You guys are so predictable. Minnesota doesn't win the National Championship and you all are 'offended ' by a remark from one man that sends you all into <a href="http://www.orbitz.com">orbitz.com</a>. What part of his comment don't you accept? "Minnesota has lost the right to be called the State of Hockey and it now belongs to Wisconsin?" This comment couldn't be any more true. For the season ... 2006 ... this is an absolute truth. How in the world could Minnesota make such a claim if they lost the National title to Wisconsin in both the men's and women's divisions? 5 D-1 programs in Minnesota against 1 D-1 program in Wisconsin: Wisconsin bypasses all 5 from Minnesota. Where is the argument here? Okay ... they passed that criteria. The world's greatest High School Teams. What a joke. Mitch is right. How arrogant for you all to make such a claim. What makes you think that Russia's 17-18 year olds are any less talented than measly Minnesota's "rookies" at the same age. Take a long hard look at who's entering the NHL at what ages. Tiny little Finland puts up more numbers. Sweden's not far behind. Get a grippo boys. Your naivety is gonna get you in a fix. "The most prestigious high school tourney in the world." Another joke. Who gives a rip? The washed up boneheads from Minnhock? Keep stroking your egos because you are the only ones that give a rip in the whole wide world. That same world that is a tiny speck in our 10-planet galaxy, that is a tiny speck in this region of the universe. I'm sure the 17-18 year olds in any mideastern nation are particularly concerned with which high school team is the best in the United States. Especially since they're primary concern is about surviving the next day. The season is done. Ask that ERDarthVaporstrikesOut guy who is trying to get more posts than flapshooter ... where the Elks are hiding. Move on. Hockey is nothing more than a mere fragment of your imagination (according to 99.9 % of the rest of the world). Get over it. We've got other things to be concerned about. That guy from the Shanty is right on. Vigilance is a virtue.

Wisconsin wouldn't win anything without Minnesota hockey. Hell, the GWG was scored by a Minnesota boy. Even their greatest hockey coach (Bob Johnson) was a Minnesotan. If it weren't for Minnesota, Wisconsin hockey wouldn't even be on the map. Wisconsin is about as much of a hockey state as Louisiana is. <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/images/emoticons/laugh.gif ALT=":lol"> People should laugh it off. By your logic ... Minnesota wouldn't have won their last National Championship without the aid of North Dakota hockey players. I'll accept that. Wisconsin is simply the best this year. Wisconsin is the State of Hockey this year. Wild didn't do Jack Ship. Gophers folded up like a cheap card table. Badger women dominated. Wisconsin Men were the best in the beginning and in the end. Well SS, I dont know what Snake has been drinkin ...maybe a little jack...but he has identified a disturbing trend on the bored this year. Recall, if you will, the flap about Fargo's team beating Moorhead and the denial that ensued form the Minny supremacists. I think we have some blocking abd denial going on about the succees of the cheeseheads. Lucia's boys got schooled in heart and hustle by the Catholics. The Wisconsin women took it to the Gophers straight up. The Wisconsin men beat the Catholics for the title. Id say there is some blocking and denial going on. The Snake hasnt been drinkin any Holy Water....but maybe a drop or 2 of Communion wine.<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/images/emoticons/laugh.gif ALT=":lol">

True passion for the game is seen at the HS levels in Minnesota. Hell, even Dallas sells out for the NHL playoffs. There are large fan bases for college hockey in many cities. How many states though sell out an NHL arena for the HS state tournament. That is true passion that can't be matched anywhere, especially lowly Wisconsin where most of the population doesn't even like hockey or know what it is. Sure Russia and other places have good talent at the same level. But a state should be labeled "the State of Hockey" based on talent and PASSION for the game. No area on the planet exudes the passion for the game that Minnesota does.

Its hard to quantify how popular hockey is in Minnesota. We point to the state tournament but what about the rest of the season. How many arenas are sold out for a regular season HS hockey game? A lot more people go to a high school football game. The Wild have done great since they were formed. But the North Stars failed twice and had to merge with another team before leaving because of lack of interest. The Fighting Saints folded. Gopher fans are great but as GR19 points out there are a lot of college hockey hotbeds. So , do we get to be "the State of hockey" because of our 4 day high school tournament? You can't compare hockey with football. Most football teams only play four or five home games, while many hockey teams will play more than fifteen. If hockey teams played a nine game season, the bulk of them would sell out in the competetive programs. Hockey is by far the most attended sport in the state... Bar none! Wisconsin is no where near Minnesota in producing quality hockey players. Their state champions would have a tough time winning any of the sectional tournaments in Minnesota. Superior has won the state tournament in Wisconsin several times, and never wins the Lake Superior Conference and nearly always gets beaten by the better Minnesota teams up north. Just because they won two collegiate championships in one year in hockey doesn't mean much. One was woman's hockey, in which this is the first year that a Minnesota team did not win the NCAA championship.... ever. And the men's team doesn't have the homegrown talent (exactly half of their roster is from Wisconsin) like the Gophers do (20 of 26 are Minnesotans). Look around the WCHA- and the rest of college hockey for that matter- and nearly every team has a handful of Minnesotans on it and very few have even one player from Wisconsin. To top things off, they don't even have their own pro team. All you have to do is look at this message board as an example. There is no where near the participation for any other state... anywhere! The North Stars failed because they disrespected the hockey heritage of this state. They were too distant from their fans. The Wild succeed because they embrace our great history, they embrace the passion of Minnesota's fans, and they embrace the heart of this passion which is youth hockey. How many years did I live in Minnesota? 22 How many years in Alaska? Almost 3 Where was I born? Bemidji Where do all of my relatives live? Minnesota 50% of Alaska's population is? former Minnesotans slapshooter, how much money do you spend each year going to the HS tourney's? This year I spent $2500.00 to come all the way from Alaska to support Grand Rapids. I think I deserve a little more respect.
