Jefferson 14, St Paul Johnson 0

My records only go back to the 1997-98 season, but I can find no bigger Jefferson win nor Johnson loss during that time.

Seems like yesterday they were at state pushing Moorhead to the brink in the AA semis

Pffft

It is hard to admit but we are old!

In the past month John Marshall had a 45th (?) anniversary of their state championship. I went as these were my idols. They are less than 10 years older than me. ironically I work with one the “kids” on that team.

Word on the local street is John Marshall will no longer be a program next year.
Eveleth, Southwest, Johnson, John Marshall, Jefferson, Burnsville South Saint Paul, etc. the march of once proud programs to where they are now hurts a lot of us high school hockey fans.

It is hard to jump on the Rogers or St. Michael band wagon.

I must be getting old. That was Mayo pushing Moorhead into OT in the semis. Moorhead beat Johnson in the quarterfinals.

The numbers on the east side (city and close suburbs) are unfortunately terrible. I grew up playing for Tartan. Last year, at youth level, Tartan combined with Johnson, Como and North St. Paul to form “East Metro Stars.” At high school level, Tartan combined with North St. Paul this year, and they are very weak. I could see these programs all combining at high school level very soon, and potentially others in St. Paul (Highland, etc) joining them eventually, too. While it’s sad, hockey in MN has always been dominated by programs with long traditions (think Edina, northern MN powers, etc) and the fast-growing upper middle class suburbs of the era (think Burnsville in ‘80s, Jefferson in early ‘90s, then Eden Prairie, now Maple Grove, etc).

I'll take it. "Every day above ground it a good day". Had to throw a Scarface reference in there

I wouldn't admit that on here, Lee.
Happy New Year.
