As I've admitted here before, I am the dumbest guy I know. But I'm scratching my head over this one.
Bring Me The News has an article about (are you sitting down?) a parent berating and abusing a referee. Unfortunately, old news there. But by reading the article, one could infer that Lourdes, and St. Cloud Cathedral, had a dog in this fight. Why would Lourdes Hockey (through it's Twitter account) comment on this, if they did not have a team at this tournament, which took place in MedTown. I can the same for St Cloud Cathedral. Of course they could just be chiming in on the sad state of affairs of bad parents mouthing off to refs. But that seems a bit odd.
Separate but related, this past summer I did see a story about a youth baseball league out east that is now requiring these yahoos to umpire a few games as punishment for acting like junior is in the World Serious. Sounds like a good plan for me. Brainard hockey could do that with this clown. And if he can't skate, all the better. Put in a zebra shirt to ref an in house game or three, and the parents can make sure he knows exactly which calls he blew.

Re: Private Pee Wee Teams???
I was at this tournament--the annual kickoff to the start of the season (YHH Big Pumpkin). I was not at this game to personally witness this, this was not the pinnacle of ridiculousness that occurred with this team (Brainerd). Two adults were escorted out of the rink late that night in cuffs by Rochester's finest for fighting. Keep in mind, Brainerd actually won that game and yet those a$$hats of parents thought it was a good idea to continue on their drunken tirade in an attempt to beat their chests. Unfortunately, nearly every game I attended had several borderline or clearly out of control parents---whether it was screaming at the refs about how little their know the game, telling their kid to retaliate against another player "TAKE HIM OUT JOHNNY!!", or just having no filter and dropping profanities at every chance they get. As for Lourdes' involvement, technically, they are part of Rochester so they were in fact there and hosting the tournament.East Side Pioneer Guy wrote: ↑Mon Oct 30, 2023 6:19 am As I've admitted here before, I am the dumbest guy I know. All in all it was a well run and fun tournament for the kids IMO.

Could you be more specific about the extent of Lourdes formal involvement? I know that Lourdes in in Rochester, but not every institution in MedTown has a formal connection to this, or so I'd guess.
You mentioned that it was well run, and if there were as many poorly behaving parents as you say there were, to me that would mean there were a lot of adults who were directed to leave the building. Is that the case?
I neglected to provide a link to the article. https://bringmethenews.com/minnesota-ne ... tournament

Does Lourdes not get a bulk of their kids from the Rochester YHA? My view is that they have skin in the game for simply being in Rochester and their kids and or families being associated with the YHA.East Side Pioneer Guy wrote: ↑Mon Oct 30, 2023 4:26 pm Could you be more specific about the extent of Lourdes formal involvement? By well run, I am referring to scheduling, facilities, organization, making it fun for the kids, etc. You cannot expect parents to be constantly policed during a youth event, but if and when something like this happens, you can only hope that something is done. Brainerd YHA has taken action against this parent and in the other incident (not sure if 100% related, but the timeline lines up), police were on site quickly and things were handled.
As for parents screaming filth and just being all out dbags, you can only hope people around them and in the same association can steer them in the right direction. But we all know the “safety” meetings don’t address that.

I didn't suggest Lourdes doesn't have skin in the game. I'm just curious if they had a formal association with the operation of the tournament; those are two separate questions. For what it's worth, I would find it a bit odd if the Mayo or Century high school team Twitter accounts made any comment on this. But I'm all for naming and shaming clowns like this.
Policing yahoos at youth athletic events is a matter for the other adults in the room, the officials, the organizations the yahoos are associated with, and the tournament officials. Tournament officials can't be everywhere, they need to rely on other parties to pipe up when necessary.
