Re: Championship game, New Prague vs. Austin

Post by falcons88 »

Most of you were wrong on the AL /Austin Game. I expected a Hillman/Faber showdown. Never saw it. Austin controlled the game from the beginning and was obviously the best team. The coaches seeds were correct. Austin had better players beyond their star. I even felt Jenkins and Heimsness contributed more to the game even though they scored 5 goals they did many other noteworthy things. There was no answer for them. However I also watched the New Prague Game. They have way more talent than either team. Their top line is stronger than Austin's and they have a better goalie. New Prague by 4 unless cinderella dances for Austin.

Nice quote

Post by hockeydad »

I got a chuckle out of this quote, from the New Ulm goalie, in the Mankato paper....

“They are very beatable. New Prague is not as good as some people think.”

I'm not challenging the accuracy of the quote, but it sounds kind of ridiculous coming from a goalie that needed to put some aloe vera lotion on the back of her neck after getting sunburnt from the goal light going on so much.

It is too bad for the rescheduled times, it will cut down on the size of the crowd.

Edited by: <A HREF=http://p100.ezboard.com/bmnhs.showUserP ... lcons88 at: 2/16/06 4:55 pm

True about the timing. However, New Prague has no school Friday. (workshop day) I'm thinking there will be plenty of students making the trip, since it's only 30-40 minutes. and late on Friday, a lot of adults can find a way out of work early.

Austin is a different story. the trip is longer.

well by the looks of things i am gonna have to take np by 5 give or take a few but i just think that if you use a team with speed against austin (faber) then you can take them out of the game watching an austin game i seen that they dont really have any speed so if you use ur teams then u can just skate around faber and the better players of austin

NP

Don't see a chance this game is closer than 5 goals, NP is the better deeper team, and has the playoff experience on their side.

i agree austin relys souly on faber/jenkins but i think that if they want this game eto be within the 5 goal margin they all need to step it up.

According to the MSHSL NP beat Austin 6-1 today and moves on to State.

This means that the Missota will have 2 - and a shot at 3 - teams in the state tourney this season...

Edited by: <A HREF=http://p100.ezboard.com/bmnhs.showUserP ... ckeyfan at: 2/17/06 7:56 pm

The system worked the way it's suppose to. The #1 seed played the #2 seed and the better team moved on. I was at the game and I think Austin proved they can play with NP. The refs seemed to be bias towards NP from the drop of the puck, and you can't be short handed against a team like NP. I think the score would have been closer if the refs would have called NP for the same penalties Austin sat in the box for.
Good Luck to NP at state.

NP played well. But I have to say, watching the game I was a little disappointed. I expected Kilpatrick to score goals and really stand out,and she didn't. In my opinion Kacy Ambroz is better than Kilpatrick.

Both are great players. Maybe Kilpatrick had an off night? I don't say this to take anything away from either of them, but one game doesn't determine a player's ability in my mind. Both are highly talented.

kilpatrick

Post by hockeydad »

Jenna had some good scoring chances, but the austin goalie made a couple of good saves.

I also noticed the trainer looking at Kilpatrick twice on the bench during the game. She took a few hard shots in the game, (hence the penalties on Austin). I thought the refs let a lot go both ways yesterday. It was a physical game.

She had a few assists and set up some nice goals, and controlled teh puck when she neeeded to. Ambroz had the better scoring chances yesterday and took advantage of them.

A great hockey player isn't determined by how many goals she scores but LOTS of aspects of the game from reading the ice and passing to the backchecking and forechecking efforts. KILPATRICK is well rounded and contributes to the game even when she isn't putting the puck in the back of the net. REMEMBER it takes all 6 girls on the ice to make the play happen and sometime the best players are in the background setting up for someone else to capitalize & finish. GREAT players can do both.
