Its actually 5 for the last 30 or so, which wouldnt mean much. But back to back and 3 out of the last 5 might go against the grain of many a fine phobic herein.

Even if those five are eliminated ... that still makes 35 in the last 61 years.

From 1945 to 1974 ... they won every single (30 of them) Independant State Championship!! Plus the 5 "big show" ones you refer to.

Pretty good accomplishment considering that the hockey elite considers the Independant Champions were Superior to the Public School Champion back then.

I've got the proof sitting right in my office. As a matter of fact ... I'm looking at two undefeated trophies as I type this ... Roseau wins State Championship with a record of 23-4 in 1946; two of the four losses were at the hands of Crookston Cathedral. In the 1967 State 'Public' Tournament ... Greenway wins the championship behind the performance of Mike Antonovich, with Hibbing having the second best team in the public tournament and Duluth Cathedral, which snapped the International Falls streak of 58 straight victories (sans Grand Forks games being included in their 'record'), beat both Greenway and Hibbing by at least 3 goals that season while going undefeated against all Minnesota challengers that year.

Guess who beat them.

Grand Forks Railroad of course.

Privates have always been better. Yes Slappy ... this is true. You won't find any jerseys of those private schools that existed hanging in the Xcel either. Another example of 'MSHSL' not doing their homework.

Can't blame Mr. Gilbert though. He's just a writer going on the limited info. given to him. Besides, from what I understand ...
