the best players
I once suggested Roberts might be the most naturally gifted player ever in high school because to me she looks the most effortless. Obviously this debate can go on and on. I mean I never have seen Darwitz play. So if you were to make your case for the best player ever, what specifs about their play would it be? Or even better yet talk about the qualities of each of the big names that stick out to you.
"Dream as if you'll live forever; Live as if you'll die today." --James Dean

Re: the best players
I've never seen Roberts play in person, but it's a thread-worn cliche that "the great ones make it look easy". This is especially true in a fast sport like hockey. Instincts are everything.

Re: the best players
FWIW some years ago I took a lot of heck for taking 7th & 8th graders on my HS roster, and for nominating them for All-State, and also for pulling for a Warroad player to be recognized as All-State while quite young (8th or 9th grade - I can't remember)...

You can see the instincts young in players, and I think that this is what makes all the difference in the end between a talented player, and a great one.

As for those 7th & 8th graders, they all went to lake placid last year as 9th/10th graders and I expect that they will be finalists for Ms. Hockey these next two years. As for the Warroad gal, she ended up being Ms. Hockey.

Roberts is a great player.

Re: the best players
I frankly think Roberts is classic. Through the entire game SSP had no answers for her. If a player is on the side boards straddled by three SSP players and comes out untouched, that's goofie good. I enjoyed all the showcase talent this tournament, but frankly I don't believe any one else in state can consistently deek out from the most difficult positions as Roberts. All the other players I appreciate for specific reasons, but Roberts because of the total package. I would have loved to see what she could do against the speed of EP.
"Dream as if you'll live forever; Live as if you'll die today." --James Dean

Here's Darwitz's stats in HS. Just too good. In terms of artistry, I dunno.

(GP/G/A/PTS)
1999-2000 Eagan High School 26 82 35 117
1998-99 Eagan High School 23 60 34 94
1997-98 Eagan High School (Grade 28 85 58 143
1996-97 Eagan High School (Grade 7) 25 85 48 133
"Dream as if you'll live forever; Live as if you'll die today." --James Dean

A reason I think that holly and gigi (marvin) made it look so easy was with who they trained with in their first years of hockey. You can see the 'boy" in their style

O.K. how can you count out kids that are from the Minnekota area, even if they play for AAA clubs for the high school season? I don't understand this, they are registered under the usa minnekota district and would be playing MN H.S. hockey if they chose not to go this route. Why the double standard?

Re: ???????
every time i see any type of "rating"of the top H.S. players in MN, I always see the "this doesn't include the Thoroughbreds and SSM". just curious why most of the posts of this kind exclude them. The Thoroughbreds have a few girls from MN that definately would rank.

Re: ???????
My guess is that most don't know any or many of the TBs or SSM and this is a HS hockey forum after all. I know Frakie (sp), Hebert and Dronen on the TBs and the Lamerioux's, Hirsh on SSM. I know there are many more but don't recall the names.

Edited by: <A HREF=http://p100.ezboard.com/bmnhs.showUserP ... xk1>xk1 at: 3/6/06 5:01 pm

re. ?????????
I get your point now Peter.
It's because we hate them for abandoning what we believe in. Just another form of Minnesota nice/discrimination.
Surely you know I'm joking, but I believe there is some merit in what I say.

Emily Erickson will end up being one of the greatest girl hockey players of all-time, no doubt about it.
"Halloween Machine"
