Ever think of getting new forums?

Post by FreeAGENT »

I'm not one to complain but I was just curious as to if the administrators have ever discussed anything along the lines of a new forum server.

This server is tattered and sloppy, and if you were to find sleek, well designed forums, I'm sure this would become a more active community.

Do it for us, the Minnesota HS Hockey fans.

FA,

The put down was unwarranted, we don't need the negativity.

To answer your question: Yes, it has been considered.

Mostly due to the pop-ups or fees rather than any perceived technical superiority of vBulletin or phpBB.

To date, I have decided against it.

My intentions weren't to put down anyone, only to suggest something. I appreciate the clarification.

Edited by: <A HREF=http://p074.ezboard.com/bmnhs.showUserP ... eeAGENT at: 9/10/05 11:51 am

The put down I was referring to was your "thick skull" reply to another poster (which has since been edited).

Tell ya the truth, I kinda like the basic easy to navigate forums. I do wish they had the "go to the last unread post" button and got rid of the "post flooding", but overall I like them a lot. I like the way it is set up right now also. If there were two things to change, one would be to possibly to either get rid of some of the state forums that nobody really goes too (ie Wyoming), or move those type of states all into an other state category. The big ones, like Michigan and Massachusetts, are fine, but smaller ones like Wyoming, Utah, and Arizona don't get much action, if any. I would prefer my 2nd option, because then you can still talk Utah HS hockey, but I'm thinking most people on here don't know too much abuot Utah hockey.

The other would be getting rid of the poll forum and just be able to post a poll on any page. The majority of the people don't go to the poll forum very often- they usually are at the main forum or the Cafe. And I remember when I did my Ugliest Athlete poll, I wanted to put it in the Cafe, but couldn't so I put it on the poll forum, where it looked out of place. It was something that should have been in the Cafe. But those would be the only thing that I would look at. Otherwise, Mitch and Lee, I think you are doing a great job on the site, and I don't think we need to change the forum.
-------------------

Who is the orca? Who is the octopus? I will open the poll function in the cafe.

The reason it is disabled in the MN forum is that the poll topics were all moving to the top of the board anytime anyone voted, even if they did not post any comment. If that "feature" is ever fixed I will reconsider enabling polls in the MN Forum.

PS The Wyoming Forum has Polls!

Mitch, the Quick Links near the top were a great idea. It makes it a breeze to quickly change forums.

vBulletin? First, the software isn't free. True, it's cheaper than Gold Community, but it isn't server based. You need to also find a server to run the software on. My account with Powweb.com could handle it (I believe), but for a number of reasons, mostly personal, I prefer to not do that.

I think what we have here is good enough. Even better if we can raise the jack to keep Gold Community.

A quick plug; did you know that visits (which is what determines the Gold Community cost) don't count when an EZ Supporter visits our Board? I have EZ Supporter, and it's worth it. For just over a dollar a month, I can go to any community in the EZ system and don't have to endure the pop-up ads. While it's true that we don't have pop-ups since we're Gold here, it only applies to this Board. Other Boards one might wish to visit (and there are some pretty neat boards out there besides ours) may or may not be Gold, so hello to pop-ups on those Boards, unless you're a Supporter.

I recommend this to everyone. C'mon, we're talking about one less cup of coffee a month. Ten less miles of driving. Not even one box of popcorn at tDECC.

Lee
____________
Message Board arsonist since 2005
