Habemus Papem!

Great news for the Roman Catholic Church. Joseph Cardinal Ratzinger has now been elected pope and will take the name Pope Benedict XVI. Ratzinger is from Germany and is known as a conservative Cardinal, now Pope. He was considered the favorite going into the election, and most people consider him the right man for the job. Experts are saying that he is, and will be a similar Pope as Pope John Paul II. Pope Benedict XVI is 78 years old. He speaks three languages (English, Italian, and German). He is also an accomplished pianist. As a Catholic myself, I'm very excited about this very amazing and great news! AHA 2002 & 2005 State Champions!

Ive heard a lot of people arent very happy too. Most of those are progressives though and really dont like how conservative he is. Check this site out, <a href="http://www.catholic-pages.com/grabbag/malachy.asp" target="top">catholic pages</a>. Basically whats its saying is according to this one dudes prophecies, we only have one more Pope to go before the end of the world. Its weird but a lot of his prophecies are pretty dead on. A lot of the people against Pope Benedict XVI are extremely left liberals, especially in America who support homosexual marriages. I think it's good this Pope was elected. And for the end of the world, what are you trying to say? The world is going to end as soon as this 78 year-old man dies. Well, I hope to be living after he dies and I just think that man is crazy, or scary, one of the two. AHA 2002 & 2005 State Champions!

Actually, the prophecies say that we will have a short-lived pope. then we will have a pope that lasts a very long time. Then the end of the world happens. 2A

I'm not trying to say anything, just stating an observation. Would everyone truely be happy no matter who they chose as Pope? ER- good point! topper- why don't you like the choice? Just currious. And I went to a Catholic school as well, Wessy is one of my best buds! I don't think a 78 year-old pope will have a long papacy, but the end of the world after the next one?, I hope not. But I'll probably be dead anyways. Carry on! AHA 2002 & 2005 State Champions!

As I understand, topper is a female. The new pope is a hardcore conservative pope. He thinks that women should have little to no role in the church, and that protestant religions shouldnt even be considered religions. 2A

Well 2A almost got all of it right! He is more conservative than i would like, and its true about the whole female right, and their involvement in the church. I as a female would like to see a pope that would welcome women into the church as equals! Someday that will happen and i will be waiting, until then i hope this pope is as good as can be!<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /smile.gif ALT=":)">

nice to see my fellow catholics out in force. NOt my favorite choice but i think he keep the church strong. AS the predictions i was just talking to jdawg about them today. He said according to some guy that 2 popes from now the RCC will end and the city of the 7 hills will be destroyed. I was a lil surprised to hear it but who knows...

i don't like him. he wont let priests marry and they should be. he should also ordain women. God really doesn't care. the only reason priests cant marry is saul paul who after 100 yrs or so of catholicism being separate from judaism (they worshiped together for the longest time, but the jews didnt like that christians wouldn't make converts get circumcised) so priests were allowed to marry until they (the church) freaked out and thought that the heirs would steal land from the church....so you see it has nothing to do with being chaste although that is their claim. personally, when it comes to priests getting married, it gives them a better sense of the communities they serve (and families.) Having first hand experience would enhance their ability to relate to us. ordaining women too...all this would increase the number of priests in america and would hopefully reduce the amount of pedophiles who become priests. and when it comes to eschatology...even jesus himself did not know when the end of the world would be. so, if the son of God doesn't know, how can a prophet know?
