Good point SpeadOut! Too many teams have left AA lost count Waconia is for sure Class A that was approved on appeal last week

There is only 63 teams left in AA (If Irondale also got approved for A still have no confirmed that)

If someone has to move into Section 1AA, the Pioneers will take one for the team. We'd have no problem heading down Hwy 52 for a final. And then y'all wouldn't be whining about a home ice section final.

Yeah, but then 7AA is REALLY weak. It does make sense to have both sections have 8 teams though.

It does make 7AA weaker if move Andover but it would be just like 1AA I wouldn’t see much difference between the two

Working on an offseason project that has me looking into program histories. Paging Duluth area hockey minds: Why is Marshall in AA? They were a consistent threat to make state in class A. They have never made it past the semis in 7AA. A couple decent seasons lately but nothing to write home about. Are they putting more of an emphasis on hockey?

Got sent a new one today...

Austin will be AA and fill up 1AA with 8 teams. The Packers have an enrollment of 1159 up over 100 kids from 2 years ago and they co-opt with both Pacelli High School & Southland High School whose enrollments cut 1/2 equal out to bump them over the line.

Austin will be in AA next year which put 1AA back at 8 teams with no additions needed.

This has now been confirmed with team.

Austin is in 1AA next year

AA back to 64 teams you could now make 8 even numbered 8 team sections again in AA

There's gotta be a better system. They were a 7 seed in 1A and lost to Waseca 8-0 in sections

Agree team had record year won 17 games last year for some actual program momentum ... They won 10 games combined in the previous 5 years!

Now they have to go AA because their co-opt puts them over the line by around 50 kids... Yet MPLS, Highland Park, Osseo, Tartan, St Louis Park, Waconia etc are allowed into A... Huh? Disappointing for Austin and for AA of any hope of added a tougher team to 1AA is gone now.

Makes absolutely zero sense. Austin has a 52.5% non-white enrollment and 60% of its students are economically disadvantaged. Again, compare this to Minneapolis Southwest High School—where most of the kids on the Minneapolis High School co-op team go to school: in addition to having a larger enrollment than Austin, just 36.3% of Southwest’s students are non-white and even less, 29%, are economically disadvantaged. And the youth programs? Minneapolis had 7 bantam teams and 8 peewee teams this past season (again, most of the youth hockey players in Minneapolis live within the Southwest attendance boundaries). Austin had just one bantam team (a B team) and three peewee teams. MY. GOD. Is the MSHSL president or someone else high up with the organization a Southwest grad or something? This makes no sense at all.

I just want to know how they managed to put Rogers *and* Buffalo in that section but not Maple Grove, not that that would’ve been much better. There should not be a possibility let alone a very good chance of top ten teams playing the the section quarterfinal.

It sure seems like the MSHSL is packing the metro sections to ensure two northern MN teams make the AA state tourney every year. Problem is this new 7AA—without Hermantown, who continues to refuse to make the jump even through they’ve played AA at youth level for years now—doesn’t produce a state-tourney quality team most years, just like 1AA.
