Yes. Crowley (along with a couple other kids I believe) transferred to Tonka, adding to an already potent lineup for Tonka’s Peewee AA team. They won state last weekend. According to Gamesheet, in the 25 games posted on the app, Crowley had 22 goals and 34 assistants (56 points) in those 25 games.

Sylvia, for ChaskaChan, had 11 goals and 23 assists (34 points) in 37 games posted on the Gamesheet app.
I should note Tonka beat Osseo Maple Grove for the Peewee AA state championship in OT. OMG also had three transfers on their team—two from STMA and one from Blaine (it’s widely known these kids got addresses within the OMG boundaries but don’t actually live at those addresses; they still attend school back home and their parents openly admit they don’t live where they say they do). They were recruited to play for OMG this season by Derek Peltier, OMG’s Peewee AA coach, and Rich Dean, OMG’s peewee director, whose kid is the star player on the OMG team. All three of these kids play for SDP AAA team coached by Peltier and owned by Dean.

Like I said, the transfer culture has spread down to youth hockey in MN and will only get worse as absolutely nobody—including Minnesota Hockey—will lift a finger to do anything about it, despite numerous complaints.

SpreadOut! wrote: Sat Mar 22, 2025 4:36 pm I think EP is a sinking ship and the powers that be in the program are bitter about it and looking to blame someone, so they are taking it out on Twigs.

The dads of the two best peewee players in EP going into the season—Mike Crowley and Mike Sylvia (who played for Boston University when Crowley played for U of M)—pulled their kids from EP, with Crowley “transferring” to Tonka and Sylvia to Chaska Chanhassen.

The numbers and thus talent at EP are heading south fast. There is zero loyalty anymore in hockey, and some of the biggest name people in MN hockey (like Crowley) are among the least loyal.

The “transfer” culture that has taken hold in MN high school hockey has spread to the youth game. Soon, there will be less than like 5 youth programs and high schools who will be able to win an AA championship in a given year. The select few haves are getting richer, and everyone else is becoming a have not.
Since you brought them up, let’s chat about that. The older Crowley transferred out of EP after his junior year going to HF, who eventually lost to EP in sections. It can be spun in many different ways, but it’s clear they felt he wasn’t getting the opportunities they felt he should. Looking at stats after his year at HF and it doesn’t really justify that argument. Keep in mind that group won State as PWs. Some stayed, some left but it’s safe to say that group had tons of potential and yet didn’t end up being a State worthy team at the HS level. Not discrediting them at all here. They all had above average to good seasons in a loaded section.

The Sylvia’s have always lived in Chan and waived in to EP. The oldest chose to jump ship and play at Chan and the younger ones choosing to play in CCHA just made sense.

Let’s get this straight. The driving factor in both cases were it was believed the remaining PW team in EP wasn’t going to be great. No goalie, no real great kids moving up so they bailed. The choice was have your kid go 10-40 or go 48-2. Sure there may have been some issues of not seeing eye to eye but this was purely a winning vs losing choice.

From what I can see, EP has its issues of course. There is or was talent there. Combined with being an association with lower numbers, the opportunity for spots, better than average schools and it’s always going to be a possible destination for kids.

I don’t know what it was with Twigs. Character cannot be debated. But there seem to be folks who felt game time decisions and prep were lacking. I hope they get what they want. The current AD has had his hands full for sure.

Did the Crowleys actually move out of EP into Tonka boundaries, or was this one of yet another “we got an address” situations? Didn’t know that about Sylvia. Why did he previously wave into EP from ChaskaChan? Shopping his options? Again, all of this transferring and waving into places for YOUTH hockey is beyond ridiculous. Crazy idea: play where you live.

Can’t comment on that. They had to do the same when the older transferred to HF.

Why play in EP vs CCHA? Because the teams in EP were better. They were coaching at HF so that was probably the plan until Westrum decided to go into the Edina bench and get canned. Parents these days don’t seem to want their kids dealing with adversity. They’d rather have them win all the time vs play through it. Another ridiculous claim I often hear is parents moving their kid because they don’t want them playing down as that then disqualifies them from trying out for CCM HP as if there’s any development in that.

Parents are ruining everything.

Yep. But he gets away with all the crap he does with OMG “because his kid is really good.”

Apparently, that’s literally ALL that matters.

That’s the catch 22. You want to keep the supposedly good players. But with that comes these totally insane egomaniac parents.

EP definitely trying to promote for the job.

Will be interesting who ends up getting it. Definitely a name mega school, but there does seem to be some potential barriers to the job.

Seems to be a lot of speculation on things without actual firsthand factual knowledge.

Carry on.

If that’s the case maybe Sats and Jeff need to lace up the skates again. Harder to be part of the solution than it is contributing to the problem.
