Re: Hurt ND player
A buddy of mine works on the bench cutting sticks, sharpening skates and stuff for the Sioux, just talked to him he said the player had surgery, everything went well and he is regaining movement.

Re: Good news
I saw the hit, it clearly was not a clean hit at all, the sioux player was about 2 feet off the boards facing the boards when the denver player Geoff Paukovich hit him, i thought it was intentional and should of gotten him more then just the 2 minutes.

Re: Hit
It was a very bad hit, With the Ref watching it happen my question would be why didnt he call a major on it? He saw it happen in the replay he was looking right at Bina. As for what the penalty should be I would say maybe gone for the playoff's as Bina wont be able to return and it was a very stupid play that this kid needs to learn from

Hit
The hit was no doubt a stupid play. Geoff Paukovich is definitely a hot head out there. He is the type of player to do something like this. He lost his scholarship to Denver, then got it back when his rape charges were dropped. Yea I know what a piece of work.

Edited by: <A HREF=http://p074.ezboard.com/bmnhs.showUserP ... ebest21 at: 3/23/05 11:23 am

Re: Hit
I think that if you injury someone to that degree, you should be banned from amateur hockey period. It shouldn't matter what level. If that would happen, they would send the message LOUD and CLEAR "If you see the name or number, you don't hit them"

I read that Bina may be done playing hockey. The guy who did that to him should be done too.

He'll be in the AHL next year, I know he didn't mean to hurt him, big guy little guy started to turn. Re: Hit
Yeah, he deserved more than a 2 minute boarding penalty....<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... s/eyes.gif ALT=":rolleyes">

Glad to hear the player is recovering.

Re: Hit
MNDylanFan, My point is that if you are banned from amatuer hockey after a hit from behind that breaks a person's neck, you will definately pull up before the hit is delivered. The LOUD and CLEAR part is intended for the up and coming players at all levels. If a bantam player knew that a hit from behind that breaks a guys neck would mean the he would no longer be able to participate in amatuer hockey, I believe that would be enough of a deterant to stop those type of hits. Is a two minute, two and a ten, five minute, five and a game, match penalty enough of a punishment for hitting from behind? Obviously its not, or we would never see it. If Bina regains full use of his arms and legs, he'll be very lucky.

Hit
What i cant figure out about the whole thing, is (a) why the Denver kid didn't get a major on the thing. That friggin Don Adam was right in front of him. (b), i heard one of the AR's got suspened for not calling the hit. HOW DID THIS HAPPEN? Adam should lose his job over this <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... ns/mad.gif ALT=">:"> .

Re: Hit
It's a little drastic to start banning players and referees for mistakes made in the heat of battle.

However, referees in all levels, must call more of the dangerous, violent hits, especially near the boards. And don,t be afraid to call a major penalty. Nobody gets hurt bad from a hold, or use of their hands (like this year's point of emphasis).

Kid's are growing up in hockey with the attitude that a hit to the head, or in the back, is part of the game, because it isn't being called. Don't bother with a stop sign patch, or making the penalty so severe the referees don't call it. Keep the penalty the same as the others, but emphasize to the call every time.

Making rules doesn't influence play, enforcement of the rules does.

Robbie Bina (and the Denver player), your in our prayers.

Re: Hit
I've already told my Squirt that if I see him do that to anyone next year (when he can start checking) that his MOTHER will sit him for the next game if his coach doesn't!

DEnver
i was watching the Denver Bemidji state game ( which was a great game wish the Beavers coulda pulled it out) but it was good to see that Denver had 28 patchs on their helmets for Robbie Bina and they said that the denver organization has been in contact with the Binas...

Re: Hit
I agree it was a nice show of support but still I dont see why they didnt lose that clown for atleast the playoffs. He made no attempt to slow up or avoid the hit. Bina never turned on him and had no clue he was comming. I hope the ref didnt lose his job over it but I do hope he was banned from the post season next season. You watch someone come in that hard and see a kid hurt that bad and only call a minor on him its something that you need to take some responsibley for

Re: Hit
I pray Bina has a full recovery. It was a nasty hit,and probably overly aggressive. That being said,I do believe futher sanction will be forthcoming.(hadn't a suspension been levied earlier in the tourney for a similar type of incident?) But all you players out there take this warning, learn this lesson, you need to play smart ,don't put yourself in that position.we have had coaches or parents tell players not to put yourself in a position perpendicular to the boards (facing straight on). remember to angle yourself some, one way or the other. I know it must be quite easy to think,"I won't get hurt", with the equipment now a days, but players have a responsibility to avoid these situations. In other words you have an obligation to protect yourself. always be aware. This is an intense , aggressive, even dangerous sport .That's an exciting ,appealing part of this game we love.

Re: Hit
Paukovich did get suspended for the first playoff game against the Beavers (by his coach), but was allowed to play in the championship against UNH. The hit was dirty and I can tell you that he does not have the best reputation around the WCHA (even though he is only a freshman).
AHA 2002 & 2005 State Champions!
