War of the Words ... by Orson Welles

Post by Stitch Lips »

Right as rain packerboy. The Crusades were expeditions undertaken, in fulfilment of a solemn vow, to deliver the Holy Places from Mohammedan tyranny. To seek out new civilizations ... to boldly go where no other team has gone before.

The origin of the word may be traced to the cross made of cloth and worn as a badge on the outer garment of those who took part in these enterprises. It had been noted that the army of the Holy Angels fell recently because they had not obeyed The Great ne.

Medieval writers use the terms crux (pro cruce transmarina, Charter of 1284, cited by Du Cange s.v. crux), croisement (Joinville), croiserie (Monstrelet), etc.

Since the Middle Ages the meaning of the word crusade has been extended to include all wars undertaken in pursuance of a vow, and directed against infidels, i.e. against Mohammedans, pagans, heretics, and all those who attend public schools; or even those under the ban of excommunication (i.e. Below 0 Zero, Bluesbuddy and Videoscout).

The wars waged by the Mighty Raiders of Cretin against the Cadets of St. Thomas constituted a continual crusade from January to February earlier this year; the northern crusades were organized against the Prussians and Lithuanians; the extermination of the Denfeld heresy was due to a crusade at the hands of Duluth Marshal, and, in the other bracket the popes preached crusades against Proctor at the hands of St. Cloud Cathedral. But modern literature has abused the word by applying it to all wars of a religious character, as, for instance, the expedition of Breck against St. Paul Como Park and the conquest of Mahtomedi by Totino Grace.

Totino saw one-time ally Breck, as a threat in their quest for a state title so they ambushed the # 1 seed and earned the right to take on another crusader, Blake for the right to represent the city of Minneapolis at the Saintly City in mid-March. There will be hell to pay for the team that loses that game.

To the south we had a representative from Rochester (Lourdes) who tried in vain to topple a much stronger army in that of St. Thomas Academy. The Tommies will try valiantly to knock of those pesky Red Wing Blackbirds as they march toward the excellent energy centre.

Lest we forget Holy Family that tried so desperately to pull a "David vs. Goliath" stunt when they upset St. Michael, BIAFP's patron saint ... and then shocked # 2 seed Shakopee, only to fall short to # 3 seed Orono, pagans in their own right ... on a crusade of their own ... to stop all private armies advancement strategies.

In the bigger arena ... our brothers, Benilde-St. Margaret's nearly beat a heavily armed platoon in that of Bloominton Jefferson. Much to their credit though ... they battled with grit and determination only to be given the shaft by the false prophets (two referee's and one linejudge).

But there still is hope for the final showdown to showcase two great armies in that of Cretin-Durham Hall and Hill-Murray. Each in their own right ... having combined two smaller armies (St. Paul Hill and St. Paul Murray) into one more powerful (St. Paul Cretin and Durhan Hall) and efficient skating machine(s).

The idea of the crusade corresponds to a political conception which was realized in Christendom only from the last quarter century (1975 ... when the MSHSL allowed such contests to be held); this supposes a union of all peoples and sovereigns under the direction of the popes. All crusades were announced by preaching (such as recent declarations by packerboy).

After pronouncing a solemn vow, each warrior received a cross from the hands of the pope or his legates, and was thenceforth considered a soldier of the Church. Crusaders were also granted indulgences and temporal privileges, such as exemption from civil jurisdiction, inviolability of persons or lands, etc. Of all these wars undertaken in the name of Christendom, the most important were the Eastern Crusades, thus ... is the reason the final battles are to be waged in the Saintly City of St. Paul, rather than the old west at the Met Center.

It has been customary to describe the Crusades as eight in number:

* the first, is a region referred to as Section 1;
* the second, is an area referred to as Section 2;
* the third, Section 3;
* the fourth, Section 4;
* the fifth, Section 5;
* the sixth, Section 6;
* the seventh, Section 7;
* the eighth, which is considered "Up for Grabs" is section 8.

Section 8 has very much "in-fighting" going on at this time. Some believe this to be at the hands of a group called the Shady Bunch, from which I'm sure you are well aware.

Some say the Shady Bunch is somewhat like a 'skull and crossbones' type of organization that has representatives in all cities across the land, from Mendota Heights to Warroad; from Erskine to Brainerd; from International Falls to Rochester, from coast to coast (art bell), and east to west.

The group is growing and there's not a darn toot'in thing that you, me or the rest of the pagans can do about it.

It's a fact of modern life that goes against the grain of those who believe these games aren't really up for grabs.

The battles will unfold in the Saintly City and we will see which teams will hoist the holy graille.

I suspect it will be filled with some Johnny Walker Black

Edited by: <A HREF=http://p100.ezboard.com/bmnhs.showUserP ... ips>Stitch Lips at: 3/2/06 10:21 am
