I'm thinking Colorado College should win tomorrow night. They have one heck of a team. They block shots like no other, and have a 1st line that is dominate.

Hirsch's actions leave me to believe that he is done. Lucia's comments in this morning's Strib about Hirsch having personal problems and that he was "very worried" about Hirsch really make you wonder what the deal is.

It's pretty bizarre. <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... smokin.gif ALT=":smokin">

Number 1, it's because of strength of schedule and pairwise and all that good stuff. Number 2, The Gophs aren't exactly a bad team either, even after the Final Five, Briggs (the broken sieve), JJ (not broken but still a sieve) and T Hirsch's little show on Friday night. Oh, and LandcowHockey35, i wouldnt talk if i were you, because we're 6-0 against you guys this year <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /smile.gif ALT=":)"> .

Gophers #1 seed? At home? Against who?

Post by Knowlze »

Research regarding Pairwise ranking, found that the nominating committee now (since 2003) awards bonus points for "Good Wins". These secret bonus points are not published. The secret bonus points are how a team that has lost 7 of its last 10 games against the other tournament teams can become a #1 seed.

The Gophers are a good team. That is not the issue, but rather why are they a home #1 seed? They are not the #4 ranked team until the secret bonus points are assigned. The reason is revenue (full house at Mariucci) for the NCAA, and it is pathetic.

Read Patrick Reusse's recent column in the StarTribune regarding "Some Views of Sports at the U are Misleading", if it hasn't already been archived. He makes several outstanding points, regarding U sports, but especially the 2nd regarding hockey.

And I don't really care about the seedings. However, just realize what is going on here, once again an example of corruption by the vary organization (NCAA) that has been anointed to govern the fairness in amateur sports. Hypocrisy continues.

Yea! JJ being a SIV - not a chance. Winning 6/7 and allowing an avg. of right around 2 goals in college hockey is bad. You might need to learn the game again. He is carrying the gophers to the level they need to be going into ncaa's. briggs plays i am completely convinced that both the mens and womens hockey coaches are very political people and do not coach just based on talent, which is wrong.

Gophers

Post by scheids316 »

Knowlze, regardless of which seed the Gophers would have gotten, be it a #1, or #4, they still would have been placed in the West Regional at Mariucci. The committee almost always places host teams in their region if they qualify for the tournament. I fail to see why this is pathetic. You don't think Mariucci would still be packed if the Gophers recieved a lower seed?

Gophers

Post by pasciewicz is a seive »

First of all, of course the Gophs were going to get put into the western regional. That shouldnt have been a surprise. Secondly, the Gophers would have packed Mariucci regardless of who they played. The only difference between #1 and #2 was who we play. #1 seed meant Maine, #2 meant CC or Denver.

Gophers

Ratings Percentage Index (RPI), the Gophers are not a top 4 team (needed to be #1 seed). In fact, they are ranked #7, Cornell, Michigan, New Hampshire are ahead. The unpublished "bonus points" were used to break the PWR tie. That is what is pathetic.

Don't sell the selection process as this fair determination, based on head-to-head, common opponents, etc., when it comes down to a few good old boys in a committee making the brackets to suit themselves. Just do that, and say your doing that, like it used to be, and don't insult our intelligence, with this masquerade of fairness.

There is a difference between playing Maine, and CC or Denver. And if they happen to get by that tough Maine squad, they have the winner of Cornell or Ohio State. Relatively easy skate to the final four, I'd say. Certainly well deserved, the way the have dominated at the end of the year. Nice reward.

It's just getting a little old, that a team with all their recruiting advantages, further continues to get undeserved breaks.

Complaints aside, the bottom line is that the winner of this tournament will have to win four consecutive games against four of the top 16 teams in college hockey. The winner will be very deserving of the championship.

Knowlze, so what if the Gophers are good recruiters? That's a testament to their program and coaching staff.

As far as an easy road to the Frozen Four, Empire pretty much summed that up.

I ordered my West Regional tickets a long time ago and I'll be there this weekend quite honestly having serious doubts if the Gophers will even win a game.

Is the Pairwise a perfect system? Obviously not. Show me a better one. And please don't say RPI as you were talking about earlier. New Hampshire ahead of the Gophers using that system? Please. <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... s/eyes.gif ALT=":rolleyes">
Scheids
(A legend in his girlfriend's mind.)
