Where's the Heart?
All of this arguement is absolutely astounding. It saddens me to see parents that treat the sport that their kid works so hard at every single day, like a debate. Let the girls play for christs sake. If there is one reason that programs and teams are collapsing it is the parents. The team isn't out to tend to your needs. Yes, it is important to look out for your daughter and her future, but if you are going to distruct everything in your path to get what you want then you definitely don't deserve what you're hunting for. It's amazing to see how much the parents think the hockey is about them. It's not about what you want or what you feel is right. And this is me speaking to you as a PLAYER to a hockey "parent". Sometimes it's nice to ignore the politics and just do what we love, and it can't happen if you are breathing down the necks of the every single desision maker known to the sport. Hockey is what people loved long before parents from hell got involved, and the passion will continue long after you are (hopefully) gone. So as much as it is SOOO HAARDD to be a hockey parental, the least you can do is cool the jets and let the love of the game be the reason we play...not what you want. Because in the end it's never about you. Take Mighty Ducks as your prime example. The part when Adam Banks finds out he is playing for the Ducks instead of the Hawks. His dad or someone makes a comment about how he should be playing for the Hawks, not a bad team like the Ducks. He responds with the comment "Whatever, I just want to play hockey." Let that one echo for a while, maybe you will hear it.

Edited by: <A HREF=http://p100.ezboard.com/bmnhs.showUserP ... y112233 at: 2/27/06 12:26 am

Agreed. Youth sports would be better off if the parents dropped their kids off at the door of the arena and returned an hour or so later at the end of the game. Then a simple, "Did you have fun today?" would be sufficient conversation about the game, practice, etc.

I wholeheartedly agree as well. I think we as parents have to be careful not to put too much pressure on our kids and take all the fun out of it for them. From what I've witnessed the parents stay angry about bad ref's and coach's decisions a lot longer than the players do.

It was amusing for me that following this thread the subjects are already who's going to be the best next year and next year's schedules. I know its all in fun and exciting to speculate about, but come on, there is life outside of hockey! Right?!!
