Re: Ms Hockey
In my opinion Ms. Hockey is a two headed race...
Sure there probably allot of girls deserving of this award, but in my opinion no one deserves it more then #21 of North, and #14 of Stillwater. If I had to pick one it would be #14.. She is just too explosive, and she just seems to make her teamates so much better. I've been to quite a few of both of there games and #14 just seems to stand out to me a little bit more. She has gotten so much better playing for Coach Scheid. He has a way of getting the most out of his players. He's got her playing good defense now, which use to be the knock on her.. Man, what a game that would be if they met in the section finals in Stillwater. Lets all hope for that game!!! Either way, Ms. Hockey won't be attending the U of M fot the first time in a long time.. Wow, What a loss..

Ms Hockey
Holly Roberts. Being outstate, she doesn't get the recognition she should. She probably won't win it though, because GiGi from Warroad won it last year.....they'll never pick back to back Warroad girls.

Agreed, ten excellent candidates, all of whom would be a fine Ms. Hockey. Congratulations and good luck to all.

Re: Ms Hockey
My money is on Thunstrom. Speaking of Thundstrom... when looking at the list of ten, why are so many going out of state? It use to be that Mn. got the best Mn. kids and I don't see that anymore. We have 5 D1 teams in this state alone. Where are these colleges getting their kids from if not from Minnesota?<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/images/emoticons/mad.gif ALT=">:"> I think we have the best feeder program in the country.

Re: Ms Hockey
Could it be that we just have more good kids now and as a result more MN kids are going out of state and populating MN D1's???

I do agree though that many of the finalists are going out of state (obviously).

Re: Ms Hockey
There were some really good players that didn't make the top 10 list. Not that I can find someone in the top ten that doesn't deserve to be...
Many players that are top notch... We could have had another 10 players...

Horton
Farni
Zebro
Parenteau
B. Johnson
Tr. Johnson
Naslund
Toupal
Bloemers
Ti. Johnson

Just to name a few... (I know I'm missing players) What a deep class! This is the deepest class in the history of the state...
Congrats to those named to the top 10... I'm sure finding a top 5 will not be easy!

Hockeyhead

1 defensemen, 9 forwards for Ms Hockey? (Ms Hockey is all about the forward position).
If's there's an award for forwards, and an award for goalies, then why isn't there an award for defensemen??
The chance of a defensemen winning Ms Hockey, is slim and none and slim just left the building!

Re: Ms Hockey
I believe there should be 3 sets of finalists -

Top 10 G - for MS. G
Top 10 D - for MS. D
Top 10 F - for MS. F

Then, go to Top 5 @ each.

Then, announce the MS. G, MS. D, & MS. G - & "MS. HOCKEY" (out of these 3) at the same time @ the banquet.

Slashes shouldn't be eligible for Ms. D either.

Ms Hockey
Agree with earlier post regarding glaring lack of D in the final 10. Something in the selection process makes it tough for D to be selected. There are probably 10 D in this year's senior class going to D1 programs. Scoring totals are easy to track and those are the players that get the publicity. Harder to track the good D unless you're at the games. The suggestion to have separate awards makes sense. But it won't help the girls overlooked this year <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/images/emoticons/mad.gif ALT=">:">

Re: Ms Hockey
I would have to say that Whitney Naslund, not only deserves to be in the top 10, but I would consider her in the top 5. I don't think any one girl in the final 10 should be removed, but Naslund deserves to be on the list. She has lead her team to 4th place in the lake conference and without her they would be fighting it out for last place. She doesn't have the benefit of:

Having 4 superstars on the same team,
Having a line-mate that is in the top 10, or
Playing in a weak conference.

The 10 girls that were picked as the 10 finalists all play on teams ranked in the top 20. Sometimes we need to look past the rankings and find the player that truely makes their team better.

Re: Ms Hockey
WHO HAS FOUR SUPERSTARS ON ONE TEAM?!

Re: Ms Hockey
After reading Whitney Naslund's bio in the LPH nomination ad this week (too late for her, obviously), I'd send my vote to her too. I think she truly does do more extra-hockey work than most girls. Who knows what either of the Bloomington teams might have accomplished if their girls had "stayed home" instead of leaving for EP, AHA, wherever, etc?

That being said, we're given the top 10. A bit short on D's in my opinion but that is no surprise.

Any "party" girls among the top 10? Any "attitude" players? No, I won't point fingers or name names (those living in glass houses, etc).

My vote of the remaining 10 goes to Caitlin Hogan of NSP - my "green" team played them in November, 3-3 tie.

Caitlin works the ice from end-board to end-board, digs the puck out of the corners, and flips it to the cherry picker(s?) and gets more assists than goals (about 2.5 assists to 1 goal, compared to more than the opposite proportion for her speedy linemate). She's the full game player, not that others aren't, but she gets my vote (like my vote's worth a tinker's dam...go look it up, it's not dirty! )

Quote:
I hope Holly wins it

Question, I check sportshuddle scoring stats once / twice a week and haven't seen Holly listed this season...even when I searched by player name. If I recall she finished #2 behing Gigi last season...and as everyone knows, has always been a top scorer. I'm assuming no one is reporting her stats this season...is this correct? If so, can anyone enlighten me as to how she's done this season?

Ms Hockey D
To all of you that really know the sport, thank you for supporting the D. Forwards get all the glory and so do goalies. The D are forgotten about. For those pro forward fans where does the play start? Who's there protecting the goalies. I give all defensemen credit, because they play the game for the love of the game, because it certainly can't be for the glory, because they don't get any. UNSUNG heroes of the game, and truly takes a special and unselfish person to play the position. Go D
