Section 7A Playoffs Championship Game (3/2/2022)
#2 seed Duluth Denfeld (19-8-0) vs #1 seed Hermantown (25-2-0) @ Amsoil Arena, Duluth, MN
This is the matchup most would have predicted in 7A at the start of the year. Duluth Denfeld will get its third shot at Hermantown in the 7A Title game and it will be the last shot they have for some time most likely. When these two teams met back in early January the Hawks were missing Zam Plante and the Hunters jumped out 1-0 however, Max Plante scored a mere 20 seconds later and the Hawks would go out to dominate Denfeld the rest of the way. For the Hunters they need a lot to go right in this one first key is the health of Simon Davidson if he is out there depth takes a severe hit they will need to play outstanding defense and withstand the waves of pressure and onslaught like Greenway did and stay in the game when they took the giant to OT in 2018 and then took them out in 2019. It's a big ask and this might be the best bunch of Hawks we have seen. Their depth is outstanding and their team speed is just so much for a Class A team to handle. This one appears to be favoring Hermantown by around 3 to 4 goals but we will have to see how it plays out on the ice.

Section 7A Finals Notes & Tidbits
Same Old Routine
Forgive the Hawks if they didn't seem too excited about punching a ticket to the Section final but that trend has become the norm as they are like the Moorhead of Class A and have now reached the Section Final 14 straight years. The last time they lost in a Section Semifinal was way back in the 2008 5A Playoffs to St Cloud Cathedral.
Third time's a charm?
Duluth Denfeld is making consecutive Section final appearances of their own as they will try to take Hermantown down for the third straight year. The Hunters have not been to state since 1989 and this will be their last hope of any such trip for the next few years at least.

Don’t think the Hunters have the defense to shut down the Hawks or the firepower to keep up. Will need some luck and Hermantown focusing on the State tournament to make it a game.

What pisses me off is why are your top players on the ice and getting points at 10-0? No respect and a slap in the face to Denfeld if you ask me.
They’re kids NOT PROFESSIONALS
It’s just a game!

Just a shame this is allowed and that the people of Hermantown actually enjoy this. They’ve beaten all the top AA teams this year except Cretin who is #1. Lost 4-2 but outshot Cretin 26-20.
In the section 7A tournament they’ve beaten…
North Shore 13-0 shots 77-12
Greenway 6-0 shots 52-13
Denfeld 11-0 shots 44-17
Combined that 30-0 in goals scored and shots are at 173-42!!
They’re going to go to state and will do the same thing in the first two rounds. 7 or 8 goals and 9,000 shots to 5. Should be so much fun to watch. Class A hockey is a joke

Re: Who wins? Duluth Denfeld vs Hermantown - Section 7A Championship
Watched the game last night. Two thoughts. First, as mentioned many times previous, my opinion is Hermantown should have opted up 10 years ago. I continue to have that opinion. Second, I actually thought Andrews did about as much as he could with the players. He mixed up the top line most of the second period and their ice time was significantly less. He started them up 9-0 in the 3rd and they scored. They did not see the ice again. I can buy the argument that they should not have seen that last shift. I remember seeing a box score from a warroad game earlier this year where they were up 13-0 and their two studs scored another with 2-3 minutes left in the game. Don’t recall anyone posting an issue with that. Anyway. Just my thoughts.
