Lee, I must protest. I think that banning a high school is just fine because those kids are on a schools computer and that is a waste of a resource, but banning a college seems extreme and unfair. I am at college, and while I suppose you could say that I use the schools internet hook up, the computer I am using is all mine. Hopefully people will just stay respectful and it will not be an issue though.

First on the original question....It seems the average age of the posters is getting younger, of course I am also getting older so that may explain some of that. The lack of knowledge of the written language by some of our younger people actually frightens me somewhat. Don't schools teach about how to use a comma or the proper use of the words your, you're, their, there, and they're anymore? Besides that and the "your team sucks because mine rules" argument and some trolling, the board remains very entertaining. I guess one other negative would be the constant topics posted by some individuals rather than going to the second or third page to find the old one became tiresome. The 1AA/Century/Mayo etc. comes to mind as having a new topic devoted to the same thing about twice a day while the small school 1A people have had 2 topics in 2 years with well over 1000 posts in each. The reporting and opining that goes on in the 1A thread, for the second year in a row, continues to be almost wholly civil, and does a very good job of keeping people interested in that area up to date on goings on across the section on a nightly basis. The trolls are dealt with quickly even though neither of the administartors has a particular interest in South Central or Soutwest Minnesota hockey, and for that I thank them. Slapshooter and Petey1321 discusions were great, at times drawing myself of people like JLS81 into them, the difference I think between those and some that have gotten people banned was Slapshooter and Petey would call each other "names" but then back themselves up with references; more a difference in opinion than actual disrespect for the other. Plus there was substance in their arguments, not just blind devotion to Jefferson or some other cause which made great reading. I've been here since Feb. 2001 and though I miss some of the dearly departed I enjoy the newcomers who given time show thought, humor, and a genuine love for the game. People like EREmpire, Zamman, Knowlze, Bubba, Neutron, Slappy, Packerboy, Elliot, etc. people who like myself have a more detached interest as we no longer are in high school or have a kid in high school (maybe they do, but you can't tell from their posts) but still like to debate the topics of the day. That's what keeps me coming back year after year. So is it better or worse than years past, well, it's different and that's enough for me. Besides we'd be doing all the newbies a disservice if we didn't rehash some of the old debates every year, plus I like getting my closed eyes open by new opinions. Perhaps I am nitpicking, but it is hard and frustrating to read a post that lacks punctuation or structure. I know ERE has been quick to remedy the situation, but it seems to have plagued the board this year. That being said, there have been some new, engaging posters who have laid out intelligent posts. To go along with the usual suspects, it has made for another great year on the board. Another improvement was the elimination or banning of some of the users who come on just to bash other teams. I think we can thank Lee and Mitch for that.

goldy313, Yeah petey1321 was fun and presented his case very well! Your post was more along the lines of the kind of responses I was hoping for in starting this thread! Last time I looked this thread had over 2,500 views recorded in less than two days ! And that's after the High School season was completed! Why it's in the cafe this soon is beyond me! The cafe is gettin' to be a pretty good read though these days because of threads like this, but I've actually fallen asleep tryin' to find something on the main board of interest this season but especially so after the season was over! Maybe the cafe will take over as the place to be because at least in the cafe you usually can continue to post, but I have seen a topic get locked after being relegated to the cafe! <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/images/emoticons/laugh.gif ALT=":lol"> I was wondering if topics in the cafe disappear into oblivion when they fall off the end like the topics of old used to or do they end up in archives like most of the others?
