Southern Minnesota Star Players

Post by hockeyfan8 »

I think Kristin Faber is an excellent player.
As well as Sarah Jensen being able to stop her.
Jodi Holland is a fantastic athlete.
Don't forget Laura Hillman
What do you think?

I agree, those are some good players. Faber is tough to stop, she's so strong. Jenkins is a nice player and a nice compliment to Faber as well, we'll see how good she really is after next season.
West has a couple solid "D", #19(don't know her name) and Amber Ostoff. I thought Gorney was solid as well.
New Ulm's Tiffany Hoffman. Not the fastest on the ice, but fast enough with great hands.
I'll take New Prague's entire first line, their goalie Culshaw and probably a couple more.
If I remember right, Owatonna had a couple big strong defenders that were pretty good too.
I don't remember too much about Mayo, that one was early in the season. Fleischmann(sp) at JM is good, young too.

Faber and Jenkins (austin) will have one more good year and then 9 varsity player graduate and Jenkins will be alone her senior year with no support and no goalie. She'll have to do it alone or transfer!?

Ostoff (West) has Enst for support for a couple of years. But I think Gorney graduates this year.

Kilpatrick and Ambroz (NP) work well together and then after graduation Ambroz will have still have talented role players around her.

Hoffman (NU) didn't impress me. How can you respect that teams stats when they run up the score 22-0 on small towns?

Mayo has lots of talent that will be mostly be seniors next year. Psimos, Harwood, Erickson. This year will be the final BIG9 title for a while

JM has Freishman but I think she will be with Century next year. I heard she has her heart set on a spot with the T-breds so she might not be around next year.

Winona athough a sleeper will be strong next year. They will be led by Florin.

Christensen (AL) will have to grow and beef up without Hillman this year if they plan on beating anyone beside East!

Faribault has a strong first line - Miller,Kastner, Foley but will Kastner & Foley be able to get it done without Miller's muscle after next year?

Edited by: <A HREF=http://p100.ezboard.com/bmnhs.showUserP ... s@mnhs>ice princess at: 3/23/06 7:01 pm

Why are you ignoring the most dominant team in southern Minnesota - Rochester Mayo? Is it just a fluke that they have been winning the conference and section the past few years?
From what I have seen, there are a few truly good players from southern Minnesota. Unfortunately, many others are able to put up big numbers only because the competition is fairly weak. For Austin, Jenkins is the better player. She plays tough on both ends of the ice, and regularly creates great scoring chances. Faber is big and strong, but much like Holland is very one dimensional (good shooting), lacks the skating skills to compete against better players, and has no interst in playing in the defensive zone. Take a look at the team stat sheets and see how these girls fare against the better teams (if they play any). Foley for Faribault is solid with good speed, and Ostoff is a skilled player too. Frischman for Rochester Century has good all around skill and will improve with time, but I hear she might go the T-birds route.

I think the only way you can judge the southern talent is to see how they do against Metro talent. The last couple of years Rochester Mayo has really had their way with the southern competition, played some good competition in the Schwan's Cup, and beat a good Holy Angels team at state. From what I've seen, Mayo's first line is really good. I saw Harwood and Erickson from Mayo play a few games in the OS elite spring league. Both of them played very well against top notch competition. Allie Harwood is sneaky-fast, really skilled on the boards, and truly understands the passing game down low. Brittany Erickson is a consistant scorer, accurate passer, and was one of the best skaters in that league. Those girls have obsiously been coached to play both ends of the ice (something that is usually lacking on elite teams). No wonder Mayo has had so much success.

I hear the other conference teams might try to break up that Mayo co-op team before next year. Is that going to affect the team much? Will that open the door for someone else to knock them off and get to State next year?

Edited by: <A HREF=http://p100.ezboard.com/bmnhs.showUserP ... trolink at: 4/15/06 7:31 pm

Don't forget Katie Psimos on Mayo's 1st line. She's fast, good shot and really good in the defensive zone. Also should mention Nara Higano, maybe Mayo's best D. Will be a junior next year, has good speed, size and excels on playing the one-on-one situation. Can also carry the puck up the ice.

Metrolink-
Maybe you should open enroll like the others if you think that southern hockey is weak. What the heck....maybe you daughter can net a few and make it to the state. She will have next year and then any tranfer will cost her 1 YEAR! Quit CRYING.....and MOVE! Better yet, move south and see if she can make a winning on some team.

Easy there toad. Who's crying? There is some excellent hockey talent coming from your southern teams! Obviously New Prague and Rochester Mayo have proven at State that they can play with anyone. There are also a few other strong teams that aren't far behind. But there seems to be a bigger gap between the top teams and the bottom teams down there. This allows players on teams with a weak schedule to rack up some really big numbers. That doesn't make them a star. Compare the schedules of your southern section championships to the schedules of some of the teams with the "star players" that have been mentioned. You will see that some of those stars don't shine too brightly in the tougher games.

The quality of your southern hockey teams seems to be getting better every year. And from what we're seeing from some of your top young stars (Kilpatrick, Ambroz, Erickson, Harwood, O'Connor, Frischman), the future is BRIGHT!

I agree with Falkster09.. the best years are ahead for the albert lea team. They have Jenna Christenson, Katie Nelson, Sarah Jensen, and Madi Passingham. And keep in mind that the Jenna Katie and Madi are only going to get better in years to come. I have seen Jenna play in the past few weeks and she has grown haha. But it should be tough next year for all teams. My picks for best players are... Mankato- Amber Ostoff
Austin- kristin Faber
