Section 3A Championship (3/1/23)
#1 seed New Ulm (23-3-1) vs #2 seed Luverne (20-6-1)

These two long time Big South Conference rivals will meet in the Section 3A Final. New Ulm has been dominant vs Big South Opponents for a long time now as it has been two years since the Eagles have lost to a Big South team. They were able to sweep the series during the regular season but both games were close. New Ulm winning 2-1 and 3-1 as Eagles goaltender Junior Bryer Hoffmann has been very tough for the Cards to solve.
Luverne comes in red hot as they are now (16-2-0) in their last 18 games this year. They have avenged losses to both Albert Lea and Dodge County later in the year and will look to do the same vs long time rival New Ulm. Senior Brock Behrend is coming in with a very hot stick as he has 5 goals and 7 points so far in the playoffs leading a very dangerous Luverne offensive attack.
Can New Ulm get the three game sweep over Luverne or will the Cards get their revenge and head to the X representing 3A?

Blake Soukup, a senior forward, intercepted an errant breakout pass just inside the blue line and skated in alone on Mankato West goaltender Mason Schreiber, firing a high shot into the upper right corner to put New Ulm ahead 4-1. The goal was Soukup’s 12th of the season. He also had two assists to bump his season point total to 35, fourth most for New Ulm (23-3-1).
Soukup, who has been battling a shoulder injury all season, spent the rest of the game on the bench after scoring his goal. New Ulm played without forward Nick Zins, a 14-goal scorer out who was out with an injury.
New Ulm could be missing 2/3 of one of their top two line for the 3A Final. Soukup's goal gave the Eagles the 4-1 lead but he was out of the game after that and New Ulm missing two top forwards hung on for dear life to win 4-3. If both Soukup & Zins are out for New Ulm on Wednesday could really shift the advantage to Luverne,

Have not seen any stream or even radio options for this one...
Anyone have any? Curious if New Ulm will be missing two key forwards or if they play... Should be a good hockey game at GAC!

KNUJ out of New Ulm should be broadcasting the game on the radio, they had the Monday night game. You might need the Tunein app (it's free) to get the game.

Congrats to Luverne making it back to state!
They are likely to be matched up with Warroad/EGF or Hermantown in the first round, I suspect. I hope they can make it competitive!

They have been competitive in the other two trips to state.
2014 Pushed Hermantown in an exciting game for a fan to watch
2017 took the defending , and soon to be back back, State Champs Hemantown to OT
Will they get Hermantown for a 3rd straight time this year?

That is a good point. I think that if they get Hermantown, they have a good chance of keeping it close. I have a more difficult time seeing them keeping it close with Warroad; that top line is ridiculous. That being said, as a SW MN guy myself, I hope I'm wrong and they go all the way!
