Another tourney!

Post by ChrisK »

With all due respect to our Class A friends, the tourney really starts for me today. We've got more snow today than we've had in awhile, so much like the State Fair begins in the summer and ends in the fall, the tourney will begin in winter and end in spring. I'll be in my usual seat in section 120 after stumbling over from the Bar Formerly Known As the Liffey where I've enjoyed the annual Tourney Bloody Mary. Thursday has gotten less crazy as I've aged and have lost touch with folks from the Board who I used to celebrate this day with (Elliot's still out there somewhere though!). Others have died, I just want to give my condolences to West Metro's family and friends, there's a guy who knew his high school hockey! I'll be cheering for Moorhead this time around, hoping they can end the crazy streak (although tbh, there's something kind of, I don't, know noble? quixotic? about making it that many times and not winning). Best of luck to all the teams and hope y'all have a good time and another great tourney!

Our Thursday starts with breakfast at the North Pole in Newport and then dinner and drinks at Herbie’s between sessions.

I felt underwhelmed by the Class A QF games yesterday and hoping for some more exciting games today to make up for it.

The 2nd game in both sessions should be good

I think Andover might make a game of it. They don’t get blown out much. Goalie story is good too. Both teams.

Another underwhelming QF game... As noted the next game should be an actual good game

Shakopee-STA should be good. Be ready for another snoozer with Moorhead-Lakeville South then the Edina-Rogers game should be another good close one. I could see OT in both the 1:00 and 8:00 games.

I'd agree. One epic game is all I really need today

Can we move the 2/7 and 1/8 games to the second half of the sessions? Easier to get into McGoverns, or to leave early at night. Most years these games will not be very good.

I have a ticket in Sec 105, Row 24 tonight. Now I’ll know who to tell to pipe down if you guys get too rowdy.

Well there are no beer sales at MSHSL events. Although I've been told that liquor can be brought in inside of a non-metallic container.

And speaking of liquor, the knuckle heads in section 2-whatever were a non-factor yesterday. I hope a bunch of Hill, Cre-TINE, and Benilde kids show up tonight for a rousing chorus of "PRI-vate SCHOO-uhls!!!"

Enjoy the tickets and I'll be back in those seats Saturday evening.

Thanks again! Picked up a Class A ticket to make a day out of it. My first tourney trip here post-Covid; I’ve missed the live atmosphere.

You can't beat it. TV is more convenient but much more fun watching hockey in person. Tried to catch you before the second session last night Elliott but only confused a bunch of old guys who are now wondering who the heck Elliott is. Will try to swing by again tonight, probably in between games. And it turns out I'm actually in row 108, middle of row 20, which will probably be Cake City again tonight.

My only annoyance was with the class A semi session. I had an aisle seat and I swear I had to get up for the same guy and his kids like 10-15 times during the game. They couldn’t sit in their seats for more than 5-10 minutes at a time. If you’re going to camp out at the concession stand, why not just sit up at the rail?
