Chicago Showcase
Dates and rosters should be set?? Mid-April is a good guess for starting date, roster... depends on if the scholorship players decide to go. My guess is someone out there has the roster of girls who are going. Please share!

Re: Chicago Showcase
The dates of the showcase are April 18th-23rd, but at the senior classic the dates were mistakenly printed as the week of April 9-15th, and players were asked if they could play the 9-15th rather than the 18th-23rd, so I do not know if they have rosters set as of yet.

Re: Chicago Showcase
Information about the Chicago Showcase should be sent within the next 2 weeks to the girls selected on Sunday of the Senior Classic.

Edited by: <A HREF=http://p100.ezboard.com/bmnhs.showUserP ... ckeynut at: 3/19/06 12:13 pm

Re: Chicago Showcase Roster
Why are there Juniors on the roster? Laura Komereck and Sara Yungner are both Juniors.

Of the 16, 13 are seniors with a hand full of D-1 players. Re: Chicago Showcase Roster
Doesn't the boys Chicago Showcase send a team of Seniors who aren't going to a division one school. It is a last chance for players to be seen in case someone has fallen through the cracks.

I know other states don't do that but shouldn't we be trying to get as many kids as possible a chance to play hockey at the next level. The Juniors will be found without going to Chicago. And the Seniors who are going to Division I programs don't have anything left to prove.

Re: Chicago Showcase Roster
I agree with gainazone. There is no reason for a girl to go who has already signed. Let it be a chance for someone who hasn't committed yet.

Re: Chicago Showcase Roster
FWIW - and many are forgetting this - people DO turn these things down. It may be that some players that we are thinking of have declined.

This is not cheap, a BIG time commmitment, school missed, Spring sports missed, etc.

I think that we should send the best team we can with the upperclassmen as we also don't want to just be taking any senior that may not even be a D3 caliber player just to take seniors that are unsigned.

Re: Chicago Showcase Roster
Exactly, It's not cheap but if you want to play at the next level and haven't been spotted yet this is an investment.

With as many kids as we have playing the game, and all of the new womens programs out there. I really don't see a reason why we can't put an emphasis on sending kids out to be seen.

Yes some will turn down the opportunity to go but they are the kids who probably aren't going to go on and play.

I've had one kid who is now playing at a very good Division III school, and one that has not decided where she is going but has every MIAC school trying to get her that weren't even invited to Senior Fest where I believe they pick most of the kids for Chicago. I would guess it has happened elsewhere also.

We have the kids. We need to do a better job of finding them.

Junior Players and D-1 commitments
I think having Juniors go should not be an issue. These are all talented players. It may even be a better opportunity for Juniors in the event a school is interested in them as they will have time to investigate the school; perhaps visit and make an informed choice rather than having to decide on a school in a matter of weeks?

The observation about seniors going who already committed to a college is interesting. If we exclude them from the Chicago Showcase shouldn't the same be said for NDP tryouts as that for the most part is really a way to be seen by colleges as well?

I know in the SW 88/89 group there were at least 9 girls in Phase 1 that were committed at D-1 schools. This certainly precluded others from being seen this weekend and later in Lake Placid. Is anyone complaining about that?

Re: Chicago Showcase Roster
I believe we can put an emphasis on kids being seen, or that we need to do so, but I think that this program was set up to start by looking at kids that played Senior Festival.

The thought process may be that if they didn't attend that (by choice or lack of selection), that then they wouldn't want to go to Chicago (or shouldn't go due to ability). Of course, some of the lack of attendance of Senior Fest may have been by choice due to conflict...

I assume that some of this too may be that the thought exists that we shouldn't be sending seniors that didn't make Senior Fest, and I assume that's why then top Juniors may have started to be contacted instead? Pure speculation here, but I think that we in MN have had some different "rule" approaches to how we fill this team historically (all non-committed seniors). The rest of the nation does NOT do that. Part of the fear may be that if we dip too low into the talent pool that then we could create some bad showing for MN and that this then would reflect poorly on the state of G HS Hockey here (even though we were holding ourselves to a different set of criteria than everyone else).

Re: Junior Players and D-1 commitments
FWIW - NDP, in my mind, is the path to US National & Olympic potential participation. So, from that aspect, we can't really fault senior kids for continuing to pursue that dream through this avenue. In fact, I wish more of the top seniors would stay involved, but I understand why they don't too.

What I think is going on as well - in a general sense - is that too many kids just don't have time/$ for all of this with multiple sports/education/etc. all at an elite/advanced level. ACT's were today for example, and many kids were putting those off for hockey... Hmm... Also, heaven forbid that a kid play a spring sport, want to have some time to themself, etc. and not be a dedicated 24/7 specific sport player, etc.

It starts at the top as we parents & coaches push very hard - too hard sometimes. Kids need to have direction, but say & options as only they truly know how burned out they are! we may consider these kids "spoiled" and "fortunate" relative to how we as kids maybe didn't have these options, but with this new level of "opportunity" also comes new challenges that may be worse than what we had in some respects....

I start every discussion with my kids about hockey with the words "remember this is 100% optional" and also we preach the virtues of multi-sport athletes, academics, and time to recover from all the commitments these kids have.

Just want to wish the Minnesota team good luck in the upcoming CS. Took a quick look at the roster again...I'm guessing Bloemers & Hillen are two of the smaller players in the showcase.

Hillen dropped out at the last minute, and Bloemers is showing up late.
