Girls HS scoring records
I took some time to look over some of the scoring records that I found here. Some of these numbers are ridiculous.

mnpuck.com/top_career_scorers.htm

The question(s) I'd like to open up for discussion is:
*Are these records safe?
*Is anyone ever going to reach these kind of numbers again, or has the competition improved to the point where 1 player can't get 6-8 pts in a game?

Edited by: <A HREF=http://p100.ezboard.com/bmnhs.showUserP ... herdude at: 2/13/06 4:51 pm

The records aren't save. Emily Erickson could challenge it:
7th grade: 26 pts
8th grade: 52 pts
9th grade: 63 pts
10th grade: 64 pts
Thats 206 with atleast 1 game left in this season and then 2 more years...is it a stretch, yes, but players can challenge these records.

Re: Girls HS scoring records
I don't believe that we'll ever see a metro player challenge these records. Outstate - maybe, but the SOS of most metro teams and the best players' teams typically going with a strong SOS just won't make it easily possible to challenge these records.

One thing that was pointed out to me was that no one in the metro has gotten very close to these numbers (400+ club) since before 2001 or so???

Edited by: <A HREF=http://p100.ezboard.com/bmnhs.showUserP ... ckeyfan at: 2/13/06 7:30 pm

Re: Girls HS scoring records
I forgot to add that some score control by metro coaches has likely kept some metro scorers from getting closer to 400. The NSP gals are examples of this as they rarely play much in the third period no metter if they played for any one of the three coaches there in the last few years...

Jenna Kilpatrick is at 392 and will probably end up the 2nd leading goal scoring in Girls Hockey History!
Kacy Ambroz also from New Prague scored her 200th point last week as a sophomore! She did this is 3 seasons (did not play high school during 7th grade)

Emily Erickson is well over 200 as a sophomore as well

Re: Girls HS scoring records
Ambroz, Erickson, and Kilpatrick are all amazing kids and will be deserving of those top scoring records.

As far as metro players go, I had the honor of coaching two girls that are above average point scorers. Maria Stoa & Melissa Feste are likely both getting near 200 career points as a junior and sophomore respectively. They've played their entire careers in the strong Lake Conference, which likely has made putting up bigger numbers more challenging.

I should also mention that Kennedy's Nikki Ludwigson, who has played both F & D and is the star of that program, has put up some impressive numbers and is currently a sophomore. She too is a career long Lake Conf. player (7th-10th grade).

Edited by: <A HREF=http://p100.ezboard.com/bmnhs.showUserP ... ckeyfan at: 2/13/06 8:02 pm

Re: Girls HS scoring records
This doesnt even break the top 10 but Laura Hillman just got the number 13 spot in MN all time scoring. I also agree with many of you, it is a lot harder to score and there arent very many 6 point games any more. An example is the Big Nine this year was the toughest it has ever been and pretty soon those not so good teams are going to be decent, so I dont think many of those records will be broken.

I agree with ghs, IF these records are going to be broken it will be someone outstate.

I think it speaks well for the state of girl's hockey in that the talent pool has improved. We're starting to see more teams with more of the better players and less of the 1 - player teams. Across the board girls hockey is improving. Sure some may approach the records and displace others in the top 10, but I think because the talent across the board has improved some of these will be safe for a long time.

Says to me Darwitz could've (more like would've) had over 700 pts if she'd played her last two seasons, and Wendell might have surpassed Darwitz had she been around to play her 7th-10th grades.
"Dream as if you'll live forever; Live as if you'll die today." --James Dean

Good point Nerd,
Just think what might have been if Darwitz wasn't playing on the US National Team her junior year or the Olympic Team her senior year...
I saw on the NBC Olympic site that Krissy Wendell played in the Little League World Series too. She was a catcher, played infield and batted 3rd. Quite an athlete.

Re: Girls HS scoring records
I have noticed that many of the scoring leaders in the out state regions had greater numbers in their younger years and then diminish in their senior year. It could be that the outstate is starting to improve on their level of hockey.

Re: Girls HS scoring records
I'd agree with that. Other potnetial changes for year to year have to do with playing for different coaches with different philosophies relative to many aspects of the game, and also how their supporting cast changes, in addition to a change in strength-of-scheudle, etc.
