Worst trade in NFL History?
This may be a bit premature and nobody can deny that Randy has a few issues with the team concept and off the field, but let's face it, the Vikings offense has scored one touchdown total in two games.

Their running game seems to have suffered most with opponents able to tighten up their defenses without worrying about the home run ball to Moss.

Randy Moss leads the NFL in receiving yards and has scored twice as many touchdowns as the entire Vikings offense.

Vikings fans shouldn't need to be told how bad the Herschel Walker deal was, but here is a link to an ESPN poll that lists that deal as the second worst in sports history, with only Boston selling Babe Ruth to the Yankees as a worse deal.

<a href="http://espn.go.com/poll/images/poll1061 ...

Results (total votes = 56):

Herschel Walker

32 / 57.1%

Randy Moss

18 / 32.1%

Other

6 / 10.7%

Re: Worst trade in NFL History?
As much as I hate the Moss deal and how it has crippled the Vikings, the Walker trade started the Cowboys on their dynasty run and turned them in "America's Team". We should have been able to get the same result as Dallas did when we traded Randy.
Elk River AA State Champions- 2001 Boys & 2004 Girls

Re: Worst trade in NFL History?
My favorite for worst in Minnesota history still is the Tom Brunansky for Tommy Herr deal. The Twins were world champs with no real need for a second baseman, while the Vikings were barely playoff teams when trade for Walker and deal for Moss happend. Plus Brunansky was part of the heart and soul of the Twins, Moss, great as he is, was not.

Re: Worst trade in NFL History?
The Moss trade isn't looking so bad today is it . The season is still early though. I do have to point out that the Raiders are 0-3.

Moss may end up being the best wide receiver to ever play the game and the trade still wouldn't be as bad as the Herschel Walker trade.

Trades
Its way too early to evaluate the Moss deal.

Remember boys, the Vikings were 8-8, 9-7, 6-10, and 5-11 with Moss the last 4 years.

Lets see how #19 and the rest of these guys play.

Quite frankly, with the recievers they have, and the added defensive talent.....I cant understand how losing Moss would materially effect the number of wins.

But the worst trade in NFL history? What ever the Falcons got for Brett Favre.

I hope the trade works out for them.

Nobody would be more pleased than me if the defense turns out to be much improved and the offense still puts up good numbers.

I honestly did not realize that their final records had been so bad for the last four years....rose colored glasses, I guess.

The Vikings always seem to tease us with some impressive wins and then fall apart in the end. 2003, 1998, and 1975 (not to mention the Super Bowls) stand out as just a few of the many painful season endings.

In 2003, I was watching the game in the back room of a bar (in Packer Country) with a few other Viking fans. Seemingly, the Vikings were playing well and had a playoff berth sewn up...but any Vikings fan that has been around for awhile could feel a bad vibe. Once the Packer game was over, the rabble came into the room and seemed genuinely shocked (as well as pleased) at the Vikings "series of unfortunate events" that led to them missing the playoffs. I was less shocked.

I am sure that those same Packer fans were shocked by last year's Viking playoff win in Lambeau

ER, I dont remember what the Dallas draft choices turned out to be but the Vikings deal Moss and pick up:

1 Fred Smoot

2. Darren Sharper

3. Troy Williamson

4. Pat Williams

5. Koren Robinson

6. Travis Taylor

7. Napolean Harris

To add this kind of talent to your football team ...I mean, it doesnt happen every day.

Maybe not all of these guys are here as a result of dumping Moss, but most of them.

Considering they have had a whole 1 winning season
(9-7) in the last 4 years of the Moss era, how does the trade do anything but make them better...on paper.

If they cant go 10-6 with the talent they have, there are other problems .........as in coaching.

Re: I post when I wanna post
The only thing Packer is that we could have gotten 80% of that without giving up Moss. We had so much cap room it was unbelieveable. We had already signed Pat Wiliams and were courting Smoot when we traded Moss. Moss's salary cap break that we got was mostly eaten up by Harris & Williamson. We could have gotten a LB in FA and I'm sure we still could have signed Sharper. Of Taylor, Robinson & Williamson we would only need one of those guys if we still had Moss, maybe not even one of them. I think the Moss for Defense is greatly overexaggerated because many people forget how much cap room we had going into the offseason because of how cheap Red was. Moss just adds that element that you can score on any play.
Elk River AA State Champions- 2001 Boys & 2004 Girls

Re: I post when I wanna post
It was rather complicated as to what happened with those draft picks which we traded to Dallas because they did a fair amount of wheeling and dealing post-trade, but this website outlines exactly what happened and what America's Crackwagon ended up with from the Walker deal:

...

Lee
____________
Message Board arsonist since 2005

Trading places
Thanks Lee. There is no question that the Walker trade was a bad trade for the Vikings. They gave up too much.

I agree that Moss adds something to an offense that very few, if any, players do. But the Vikings could not afford the luxury of a Moss anymore.

I dont know exactly how much talent they were able to add because of losing Moss's salary. What I do know is they have seriously upgraded the overall talent level of this team.

If Tice doesnt at leat get them to the playoffs, hire someone who can.

There is a guy down in Iowa City that I think could do a helluva job at the NFL level and I would love to see him on the Viking's sidelines even though I hate the Hawkeyes. Re: Trading places
I also hate the Hawkeyes, but gotta give credit were credit is due. Ferentz is an outstanding coach, and I would like him to be the coach a lot more than Tice. Tice isn't the person to get us deep into the playoffs- Ferentz can be that guy.

And the Walker trade was much worse. There is a lot of hope still for the guys we got in the Moss trade. And I like Williamson a lot. With Burly out, he needs to get more PT.
-------------------

Who is the orca? Who is the octopus? Re: Trading places
alright I love the hawkeyes and I'm pretty sure they're coach Mr. Kirk Ferentz will be staying there....on a different note, If tice is fired, I don't really care who the Vikes get just as long as he gets them in the playoffs......

Re: Trading places
The WORST TRADE in Minnesota history is something that I am not sure could be considered a trade.....

The MINNESOTA NORTH STARS being dealt down south to Dallas.. Don't get me wrong; I LOVE the Wild, but it was just wrong to leave Minnesota, the state of hockey, without a professional hockey team for however many years it was when there were 3 or 4 teams in California.
there'd be no hockey if the water wasn't FROZEN
