It was certainly a more eventful game in the first meeting. One of East's more structurally sound defensive efforts (no doubt aided by Pierce's absence), and had Hermantown fairly well contained outside of a PPG and had it 1-1 midway through the second. Then, all in one sequence, Hermantown went in on the rush (offside, according to informants watching the telecast) and Plante fed Lund for the second goal. Out of the corner of my eye, I saw East's Nelson and Plante go crashing into the boards. Plante struggled to skate off the ice, and after some deliberation, the refs awarded a 5-minute major. Ty Hanson (who had an excellent night) scored on the major, and it was a fairly sleepy affair after that. East benched both Nelson after the major and Cole Christian for the 3rd, meaning their top two scorers weren't out there for any sort of comeback attempt. I learned long ago not to try too hard to read Mike Randolph's mind.

Re the goal and Plante injury: there was no way to tell if it offside from the telecast. The puck was obscured by the boards. Hit was cheap shot on Plante by DE player. Charging, late, boarding,from behind. Ref didn't even make call initially. Should've been a game misconduct based on other calls ive seen this season. DE did play them better this game and once Plante was out HT looked a bit out of sync at times. PP definitely wasn't as good.
