The A state tournament might lack the depth and there tends to be more 1st round blowouts than AA, but no one can deny that there are 2 or more teams in the A tournament each year that could be in the AA tournament and have good showings. The hockey landscape has changed a lot in a decade, teams are improving all across the state
We've got 7 yes we do, we've got 7, how about you!

Yes that is what makes this tourney more exciting as there could be possibly 3 solid games on Wednesday. Again, have to see the teams in match ups but it's possible. Regardless, I have heard from many that say the action in Friday & Saturday Afternoon session has outperformed those in the evening sessions on those days from time to time in recent years. That comment would have never been made 10 years ago so the Class A game is growing.

Now let's get the Rams in A and add to the growing fun! :D

Roseau is headed to single A but as of today at Bantams, peewees and Squirts; East Grand, Warroad and Thief River Falls are ahead of them.

Roseau is really going to drop down to Class A in the cycle after next year?

That's the feedback I am getting. They are playing single A at bantams and peewees and are struggling.
Low numbers.
Squirt A's are middle of the pack in district 16 which is mostly single A teams.

Wow. Sad to hear low number for such a proud program. Something I will keep my ears open for as we get closer to the end of next year and teams can drop dow. Thanks for the insight elliott.

Population of Roseau is less than 3000, Roseau county is about 15,000.
About 2000 people in Warroad.
Small place, small programs.
What those two communities have down with such small population is outstanding.

I love the guys at YHH because of their commitment to the game and the passion they have for it. BUT. the question I put in bold is one they can never answer. I understand being bullish on Mahtomedi because of their record, and some of the losses they've had. But, even after losing to STA last night 8-1 AND dropping their 9-1 drubbing to Hill, they still absolutely deserve their spot in the rankings. You could make an argument to put Orono, Delano, or Northfield above them, but as you've pointed out several times, Mahtomedi beat Orono. Yes they lost a close one to Delano, but Delano also lost to Orono. And a 3-17 Chaska team. And had one goal games against Breck and Minneapolis.

So then you look at Northfield, with their 15-2-2 record. They also convincingly lost to Orono. And tied Spring Lake Park and Osseo. And then they rack up wins against teams in the mighty Big 9 conference. What it comes down to for me is this - If Mahtomedi played the same schedule that Orono, Delano, or Northfield had, then they would have a better record, and people wouldn't question their spot in the rankings.

Are confusing the terms "bearish" and "bulllish"?

But who am I to question you? Most people here find my comments bull #@%&.

Wow, I tossed a bomb through the window (no surprise there) and walked away, and forgot to check back to see the damage I've wrought.

So I could have been more clear that I was indicting Class A in general, and not the Zephyrs. (I do feel some TRMC loyalty.) From the little I know of Class A, the Zephs are rightly ranked #5. And that's what I see as the problem.

Now last season Hill was about .500, but that was due to a series of illnesses among the players. They weren't fully healthy until near the end of the season. It was a black swan event, and no one was advocating for Hill to grab the #5 seed. This year, Hill's record is indicative of their talent level.

As far a quality A teams, it's fun for everyone here to slap up Hermantown. And if they had been in AA last year and this year, they'd maybe have two Section 7AA trophies and competitive at the X. Here's my latest bomb to throw: Why does Warroad not get grief for hanging around in A? Oh yeah, they are the darlings, and any criticism of them is most assuredly not Politically Correct. They'd certainly slice through the 8AA field, and wouldn't they make the AA field more intriguing? So let's flip Roseau and Warroad, ditch that Polaris snowmobile for a nice Marvin bay window! Even a semifinal, much less as final, between this Warroad team and any of the 3 west suburban silver spoon princesses would be epic.

Not on that take thats a good discussion point. I just didn't like the shot at the Class A tourney should be at homesites cause of record because record are deceiving and dont equal less drama or a bad team especially in A where teams play much different SOS. The Warroad take is an interesting one but happy they are in Class A and have given fans some great games to watch over the last 3 years but prior to that they missed thr tourney for 10 straight years so it hasn't been like a dominant run they go through groups like many in Class A.
