selects and NTDP
I dont like the idea of the NTDP. I agreed with almost all of what Herb said on that whole deal and I have other issues with it that he didnt mention.

However, I dont understand why kids who are involved in NTDP shouldn't get to play Select hockey with their age group. Why not?

As far as them being "given" a spot, I dont get that. I dont mind kids being told they are on the team but they should still come to tryouts. But why do just the NTDP guys get told that? Tryouts for most the kids are just a formality anyway, if things are done right but why guarantee just 3 kids spots?

Re: selects and NTDP
Probably easier to guarantee them a spot than have USA Hockey pay to fly them back to their respective states for a tryout which, like you said, would only be a formality anyway.

tryout facade
Eddie, I am not against guaranteeing them a spot and the reason you give is as good as any. I dont understand why they would give just those 3 the guarantee. There has to be kids that they know they want from around the state.

Re: tryout facade
I assume that these 3 missed opening rounds of tryouts as this is what I get out of scanning the above posts.

While they are currently playing in the second round of playoffs, many MN kids have been done for a month now. It makes logical sense that they wouldn't pull these kids out of playoffs to come home to go through an opening round or two of tryouts as I think it's fair to say they'd likely be deserving of making it out of opening rounds anyway.

They still could have been cut in the end relative to others I assume.

I see the argument about timing as to when the rest of the players trying out were told, etc. - but these three are still MN residence kids that are deserving of consideration.

Maybe in the future they will have to be put through the full tryout process - but I can't blame them for not forcing this while they went as far and as deep as any team of their kind has ever in playoffs. I believe they knocked off the #1 seeded team after finishing strong and just getting the final playoff spot.

While we may not agree with the program, I congratulate the NDTP team for making it farther than any other team in playoffs and also think it sucks that they can't go to the championship series if they win the semifinal series due to league rules. Or so I hear anyway...

cry babies
I think everyone should quit crying. Instead of worrying about other people, worry about yourself. I garauntee those 3 kids worked hard to be able to not tryout so why don't you???? THEY ARE BETTER! And until you are as good as them, you can't say anything. So I suggest you go home and start working hard.

slapshotbg
Hey just because a kid is playing for the USNDT does not mean he is better than any of the other kids that are trying out for their age group, in fact some of the other kids that stayed in MN may be better<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... ns/eek.gif ALT=":eek">

Re: Verbals
I suppose, like you decide to skip college and head to the minors.

Brett 11
Buddy Have you been to a world championship do you even know who played in that u 18 junior thing or are you bsing your way through this u 17's won an u 18 tournament in slovakia with 3 of the four teams that the u 18 did and both were played in slovakia nice try though go look it up for yourself. PS i would bet anything stoa and johnson and frazee go to there respective schools who would leave minnesota and johnson wanted to go to mi his whole life because his dad did so most of you are way out of line and need to think about who reads this. Also i looked all over the iihf sanctioned events none that the us played in were in slovakia and none of then had canada in them because canada doesn't have a national team play in those tournaments they only build a team from major junior players for the u 18 world Championships so don't bs a bser nice try though brett. They did win a four or five nation tournament that included usa slovakia switzerland thats all i know for sure but it wasn't a ten team tourney so brett11 i don't know what your talking about. Taylor finished first in the tourney in scoring thats all i know about that tournament.

Edited by: <A HREF=http://p074.ezboard.com/bmnhs.showUserP ... s>balls at: 4/29/04 7:55 pm

Re: Verbals
This reminds me, I heard Stoa may have been 15 at the time of his verbal - a rather young age to be doing this and he turned 16 soon after, but I think he's young age wise for his grade? He is a Junior now I assume.

balls?
Hey Balls,

How about a little puctuation (periods, commas, uppercase letters to start a sentence, etc.) and a little spell-check action in order to make your next post legible.

The U-18 Junior World Cup is the Summer version of the U-18 World Championship. Every NHL team had scouts over there. The best players in the world under 18 played in it. I gave evidence of that in a previous post. Here is a page from USA Hockey that talks about the tourney and Troy Jutting being named coach of the year as a result of winning it.

<a href="http://www.usahockey.com/usa_hockey/mai ... .

Maybe you couldn't find anything in your search because you have to be able to spell correctly in order for a search engine to be effective. Balls you may have, brains I'm not so sure about.

iihf
Where does it say it was an iihf event? also it said it was thesecond gold medal didn't it. Did it also say it was a five nations tournament I don't know maybe i lack your superior knowledge of the hockey world. But i don't think so.

learn how to read Balls
All the proof you need is in both of the articles listed. Maybe if you could read and comprehend you would be able to answer your own questions.

Minnesota Hockey Failed RJ Anderson
Another post going on talks about RJ Anderson leaving for his Senior year to Juniors.
This kid has to be one of the top 'D' in the state.

Did he ever make Minnesota's National Team? No!!
Probably because he was a young 86. But he belonged on the team. The MINNESOTA HOCKEY MAFIA could not find a way to get by thew politics and put him on the team.

I hope he stays.

Another one that the MINNESOTA HOCKEY MAFIA just messed up on is Michael Sauer at the Select 17's. He was in the top three 'D' at the 51 tournament.

But the MAFIA turned its head to another young 87, just like RJ the year before. They are driving Sauer away just like Anderson.

Its time the "Good old boys" step down!!! The MAFIA has been exposed.

Selects Are A Joke
Where have you all been for the last decade? The selects have always been a joke. It is a disgrace to hockey, but these days what isn't. My son was told he wasn't big enough one year, and he is 6' 3" 220. Then we were told that the jersey numbers were mixed up. Whatever, how dumb do they think we are. To all the kids that didn't make it, I wouldn't worry about it, it truly in the long run means nothing

selects and politics
Why do we flock to this stuff like sheep, then?

If it doesnt mean anything and the team is decided on before tryouts, and tryouts are a joke................ why do we get involved in it?

I have no experience with select teams in hockey but I have a son who made a select team in baseball and participated. He had a blast and made some really nice friends and we met some nice people which is great but thats about it.

If he goes far in baseball it will be because of the practice and play and coachng with his local traveling, VFW, high school, and Legion baseball teams. Not some select experience.

I believe the same is true with hockey.

What do you guys think?

packerboy
I think you are right packerboy. These things do mean something.

While Selects doesn't guarantee anybody anything in the long run, it certainly doesn't hurt to get in front of the eyes of all those recruiters and it doesn't hurt a player to push themself against other top players. The people that are trying to diminish Selects are kidding themselves by saying it doesn't matter.

Of course, not making the team doesn't mean you will never make it to the higher levels either. But to say it doesn't mean anything is way off base.

Re: Minnesota Hockey Failed RJ Anderson
You are so right on the money. What they do to kids is horrible. There are so many good kids that get overlooked. My son is in that category with RJ, boy I could tell you some stoies. It is sick, I don't know how these guys can sleep at night since they have no concious. I hope it is worth it to them. You know what RJ doesn't need all this crap anyway. He will be just fine without it, actually better off.

Packerboy
Personally I have never flocked to these teams, and I never will. And you know what I have saved a lot of time, energy, stress, and money. The cream always rises to the top. My son has never done these so called SELECT teams and he has a scholarship, so makes you wonder.
