Godspeed RH "Bob" Peters

Post by BSUBeaver »

I know he didn't coach in the high school ranks in Minnesota, but a lot of his players have gone on to have an impact on the Minnesota Hockey scene. And the stories he could tell, wow. As someone who didn't know a lot about hockey until I attended BSU, he sure did help me develop my current love for the game.

Edit: He did coach one year, 1960-61 at East Grand Forks

A great coach but an even better man.

I grew up in Intl Falls.
Bob was from Fort Frances Ontario, just across the Rainy River.

When I started at Bemidji State Bob was already a local hero and on his way to be a legend.
I had not been on campus three weeks when ‘coach’ walked up to me and said
Mark (he knew my name), I am Bob Peters a friend of your Dads,
You probably don’t remember but I am Bob Peters.

And it wasn’t me, he was like that with everyone.

He was a gift.

He was a true legend and gentleman of the game of hockey. His impact and sphere of influence on our game cannot be measured.

Thanks for sharing and what a wonderful life to celebrate.

I attended his summer hockey camp one week in about 1979. One evening he took the Fort Francis kids to show them around town and stop at the DQ. A man who remembers his roots is a good man in my book.

For those that may be interested:

A great "Huddle at the Tavern" show put on last night by the Beaver Radio Network honoring RH "Bob" Peters! Give it a listen if you can.  The first hour is RH stories.
