Craig Dahl Resigns

Post by RLStars »

I know this is the HS forum, but needs to be posted.

St. Cloud, Minn. – St. Cloud State University Men’s Hockey Coach Craig Dahl has resigned his coaching position to enter private business. The announcement was made today by SCSU Director of Athletics Dr. Morris Kurtz. SCSU assistant coach Bob Motzko will assume the head coaching duties until a national search for a coach has been completed.

I heard this yesterday and was very surprised. Not so much at his leaving as we all make decisions to change careers, but as to the timing of it.

I wish him well in the private sector and appreciate the good job he did (and the use of a lot of MN kids).

Dahl

I am not so surprised by the timing. With Bob Motzko going up there earlier in the year, this is the best way to make sure he gets the job. No time for a search committee. I think this has been in the works since the end of last season.

That's a good take on it - but I would have thought he would give him a year to get settled, but its history now.

Is that why Wilner left to coach/GM the Junior A Blizzard?

I personally think that recruiting has fallen off in recent years and this will be a godd thing for SCSU. My only hope is that the recruiting is still going to take a close look at MN boys. Its nice having a Div. 1 team in Central MN that has guys playing that are well known in MN HS circles.

Serratore did a great job recruiting for SCSU when he was there. Now at BSU he does not do as much but backs his whole staff in their job of recruiting and it has shown in BSU success.

RL -

I don't believe that Wilner left of his own free will. Recruiting success (or lack thereof) had a hand in the parting of ways last spring from what I've heard.

Best of luck to Craig as he moves on. Time will tell if Motzko and his staff will improve the program.

I too thought Craig would finish out his contract with SCSU (what 2 more years) and then Motzko would move in as head coach. Thinking Craig has had a lot of heat lately and I agree with all of you that recruiting has been painfully inadequate.

I wish the best for Craig and his young family.

Nebraska-Omaha is also blessed with a coach from Dahls staff. SCSU Srs. are his last class. Should see some improvement at NO. Thought he would be in line to replace Dahl being a Huskey grad, must be happy at NO and the CCHA.

Here's the thing I don't get; at the uscho.com Fan Forum, there is barely restrained jubilation on the part of the Huskies fans that Craig is leaving. What's up with that? I mean, it's not like his teams never won a game in the NCAA Tournament.

Oh wait.....never mind

Lee
____________
Message Board arsonist since 2005

This guy is an epic poster. Little Falls is going back to State and the Huskies are dominant. I will definitely listen to his opinion all the time

Elk River AA State Champions- 2001 Boys & 2004 Girls
