State's Top Goalies
Any thoughts on who the state's best goalies are. There are many that have the potential to follow through with a college career. At Phase 2 this past weekend I noticed many top notched goalies but I also noticed some of them seemed to be a little lazy. This laziness brings down their talent in my opinion. So what are your thoughts? Which Minnesota goalies do you think we will see stand out and potentially play beyond the high school level?

They both have strengths. What a luxury Eagan has. Most teams would love to have just one goalie of that elite level!

I know the Thoroughbreds goalies are both seniors, but what about the Shattuck St. Mary's goalies? I think both have been to the USA select camps, or aren't we counting the club/prep teams?

Borchardt is deserving.

I should add Allison Casey of Edina too - had a 1.4 GAA and beat South St. Paul, Benilde and Cloquet

And, Plumm of Stillwater should go on this list too...

Save Precentage
Save precentage is a better measurement for a top goalie instead of goals against. Goalies on a top team should have a lower goals against, since they do not see as many shots. Its better to look at how many shots and saves are made during a given season. Thoughts on this.

Peter,

Obviously as a SSM parent you care... Who watches SSM or the Thoroughbreds anyway? We "boobs" as you put it so eloquently, like to support Minnesota High School Girls! If you want to know... Ashley Nixon is the best goalie in the state hands down! Just my opinion... There are some others that are very good too!

Hockeyhead

Re: Save Precentage
1st, I have no affinity of any kind, aside from seeing these two programs compete at a high level year in and year out.
2nd, who watches them? probably the same people who watch the HS hockey around MN. Have you ever watched two top teams from the MWEHL and compared that to a MN H.S. game? NO COMPARISON, Or for that matter the district playoffs this year? very fun to watch. I know alot of these girls at the two proviously mentioned programs probably aren't from MN, but its still entertaining all the same.
3rd, I love MN H.S. hockey, as for the pure "H.S. hockey" its the best in the country.
and as for your defense on Ashley, Yessiree, she is a great goalie no doubt. Now the "boob" comment was a lighthearted poke, really no offense intended. Now I understand, 90% of the posters on this forum, are parents of the kids playing HS hockey, and alot of it is about balooning and defending your kids or kids you know. People can get pretty offended when they see there kids names up here not getting the kind of response they feel warrants there skills. Ive just taken a liking to SSM's and the Thoroughbreds game. NOT having a kid playing, I guess I can be impartial to the girls game and who i decide to follow and critique. BUT I think we both can agree, Hockey is a great game.

Forum
Peter,

If you check the title this is a Minnesota Girls High School Hockey Forum, therefore the people can't be considered "boobs” for their posts on that subject. Maybe the posts about non-HS hockey, and out-state girls just belongs in a different place.

Edited by: <A HREF=http://p100.ezboard.com/bmnhs.showUserP ... ocnut11 at: 4/21/06 7:46 am

Re: Save Precentage
Peter,

No offense taken. I've been called worse before. Obviously SSM hockey is great, but so is AAA hockey and that made up of all star teams.

Parents that have their sons or daughters playing for SSM or teams like that are very committed. Paying that much and sending your child to boarding school is very extreme and quite a commitment.

It is my thought that high school hockey has a great history and I would never want to see it changed. I will continue to watch high school hockey and support it! Yes, I watched SSM play a game this year, but only because they were playing a group of high school girls.

Hockeyhead

Re: Save Precentage
Just as a side note - as I think MANY forget - w/out G HS hockey, we wouldn't see the TB or SSM teams at the level they are at today - or Women's/Girls' Hockey in general for that matter. The desire for many young girls to compete on their HS team is a BIG recruiting (youth) motivator. I know very few little girls that say they want to play for the TB or SSM teams! If G HS hockey gets screwed up by the SSM & TB hockey that the rest of the nation HAS to operate like (AAA) as they don't have the G HS game that we have, then I will think that a great thing in G HS hockey will have been destroyed.

This is why I think B&A GEL is important. It's the equivalent of the Boys' Elite LEauge and allows kids to get pre & post HS season competition at a high level W/OUT HAVING TO LEAVE THEIR HS TEAM!!!

Re: State's Top Goalies
Who from the north fit this category?

State's Top Goalies
I am really surprised to see that no one has mentioned Claire Richards from Richfield. She had a save percentage of 94.2% this past season. I believe that was the best in the Classic Suburban Conference. She has little or nothing in front of her. She often sees 40+ shots a game. She is only a sophomore and a bit off of the radar, but come on. The beat Porter and Scavo in % with the girls that they have in front of them is quite an accomplishment.

Re: State's Top Goalies
I don't have time to check stats, but my questions would be, "how many minutes did C. Richards of Richfield have?" As many Scavo and Porter? I highly doubt it. Then I would go to S.O.S. NSP and SSP play a much stronger schedule. Save % for Scavo was something like 94-95%.

State's Top Goalies
Richards did not have the minutes that they had but she played with another goalie who had a % of 90. I think those other goalies were by themselves. How hard is it to have a good save percentage when you face 10 shots a game vs. 50. Yes they play a tougher schedule but by how much? They are in the same conference. Regardless, 94.2% was the best in the conference and it belonged to Richards.
