2023 Section Seedings
Almost all of them have been posted, I'll update when I see more.
Only one major surprised that I noticed - Blake getting the #1 in 6AA over Edina. Apparently the 1-0 win by Blake over Edina (SOG: Edina 36, Blake 11) was the deciding factor instead of body of work throughout the season. This means Edina gets BSM in round two, while Blake gets Wayzata.

Re: 2023 Section Seedings
It's absolute nonsense that 6AA has only 6 teams and 7AA has 9. A team should have to win the same number of games to get to State at AA, no matter the section.
I vehemently disagree with the A / AA structure for girls' hockey, but if it does exist, the MSHSL has to set up the brackets so each Section has 8 teams. That should be a baseline requirement, every year.

Re: 2023 Section Seedings
Currently there are 61 AA and 50 A teams. I'd prefer they cut off AA at 48 teams, 6 per section and put the remaining 63 schools in class A. Let the New Prague, Armstrong, Hopkins, Princeton, Sartell, etc. smaller schools play in class A where they belong and avoid 15-0 games in the quarterfinals of sections each year.
Re: 2023 Section Seedings
I always say, you have to beat the best teams to win it all anyway. So if you are good enough to win it all, you don't have to worry about ducking teams.Eagles93 wrote: ↑Sun Feb 05, 2023 2:36 pm Almost all of them have been posted, I'll update when I see more.

Re: 2023 Section Seedings
It's not a good sign that Minnesota is down to 111 teams. It seems about 8-10 years ago there were about 120 and my hypotheticals would discuss a 128-team bracket.Eagles93 wrote: ↑Sun Feb 05, 2023 4:24 pm Currently there are 61 AA and 50 A teams. I think the best approach would be to scrap Sections completely. Set up a 64 team AA season, then seed the teams 1-64 for postseason. Have the first three games at home venues (just like Hill-Murray) and then play the final three rounds at the X.

Re: 2023 Section Seedings
Edina gets totally hosed. Not a big Hornet fan, but what's right is right. They have 19 wins vs 14 wins. They beat Tonka (shut them out) Yes Yes tonka didn't have 5 players but still. Yes Blake beat them, but that won't happen again. Clearly the section saw a small tiny crack and chose to exploit it. Much tougher road for Edina now. However, they still get a first round bye...which is insane.
Re: 2023 Section Seedings
There's an easy way to fix things like this. Use a computer to set the seedings instead of a phone call.girlshockey4ever wrote: ↑Mon Feb 06, 2023 9:15 am Edina gets totally hosed. Re: 2023 Section Seedings
Witnessed all 3 teams (including BSM) this season against my Raiders. Blake's top 2 players are borderline unstoppable...whoever wins the Edina/BSM semi will have to make a conscious effort to hold them back. Do not be shocked if BSM comes out of this section - they are crazy talented (but young) and will be a real force next season.
Re: 2023 Section Seedings
Right, it is odd. Even if Rogers upsets Maple Grove tonight, there's no way that Maple Grove isn't the #1 seed. Rogers has recently lost to section foes Champlin Park/Coon Rapids, Centennial/SLP, North Wright County, and to Maple Grove at the beginning of January. Their section record is 2-4-1, whereas the other teams above them have equal to or above 500 records. Rogers is locked into the #5 seed no matter what, and similarly, MG is locked into #1.cjmhockey19 wrote: ↑Sun Feb 05, 2023 7:00 pmMaybe because of the Maple Grove/Rogers game Monday night...but yea very odd

Borderline unstoppable? Except for Gentry, Andover, MG, HF, Centennial, Stillwater, Rogers, Andover, NWC, Orono and Gentry. I mean if you don't look at those 11 loses, then yes they are unstoppable! hahaPhunnsieMcHockeyDad wrote: ↑Mon Feb 06, 2023 9:48 am Witnessed all 3 teams (including BSM) this season against my Raiders. Re: 2023 Section Seedings
As predicted, Maple Grove is the #1 seed in 5AA, Rogers is the #5 seed. Interesting that Champlin/Coon Rapids was slightly snubbed for the #3 seed? That went to North Wright County. It appears that was based upon NWC's recent tie versus Edina, and an early OT win over Champin/Coon Rapids? NWC did seem to have a harder schedule, with games against HM, Orono, BSM, Tonka (twice), Edina (twice), Blake, Maple Grove, and Centennial/SLP (went 1-7-2 in those games. Champlin/Coon Rapids had Centennial/SLP, Proc/Herm, Maple Grove, Andover, and Tonka (2-4-0).InThePipes wrote: ↑Mon Feb 06, 2023 11:42 amLace'emUp wrote: ↑Mon Feb 06, 2023 11:40 amRight, it is odd. Re: 2023 Section Seedings
I saw a thing from YHH that HM was the #1 going into playoffs. I found that strange seeing as how they lost to Tonka. Then they went out and lost 5-2 tonight to BSM. I'd say they should be no higher than 4.
Re: 2023 Section Seedings
On a night that saw six quarterfinal games go to running time, heck of an instant classic between Blaine and Anoka. Six overtimes with a ton of back and forth action. Anoka thought they scored with less than a minute left in the first OT and celebrated the win only to have the goal waved off after a lengthy discussion. Blaine was all over Anoka in the second OT. Anoka with a slapper off the post early in the third OT. Blaine whiffed on a point blank wide open shot from the slot, a great save on a two on one by Anoka goalie, and a too many player penalty by Blaine in the fourth OT. You could tell exhaustion was really kicking in in the fifth OT with the long change. Anoka must have had lots of oranges and Red Bulls during the resurface as they came out with a lot more energy in the sixth OT but Blaine gets a shot through from the point for the 2-1 win.
Both goalies were fantastic with over 140 combined shots on goal, especially Anoka goalie with 89 saves.
I hope these girls are excused from first hour tomorrow!

Re: 2023 Section Seedings
Any score midway through on the Edina/Benilde game?
Re: 2023 Section Seedings
5-1 Edina in the third. Guess all the crying about seeding really wasn't a big deal. Thought Benilde would bring better.
Re: 2023 Section Seedings
Crying? It was wrong and still is wrong even if they took care of BSM. Who do you think will be more well rested in less than two days? Blake after an 8-0 light scrimmage against Armstrong/Cooper or Edina after a very physical penalty fest against BSM?
Re: 2023 Section Seedings
They have two days to rest and they are high school kids. Please. They better be ready because the tourney is 3 days in a row. Just beat whomever they put in front of you. I have no doubt Edina has the horses to win another title. Just keep winning.
Re: 2023 Section Seedings
All 6 goals in the game were on the PP. Stay out of the box Blake, Edina's PP is on fire.

Re: 2023 Section Seedings
23 Penalties in a section final game between two top 15 teams? Give me a break. That is insane. I didn't watch it, but that many penalties are not called in boys game. 6 body checking penalties? It's not the same girls game from 10 years ago. Girls are bigger faster stronger. Could you imagine if these officials did a game between Tonka and Andover? That championship game last year was basically full on hitting!
