Interesting that with realignment 5AA has 9 teams but if Coon Rapids and Spring Lake Park did Co-Op no additional movement of teams (outside preposed 5AA) would be required to move forward.

I checked the Rapids part of your posting with a referree friend of mine. Not true, guy was expressing his anger toward a ref about a call during the game. He's still on board.ironranger2 wrote: ↑Wed Apr 07, 2021 12:21 pm Not a head coaching opening, but heard that one of the Rapids assistants was let go by the school administration the day after the Andover game for actions that occurred after the game. Anyone from Rapids that can confirm this? I had originally heard it was just a Rapids parent involved.
Hearing multiple things on the Virginia coaching position, but the Hermantown Covid issue may have sealed the deal. Eveleth had to quarantine as well from the game on that Saturday and there are questions on how much the Virginia coaching staff knew and when they knew it. Obviously, the player in question knew he was either sick when he played against Eveleth or the day or two after, so why was he playing against Hermantown. Not sure how much stock I put into it, but the latest rumor is that it was payback for Kilen leaving Virginia to go to Hermantown last year.
Also have heard that Rock Ridge (Virginia/Eveleth) school district is looking into combining the remaining "separated" sports this fall due to budgetary issues.

Some of the Section 1 teams added - but the big one today is Section 6AA - Andrew Sackrison of St. Louis Park has resigned after 3 years as Head Coach and 6 years in the program.
Re: 2021-22 Coaching Openings
How much does compensation weigh in to these departures? Yes, I know some are performance based issues and others are tired of the stress and placating everybody. But when you look at other states, and their h.s. premier sports, coaches are compensated 10-30 times what the standard rate is in Minnesota. Yes, I also realize the youth associations and STP programs can supplement their income, but I've always found it strange, especially as it is now a more common practice for the coach not to be full-time teachers.

Massive gap
Austin — this may be one of, if not THE least desirable jobs in the state.

Not much grey area with this coach. Either you love him, or you don't.Usthockey13 wrote: ↑Wed Apr 14, 2021 12:13 pm
Heard the parents were behind this one and were trying to run him out of town.

I'd say that in general it's much more slanted to the "you don't" side. Most fans in all sports regardless of level (youth, HS, college, pro, etc.) think their HC is a buffoon a large % of the time and that it could be done much better. Not an easy gig.
Re: 2021-22 Coaching Openings
If it were not for Covid the Rochester schools would have been seeded #6,8 and 9 out of 9 in 1AA this year. Ness did a great job at John Marshall. JM has zero chance in 1AA as it is now.
Fornwald stepping down at Albert Lea surprises me a bit as they are always competitive and he is a good coach. Faribault surprises me less as that youth program is in disarray. West is a shocker to me, he has overachieved year after year in my opinion. Being in 1A means every year is a crapshoot.
I feel bad for Austin, a program that actually made the AA state tournament. The history there with one coach that ruined an up and coming program. Really sad on a number of levels. Who would play hockey there anymore? My kids wouldn’t, and I am a hockey guy.

Fornwald dug his own hole he couldn’t get out of — after a verbal altercation in Austin, where he was held back from going across the scorer’s table into the Austin bench by his back up goalie, he was indefinitely suspended and didn’t coach the last month or so of the season.goldy313 wrote: ↑Fri Apr 16, 2021 12:32 am If it were not for Covid the Rochester schools would have been seeded #6,8 and 9 out of 9 in 1AA this year.
