Fun games on a Saturday. I'll take:

Shakopee over Rosemount
STA over Maple Grove
Cloquet over Roseau
Blaine over Centennial
Bemidji over Elk River
Benilde over Grand Rapids
Cretin over Stillwater
HM over Rogers (although no result will surprise me)
Edina over Wayzata

Wow.

Maple Grove with three 3rd period goals and lead STA 6-3 down in IGH. The STA stream doesn't let me rewind to watch any of it.

And as I type, STA scores to make it 6-4. 6 minutes left...

Maple Grove 7-4 empty netter at the end. SIG STA
29-24.
Maple Grove was the hungrier team today. Outplayed STA in the 3rd period.

Crimson get an empty netter to win 7-4.

Stillwater playing with CDH but as they like to do, are down two goals early.
2-0 CDH late in 1st...

Shakopee laying it on Rosemount again 5-2 late in the game.

If Cretin holds on here against Stillwater, I would make a strong case for them getting the #1 seed in 3AA over STA...

Maybe. STA beat CDH earlier in the year, and never trailed. That will weigh heavy in 3AA seeding.

Guess Stillwater got an early first period goal. The stream from Cretin's rink sucks and there is no scoreboard you can see and no announcers.

2-1 CDH early in 2nd.

Stillwater inks two goals in the second period to take a 3-2 over CDH after 2.

Grand Rapids has a goal wiped off the board on a real questionable call (goalie interference but was shoved into the goalie by a defensive player) and then has a ring around the back boards pop right out in front of Casey and BSM buries. So 3-2 BSM with 9 minutes left.

Stillwater adds an ENG to win 4-2. These two teams are extremely even and a pick'em if they were to meet again.

Hill really took it to Rogers in the first period tonight. 2-0 HM after 1. Shots 22-9 and that's with Rogers having two power plays. That all said, Rogers got their legs the last 5 minutes of the period and started to generate some chances.

That pesky net keeps coming off.
Agree Roger’s first 5 minutes was brutal.
The 2nd Hill Goal was a good goal. The Keystone Kops routine by the officials was pretty good.

3-1 HM after 2. Much more even period. HM took another couple penalties but Rogers goal on a shorty...

Wayzata up 1-0 early on Edina.

4-3 win for Hill-Murray. Rogers scored two goals in the last couple minutes, one on a 5 on 3 pp and one with the goalie pulled.

Obviously a big win for HM, but they need to quit parading to the penalty box. That could have easily done them in tonight.

Rogers has now lost two games in a row and needs to put some momentum together again. They are the heavy favorite in 5AA, but Maple Grove is showing signs of life.

Wayzata up 2-1 o Edina with 2 minutes left in the second.

Couple of thoughts. Hill outplayed Rogers for long stretches and were the better team - but the penalties need to stop. Just unnecessary and blunts momentum. The Rogers shorty was actually a delayed penalty breakaway - a Hill player tackled a Rogers player and they still scored. Hill also missed some opportunities. A pipe in the 2nd, a breakaway by Sampair when they were 2-men down that was stopped, and Zasada missed an empty netter that nicked the corner of the goal. Hill needs to learn to put teams away.

Lastly, a Rogers player was injured in the 2nd and was in street clothes for the 3rd and may have been wearing a sling. I think he hurt his shoulder on a check. Not sure who it was - I couldn't see from my vantage point at Aldrich. Could be bad news going into sections. Rogers fans were not happy seeing that but I didn't catch the name of the player.

4-4 tie at Braemar in one of the strangest games I’ve ever seen. Down 4-1, Edina scores THREE GOALS with under two minutes left to send the game to overtime. They dominated overtime, but couldn’t find the winner.

Saw some stuff straight out of the 80s late in this one: Mason West loaded up a clapper from a stand still on the power play for… some reason and in OT Pellinger executed a game saving flying pokecheck, ending up at the top of the circle.

Importantly, Wayzata likely gets the top seed and Edina likely the 2. Keep in mind, they’ve been the 2 seed the last three years and qualified every time, so maybe they’re right where they want to be.

Uh uh uh, are you telling us that section seeding is not head to head? We're using the transitive property now?

Ah well, it doesn't matter which is 1 and which is 2 between Cre-TINE and STA, does it? And we all know the coaches will give great weight to Spar's final East Side Rankings, which many of us consider to be the power behind the throne.

It was after either the Tonka or BSM games that I'd said that Hill needs to start delivering the back breaker in the 3rd period, and I was admonished for not appreciating a solid win. But now I see I'm getting some support for the idea. Well, it's been said Pioneers take all the arrows.

Rogers has a very nice squad there. It was the best west metro contingent at Aldrich this season, so that was nice to see. They move the puck up the ice nicely, and the PP is very impressive. On the PP, they pass it around very quickly, moving it from side to side and back, keeping a forward low to the side of the net, I knew if Hill kept giving them power plays, they'd cash in. And it didn't take long on the 5 on 3, The last goal was also a man advantage situation due to pulling the goalie.

Hill was the better team, but didn't lock it down. The first penalty that led to the 5 on 3 was pretty bogus. The player was on his rear, and picked up the puck with his hand, moving it from his left to his right. Playing the puck with your hand is typically a minor infraction like an off sides. Then some scuffling at the other end of the rink (that I was one) led to 2 more Hill penalties and one for Rogers.

It would be nice to see Sampair bury it on a breakaway once in a while. He always gets his shot off, but there isn't all that much drama. If he's scored on a breakaway this season, I haven't seen it, and it hasn't happened much.

Rogers made Hanggi work as hard as I've seen him work all season. In the first he made a couple of great saves, doing the splits to get a toe on the puck on wrap arounds, the second one he absolutely robbed Rogers. I can see Rogers making it to the final, and I can see them falling in the section final or the state quarter final.
