What's the point?
I know this was somewhat discussed on a separate thread (games from 1-10),
but I feel it needs its own thread. EP skating Pezon and her scoring a
goal up 13 goals in a game with less than 2 minutes left is embarrassing.
Impressive how they destroyed Kennedy, which supplied them 2 of their
stars, and humiliated them. This kind of coaching is shameful.

I rather agree. Here's the biggest question:
Who's going to do anything about it and what should be done?
I guess its up to EP's coaches or even their athletic department to decide if their girls hockey team's current "reputation" is anything to be concerned about. It'll probably fade away come playoff time. In the mean time, I wish they'd dress a 4th line in the easier games.

Re: EP
SE,

for at least the last 3-4 years this team or coaches have had absolutely zero class. it has been very noticeable in individuals on and off the ice, it has sickened me more than once.

i hope something is done because the whole program from my point of view has a black eye and it is reflecting on them all which isn't neccessarily the case.

that's the last i'll comment on this topic for this program...

Re: EP
How do you people know there was even a 4th line to dress? Kennedy has no JV so they may not have even been there. They could have been playing somewhere else, I really don't know and niether do any of you.

I don't think EP is not all to blame here either, it's the Lake Conference that forced them to play Kennedy twice this year and Jefferson only once. Do you think EP wanted 2 games with Kennedy? The Lake has an unbalanced schedule and teams have been playing Rosemount only once just for this reason. We see the same thing in the Classic Suburban so now the better teams play Tartan only once.

Hubba,

I don't need to know who you are, but I do respect your knowledge and understanding. I think sometimes perception and reality don't line-up. At least for me they don't. I also think we can both figure some things out without meeting, but sharing some thoughts via the "inbox"... Either way... cool... My "inbox" works...

I know you have touched on different issues on this board, but just touched which I respect. I won't disscuss those things in an open forum, but I would in a lets say in a "Inbox"... We probably know who each other is and that's okay... I'm sure I've seen you at games if you watch SSP as much as I think you do.

Hockeyhead

EP
EP is the largest high school in the state. The EP youth program is among the largest in the state. There are enough high school aged girls who play hockey that EP has a U19 team. So I would assume the girls high school program actually cuts players. This is common for boys programs but not for girls.

My point is: I have no doubt EP could skate a 4th line if they chose to. Obviously the choice is to have the first line playing at the end of the 3rd period in blowouts.

I am not a coach and I don't know if there is a solution to any of this.

I am certain that the EP coaching staff is dealing with issues unfamiliar to any other school in the history of HS girls hockey. Their program has more depth than SSP ever had.

I'm not sure how listing examples of classless behavior would be constructive in any way. Perhaps we should let it lie.

Re: What's the point?
You already have 2 examples as someone brought back the prior threas the last time EP humiliated Kennedy in Nov and now this example. Dont need many more examples of classless behavior than that.

Re: EP
This talk about EP reminds me of an unusual incident our U14 girls team had a couple years ago at the EP rink. We only had nine skaters on our team, so as part of our warm-up, we would have the girls pass the puck to themselves by passing the puck against the boards. These were not hard passes; soft passes just to get the feel of giving and receiving passes. We were told by the referees that they would assess our team a two minute "unsportsman penalty" if we continued. We thought they were kidding; but they were serious about it. Never heard of such a rule.

Re: EP
Lots of talk about what EP should have done v Kennedy. I would be interested in hearing from players, and coaches who have been on the losing end of blow-outs. What exactly would they have liked their opponents to do when the score got out of hand. Options: sit players; pass and not shoot; play keep away; Don't do anything different, etc. Tough situation for both teams.

Re: Sister Act
hockeygal,

My question was directed specifically to hubba based on his post about classless acts on and off the ice, over a period of 3-4 years that sickened him. That's pretty strong stuff that goes beyond what normally would be felt by disagreeing about running up the score. My question has nothing to do with the two KHS games this year.

Re: What's the point?
I referenced the thread (come-on) to show that this issue has been covered before, not to point out the score of the first game. I think there were some good comments made by coaches in that thread. In going back I see that Morris and the EP program were attacked then as well. We are still waiting to hear what they have done that is so classless, certainly running up the score a few times can't be the big black eye.

Re: EP
hubba,

Your silence is deafening. There are few places in society where broad allegations can be made with no requirements to back them up. Obviously, this forum is one of them. I was asking only that you account for your strong words, clearly it's your right not to and I'll respect that and ask no more.

This dialog was started because of a one-sided score of a hockey game. I understand perfectly the emotions brought on by this score, I was there and felt many myself. However, if the score of a hockey game can motivate someone to talk about HS kids and their program and their coaches as classless to the point of being sickening, something, to me, is out of wack.

I understand that the word sickening, as used, is subjective and everyone has their own tolerance level. Most people, however, reserve that level of indignation to sex boat parties, drunk driving, etc. I don't doubt you've seen things from kids or coaches you didn't like, but haven't we all in our experiences with youth and HS sports? We have, but most of us keep our angst in perspective because kids do dumb things and adults make mistakes and do things they regret.

This forum is used by many good people for many good reasons. It's alright to disagree, it's alright to discuss things that don't sit well with us, but when its done without respect and perspective....remember kids read this stuff too.

Re: EP
facman,

you sound like an intelligent person but i can think of almost anywhere in society where broad allegations are brought up without any substantial evidence to back it up. but that really doesn't matter in this case. what does matter is that some things are best left unsaid and that is where i will leave you and others. i suggest the whole topic is dropped as i have done.

Re: EP
Anybody have any positive things to say about the EP program? Does anyone have anything to say about the players, coaches, or parents?

I do: I know one of the EP coaches... He is a stand up guy to say the least. All my contact with this EP coach has been positive. Actually every time I have encountered him this year he has never talked about his program unless I ask. Going further when asked about his program he usually plays things down and talks about how some of the scores of their games don't match up with how close the game was played. He gives his team credit and talks about how hard his players are working and the things they have done outside of hockey. We all saw the Let's Play Hockey cover where the EP Program adopted soldiers in Iraq. This coach can also be found at National Development Camps donating his time and energy for the advancement of Girls Hockey not only in EP but across the state.

Hubba: Next time you see this coach I challenge you to go up and talk with him. You'll then know what I know! You'll see a coach that has no ego, no malice, and is down right humble. You’ll find out from him that it’s about the players, not him and that he is coaching for the right reason!

Hockeyhead

Edited by: <A HREF=http://p100.ezboard.com/bmnhs.showUserP ... keyhead at: 1/13/06 9:57 am

Re: Sister Act
hubba,

I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree, but that's ok. Most of the time it's reasonable to expect a more specific explanation when broad allegations are thrown out. You're probably right to not want to discuss them here. IMO you can't, however, have it both ways.
If this is not the place to discuss them, or if you don't want to discuss them, don't bring them up. Especially in such a strongly worded way.

There, I'm done.
