, but if they drop both of those games, which would be understandable, then it becomes much more debatable?

Give me Moorhead at #2. Benefit of the doubt has to go to the team that has played section games in my opinion. Rogers putting up 10 on Alex last night is impressive but I am not sure that they have done enough to earn the 2 with no benchmark against the rest of the section (Bemidji is maybe the 8 seed and they beat Alex as well). Who is their best win? Probably Blaine back on January 16? They have only beat one other team that is over .500 and that was Alex last night (which was an impressive score I will admit). Maybe 7-7 Elk River after that? The rest of their wins consists of Champlain, Coon Rapids, Spring Lake Park, AC Wings (2X), and Osseo(2X). And some of those wins are "bad" wins. A one goal game with Osseo and two one goal games with AC? I am not saying they aren't good enough to beat some of the other top seeds but I don't see how they have done enough to jump Moorhead or Roseau. Honestly I think if they get the 2 seed Moorhead and even STMA look at Roger's schedule and think we could have done that. They're obviously a threat but young and a little inconsistent.

One other note on QRF. I hear a lot people ask why GR plays Hermantown when it hurts their QRF just because they are a class A school. Both Roseau and Moorhead run into this a bit as well because both play Warroad and EGF every year. Roseau maybe the most as they play a combined 5 games with Warroad and EGF this year. Hard to compare where those teams would sit with the Elk River, Centennial, Andover, Blaine, etc of the world but I would venture to say they would be in the mix. The limited exposure they have to AA teams has been reasonably good. Warroad just about beat GR last week and we know both have some high end players. Panzer and Parker outscored any player from the 7AA Elite League team (note that Jack Peart was in Fargo). Long story short I would say the following (Subject to change if there any surprise results).

4. STMA
5. St Cloud
6. Brainerd
7. Bemidji
8. Buffalo

And of course Bemidji could argue they just throttled Brainerd 5 to 2. and lost to St Loud twice in OT.

But St Cloud will not want to se Bemidji in a QF game.

No I was just commenting on it because it was in the thread.

And that is a nice win for them Elliot and proves there is little separate between teams in that area of the seedlings (or the whole section for that matter). But Brainerd has a win and a tie with St Cloud and a win over Bemidji earlier in the year. I wouldn’t be upset if there was shuffling around in that area but that’s how I see it now.

Rogers has four losses...to Maple Grove (who is 14-0), Andover (13-2, both losses are to Maple Grove), Centennial (10-3-1, lost to MG twice and Andover, tied Totino Grace) and Totino Grace. Would Roseau or Moorhead have beaten any of those teams? Maybe Totino. Both likely would have lost just as badly or more so to MG and Andover. Regardless of where Rogers is seeded, I wouldn’t be surprised at all if they win 8AA. I might even call them the favorite. Unfortunately, whoever wins this section will be unseeded in tourney and get pasted in quarterfinal.

Roseau also has 4 losses. Three of which were when they were down their top 2 goaltenders and none of them really that bad. Their wins are also better. As far as schedule difficulty I’ll say 2 games versus Rapids is equal to Maple Grove and Andover (2 games with number 3 vs a game with number 1 and number 7ish). After that give me Roseau’s schedule (Moorhead’s is far tougher than both). Roseau beat Centennial last year and it took a last minute goal by Kukonenen(this was before he was hurt) for Maple Grove to beat Roseau 3-2. All three of those teams returned the bulk of their rosters I believe. So sorry if I am not buying that Roseau(or Moorhead) couldn’t compete. Especially with Centennial or Totino. I’m not saying Rogers isn’t in the mix for the section championship. They definitely are. All of their losses are to good teams but they did give up 6+ in every one of those losses. So not sure what to think I guess but if I was a coach I’d hesitate to put them in the 1 or 2 spot without a single section game.

I’d be perfectly fine with Roseau getting #1 seed in 8AA. But no way Moorhead should be #2 over Rogers given Moorhead’s .500 record and loss to STMA. I hope you are right on Roseau as I always pull for them given their willingness to play in AA and their history and hockey culture. I don’t see them having the depth to compete in tourney with a team like Maple Grove—who is on another planet compared to last year with their group being a year older—but best way to prove me wrong is for Roseau to get to tourney and show it.

Whatever team Rogers played this year that was better than average they lost too. It isn’t there fault, they had no say in their schedule but outside of their 4 losses they’ve played nobody.
