Hill 3-1 after two, BSM bus being warmed up. 18 shots for Hill in the second period. This BSM squad could do some damage in section play.

Hill 4

Final
Impressed by Benilde. They were fast and aggressive. Hill had the better of the game, but I thought they played a really good game.

Benilde played Hill pretty well and gave them fits at times. Hanggi played really well for HM tonight as well. I like piling up the solid wins though.BlueLineSpecial wrote: ↑Tue Jan 21, 2025 9:08 pm Hill 4

It was a solid win. But when Hill was up 3-1 in the third, I was looking for the dagger. That's when a championship team delivers the back breaker. Because at the end of the day, we will need to get past Moorhead or STA, if not both. That game should have been locked down, not 3-2 going into the last minute. Good enough is not good enough at the Fuse Box in March.Sparlimb wrote: ↑Tue Jan 21, 2025 10:54 pmBenilde played Hill pretty well and gave them fits at times. Also, we did not get a PP goal against GR or BSM. Again, we'll need to make STA and Moorhead pay for those mistakes if we hope to make it a successful Drive for Five.

Such a tough critic, ESPG!
Benilde played a really good game. They were fast, faster than I expected them to be. And really aggressive in attacking the puck. There was a Hill powerplay, I think in the 3rd period, where I forgot they had a man advantage because Benilde was pestering them so much. Hill couldn't get set up in Benilde's zone at all. If Benilde plays like that, and seemingly the way they have been generally playing lately, it wouldn't surprise me in the least bit to see them win 6AA. They can absolutely beat Wayzata and Edina if they play like last night. They recently lost to the consensus #1 Moorhead, and realistically that was a 1 goal loss with an empty netter. Point is, Benilde played both Moorhead and Hill very tough recently. Red Knights are on the rise IMO

Re: Games Tuesday 1-21-25
Good points, Blue. The BSM loss to Moorhead fell off my radar. And I also was surprised how good they are offensively. They were quick, moved the puck well, and intercepted quite a few Hill passes. I was surprised they only had 10 SOG through the second period. The thought of them getting past Edina and Wazata crossed my mind as well. From the BSM perspective, this is the year to win that section.
Still I'd have liked to seen the game locked down. I'm not sure why Pauly kept the goalie in until just a minute left. An extra attacker with their speed could be lethal. As it was they didn't bring a ton of pressure the last 90 seconds or so.

Re: Games Tuesday 1-21-25
I agree. The expectations are high this year, and as such I think there's a desire to show they can put borderline top 10 teams away in a little more emphatic fashion. There was a breakaway Hill had, maybe in the late second or early third, that they didn't score on. If they punch that home, it's 4-1 and probably over.East Side Pioneer Guy wrote: ↑Wed Jan 22, 2025 12:25 pm

On to Stillwater. Saturday is a huge game. Hill wins, they are a lock for the #1 seed in 4AA and have a fairly easy path to the section final. Hill loses, and they may well be the #2 seed with a far more difficult path.

They don't have any bad losses, in the sense they lost to an inferior team. Per the Hub:East Side Pioneer Guy wrote: ↑Wed Jan 22, 2025 12:25 pm The thought of them getting past Edina and Wazata crossed my mind as well. From the BSM perspective, this is the year to win that section.
L 2-4 Edina. BSM was up 2-1 after two, outshot them 30-21 and gave up an empty netter for the 2-goal difference
L 2-3 Wayzata. BSM outshot them 35-16
L 3-8 Stillwater. This was their worst loss. It was 4-3 Stillwater going into the 3rd and the Ponies dropped 4 on them in a dominant period
L 3-5 Moorhead. It was tied more than halfway thru the 3rd period. Moorhead got an empty netter for the 2-goal difference
L 2-4 Hill. Empty netter for the 2-goal difference
Have beat MG, Shakopee (by 4), EP, Holy Family (by 3). They are rounding into a really good team and will be curious to see if they can bust through a softer-than-usual 6AA

Re: Games Tuesday 1-21-25
And I'd argue the only team that has put itself above the rest of the competition this year is Moorhead. It would be somewhat shocking if they didn't play the late game at state on Saturday night. And I'm saying that thinking Bemidji has a real shot in sections. Hill has 6 pick'em games left (Stillwater, Edina twice, Rogers, STA and Moorhead), I'd be happy to go 4-2 in those. Nothing would surprise me though.BlueLineSpecial wrote: ↑Wed Jan 22, 2025 1:06 pmThey don't have any bad losses, in the sense they lost to an inferior team. And if you look at that Stillwater box score, they killed for almost 9.5 minutes. Took a 5 and a 2 right after the 5 expired and gave up 2 PPG in that span.BlueLineSpecial wrote: ↑Wed Jan 22, 2025 1:06 pmThey don't have any bad losses, in the sense they lost to an inferior team. Yes, right now it's hard to not pencil the Spuds in for the final. It's also easy to see a Friday evening session with the current top 3 ranked teams. But based on experience, I'd bet agin' the top 3 all making it to the semis.
A HM/BSM and GR/Rogers Friday evening will take the shine off things for some folks. But I'll deal with it.
