A Rankings for 12/28/25

Post by ClassAGuy »

There were not many games this past week and the rankings did not move too much. Now we head into Holiday Tourney Week with some great games on tap! Week #6 Class A Rankings below:

1. Hermantown (10-0-2)
Past Week Results: W 4-2 #8 Cloquet/Esko/Carlton, W 7-3 #3 Delano, W 3-2 White Bear Lake
Upcoming Schedule: 1/3 vs Eden Prairie
The Hawks just continue to go about their business and prove they are the top team in Class A. They were able to get three more wins this week, though the opening win over 7A Cloquet/Esko/Carlton shows the gap in 7A is razor-thin. They then thumped #3 Delano, who tied Hibbing the next day, and finished with a nice win over big school White Bear Lake to remain unbeaten heading into 2026. Now this week they will host a dangerous Eden Prairie, who have been all over the map with results so far this winter, but they have some great skill nonetheless.

2. Hibbing/Chisholm (10-1-1)
Past Week Results: W 7-2 Gentry Academy, T 3-3 OT #3 Delano
Upcoming Schedule: 1/2 vs Wayzata
Hibbing started the week in stride as they easily dispatched a decent Gentry Academy team. However, they did not have the same fortune in their big #2 vs #3 matchup against Delano. The Bluejackets came out of the gate a bit slow and found themselves trailing early on. They did battle back into the game, and it was a very good contest, but something tells me this group is capable of even more. For now, they will head back into action this week vs an always tough well coached Wayzata crew.

3. Delano (8-3-1)
Past Week Results: W 8-0 Litchfield/Dassel-Cokato, L 3-7 #1 Hermantown, T 3-3 OT #2 Hibbing Chisholm
Upcoming Schedule: 1/3 vs #10 Breck
Delano hit the road over the Christmas break this past week. They started the journey by blowing out a decent Litchfield/Dassel-Cokato with ease. They did not have the same luck vs Hermantown, though, as they fell behind early and were never able to get into the game, suffering their first Class A loss. They did solidify their number three ranking the following day, as they played Hibbing to a tie, and overall, it was a good week. Now they return home for an important Top Ten matchup vs Breck with section seeding on the line.

4. Warroad (8-2-0)
Past Week Results: Idle
Upcoming Schedule: 12/29 vs Grand Forks Red River (ND), 12/30 vs Grand Forks Central (ND), 12/31 vs Notre Dame (Conn.)
The Warriors took the past week off as they enjoyed the holiday break but they will jump back into action this week when they host their annual Hockeytown Holiday Classic. They will play three quality outstate teams as they take on North Dakota powers Grand Forks Red River and Grand Forks Central before finishing with Notre Dame of Connecticut who gave them a good game last year.

5. Sartell (7-2-0)
Past Week Results: L 3-10 Moorhead
Upcoming Schedule: 12/29 vs #6 Blake, 12/30 vs Holy Family, 12/31 vs Andover
The Sabres ran into an angry group of Spuds coming off its first loss of the season, and it was not pretty as they got routed up in Moorhead. Nothing lost as far as these rankings are concerned, but I am sure they had hoped for a better showing. They will look to shake it off this week as they head to the Holiday Classic in the Park. They open with a very intriguing matchup vs Blake that could have state seeding implications down the road, and they will also play premier big school programs, Holy Family, and Andover for a challenging week ahead.

6. Blake (8-2-1)
Past Week Results: Idle
Upcoming Schedule: 12/29 vs #5 Sartell, 12/30 vs Chanhassen, 12/31 vs Holy Family
The Bears were another program that took off the holiday break this past week. This upcoming week they will head to the Holiday Classic in the Park. They have a big match up to get things rolling as they will take the team sitting just ahead of them in the rankings when they play Sartell. They will follow that up with good tests vs AA Chanhassen and Holy Family for some good post Christmas puck.

7. Northfield (8-1-0)
Past Week Results: W 4-2 #19 Detroit Lakes, W 3-2 #18 Northern Lakes,
Upcoming Schedule: 1/2 vs New Prague
Northfield had itself a great Northern Swing as they were able to get on the bus the day after Christmas, make the long trek north, and pick up two good character road wins. They were able to tame a Detroit Lakes crew that was coming in off a big program win and then, on short rest, played a fresh Northern Lakes team and fought out of an early deficit to pick up the good sweep. Lots of good mojo around the Raiders at the moment, which they will look to continue when they take on New Prague this week.

8. Cloquet/Esko/Carlton (5-6-0)
Past Week Results: L 2-4 # 1 Hermantown
Upcoming Schedule: 12/29 vs #15 Luverne, 12/30 vs St Cloud Public, 12/31 vs #11 Monticello
The Lumberjacks showed they are again a legitimate contender in Class A this past week as they took Hermantown to the wire at home, and they are not gonna be a fun semifinal matchup for one of the big two in 7A come playoff time. This coming week, they will head down to the Granite City Showcase and open up by taking on unbeaten Luverne, which should be a good barometer for both teams, and they will end the week playing a hot Moose team for some good Holiday tourney action.

9. Mahtomedi (4-5-2)
Past Week Results: W 4-3 OT East Ridge
Upcoming Schedule: 12/30 @ #12 Orono, 1/3 @ Minnetonka
The Zephyrs got back into the win column as they were able to take down East Ridge in overtime this week. The result is not a great one, but not a terrible one either, as the Raptors are an underrated team. Mahtomedi will hope that it can spark some positive momentum in their favor as they have an important week up with a Class A game vs ranked Orono before wrapping up with the State’s top big school team in Minnetonka, but those are the type of opponents they have thrived against.

10. Breck (7-3-0)
Past Week Results: W 7-0 Two Rivers
Upcoming Schedule: 12/30 @ Hutchinson, 1/3 @ #3 Delano
Breck cruised past Two Rivers in their only action of the week as they put up a home shutout. Going to put them back into the Top Ten for now, as they have really handled their business fairly well, other than the ugly outing vs Holy Angels. Now this week, they have two Section 2A contests as they look to improve their seeding, taking on a winless Hutchinson crew before a big showdown at the end of the week at Delano.

11. Monticello (4-2-2)
Past Week Results: W 4-1 Little Falls
Upcoming Schedule: 12/29 vs Mankato East, 12/30 vs #15 Luverne, 12/31 vs #8 Cloquet/Esko/Carlton, 1/2 @ Cambridge/Isanti
Here comes the Moose as we are finally starting to see why this team was tabbed as a Top 10 group and Section 5A favorite of late. They were able to win their third straight game this week, playing their normal lockdown defense as they suffocated Little Falls in a road win. Now they will look to make a serious push this week as they head to the Granite City Showcase with a match vs two Top 15 teams in Luverne and Cloquet/Esko/Carlton to show they are ready to jump back into the Top Ten.

12. Orono (3-5-2)
Past Week Results: L 0-3 #17 Minneapolis
Upcoming Schedule: 12/30 vs #9 Mahtomedi, 1/3 vs Providence Academy
The Spartans suffered a critical Section 2A loss to Minneapolis at home this week, which sends them out of the Top Ten and has them scrambling a bit as far as seeding goes, with the head-to-head loss to Delano already. They can still cling to that Breck overtime win, but this week's game vs Providence Academy is important to remain in the hunt for a top 3 to 4 seed, which will be critical in such a deep section. Ohh, by the way, they also have a big match up with perennial power Mahtomedi as well, the schedule just never lets up for Orono.

13. St Cloud Cathedral (4-6-0)
Past Week Results: Idle
Upcoming Schedule: 12/29 vs Litchfield/Dassel-Cokato, 12/30 vs Sauk Rapids-Rice, 12/31 vs St Cloud Public
The Crusaders were another program that was idle over the holiday break. They will host their annual Granite City Showcase this upcoming week. They have two important section contests when they take on 5A Litchfield/Dassel-Cokato and Sauk Rapids-Rice in games they want to win for seeding purposes. They then finish up the week with their annual showdown vs cross town rival St Cloud Public.

14. Chisago Lakes (6-2-2)
Past Week Results: Idle
Upcoming Schedule: 12/30 @ Totino-Grace, 1/2 vs #18 Northern Lakes
The Wildcats took the holiday break off as well this past week. Which gave Chisago Lakes a full week to prepare for this coming week as they will take a trip to AA Totino-Grace, and then return home for a Northern Lakes game, which will offer some intrigue for these rankings.

15. Luverne (11-0-0)
Past Week Results: W 5-4 Albert Lea
Upcoming Schedule: 12/29 vs #8 Cloquet/Esko/Carlton, 12/30 vs #11 Monticello. 12/31 vs LDC, 1/3 @ Mankato East
Roll Cards Roll continued to play with fire this week as for the third consecutive game they found themselves in battle with a team they should be putting away. They were able to pull out another win in the third period to beat Albert Lea and remain unbeaten but a concerning trend nonetheless. Now we will see where this team is really at as they leave Southern Minnesota and play three very good opponents at the Granite City Showcase before ending the week with the most important game being a seeding matchup at 3A Mankato East.

16. Rochester Lourdes (6-2-1)
Past Week Results: Idle
Upcoming Schedule: 12/29 Red Lake Falls, 12/30 Somerset (Wis.), 12/31 TBD
Lourdes was another team that chose to take the holiday break off. Now this coming week they will make the long trek up north to play in the Bill McGann Holiday Classic in Proctor. They open up with pool play action with Red Lake Falls and Somerset (Wis.) both games they should win to have a chance to play for the holiday title up north.

17. Minneapolis (6-4-1)
Past Week Results: W 3-0 #12 Orono T 3-3 OT #21 Waseca
Upcoming Schedule: 1/3 vs Armstong/Cooper
The 612 crew pulled one of the bigger stunners of the week when they went into Orono and pulled a big upset win over the Spartans. The win gives them an early leg up on section seeding as well, and they then traveled to Waseca and dug out of a three-goal deficit for a solid road tie. Minneapolis is currently (6-1-1) vs Class A competition, and this spot feels about right for now, as they will play Armstrong/Cooper this week.

18. Northern Lakes (5-3-1)
Past Week Results: L 2-3 #7 Northfield
Upcoming Schedule: 12/30 @ Hudson (Wis), 1/2 @ #14 Chisago Lakes
The Lightning had a chance at a big win this week when they jumped out to a 2-0 lead on Top 10 Northfield. However, they were unable to stay out of the box, and some discipline issues allowed the Raiders back into the game, and Northern Lakes eventually lost out on a big opportunity. The game does show that this team is getting closer to contender status. They will look to get that missing big win this week when they take on ranked Chisago Lakes at the end of the week.

19. Detroit Lakes (5-5-0)
Past Week Results: L 2-4 #7 Northfield
Upcoming Schedule: 1/2 @ #20 East Grand Forks, 1/3 @ Fargo Davies (ND)
The Lakers were unable to build off their momentum from their big win the previous week as they fell at home to a good Northfield team in their only game of the week. Now they have maybe their most important game of the year as they have a rematch with East Grand Forks on the road, and the winner of this one most likely gets the higher seed come sections, so it's a critical game to start 2026. They also have another North Dakota game, and they have yet to win one of those this year, so it's a good opportunity to start 2026 on a good note.

20. East Grand Forks (2-7-1)
Past Week Results: L 1-5 Grand Forks Central
Upcoming Schedule: 1/2 vs #19 Detroit Lakes, 1/3 vs Grand Forks Red River
The Greenwave struggles continued this week as not even playing a North Dakota school could break their winless streak as they fell decisively to rival Grand Forks Central. At this point it is hard to leave the Defending Champs in the Top 20 but they are playing a very challenging schedule and we have seen this team turn it around before. Maybe the calendar will help as they get a weekend opportunity to start 2026 as they can win the all important second matchup with Detroit Lakes for 8A seeding and win the Gambucci Cup the next day.

Next Five Notable Teams
Waseca (5-4-1)

The Bluejays looked like they were on track for their first big win of the year when they jumped out to a 3-0 lead over Minneapolis at home. Unfortunately, they let the lead slip away, and they had to settle for a tie for another just frustrating result for this team. They just haven't yet found a way to win the big games on their schedule, and they will hope to get back in the win column this week vs Southwest/Christian Richfield.

St Louis Park (5-5-0)
The Orioles picked up an important Section 2A win over Providence Academy this week in their only action. Even more important was that St Louis Park was able to post a shutout in the win. The defense is slowly improving, and this will be a scary team if they get things figured out in their own end. This week, they continue at the SSP Holiday Tournament as they try to beat some big school competition for the Title.

International Falls (6-0-1)
The Broncos took the holiday break off and they will now host their annual Winternational Falls Holiday Classic. The Falls will be looking to defend their title in this one though in an interesting schedule quirk it appears they will only play two games vs Willmar and Bagley/Fosston as they dropped the rematch with Fort Frances in favor of adding a game with Northern Lakes later in the year.

Thief River Falls (6-6-0)
The Prowlers, after a dreadful start to the year, re-enter the rankings this week as they have now won 5 games in a row to get back to .500 before the new year. They were able to have a great week of Christmas as they won an important head-to-head match-up with 8A Crookston to start the week and then went (2-0-0) in their Ralph Engelstad Hockey Classic. Now they will take the week off before starting their second half of the year, feeling very good about their game of late.

Irondale (5-1-1)
The Knights suffered their first loss of the season this past week as they dropped a bad one to Two Rivers. While the loss was not a great result, I will leave them here for now, as no one else is really pushing to move in at the moment. They will head to Duluth this week for the Heritage Holiday Classic, and they will take on the team that is right beneath them in these rankings at the moment when they face off against Mankato West in the opening round.
