I don't think we need to prove anything. Everyone on the planet KNOWS minnesota has the best overall hockey in the USA. I say, let the likes of cheddarhead be and stay jealous.

Don't really think it is jealousy larsey. You have to remember I have stated time and time again MN hockey is above WI hockey when it comes to high school and youth hockey. I grew up on a boarder city in WI, we always played Twin Cities youth programs, I always went to MN for summer hockey camps, played my Junior Hockey in Canada and then my college career in MN. I understand MN hockey, the culture and the pride they have in it. I moved back to WI after I graduated and one more year in MN. I was very impressed with the overall improvemnet of WI hockey when I came back. The gap is closing and if all you can do is bash WI hockey and sit back and say how great MN hockey is, well then you will watch other states pass you right by.

Like I said 10 years ago you would have been hard pressed to find 14 WI kids in D-1 hockey accross the country, now you have 14 on one team and they won a National Championship.

So, we are the "State of Hockey" because:

a. Stanley Cup championships won by present team and the one that went to Dallas.

b. Have won way more NCAA's championships than Wisconsin.

c. All the top American born NHL players are from Minnesota.

d. We have more youth players than Michigan.

e. Clever maketing firm was hired by the Wild.

Ther is only one correct answer.

One more year...one more year...one more year.

I think losing Culpepper was a good move on your guys part and if you get Schaub from Atlanta you guys could do some damage this year. Shored up your line with a good guard...baring any whizanator incidents or boat parties you guys have three decent running backs, no studs but a nice committee. Believe me my hatred for the Queens run as deep as it does for the Goofers..so by saying that I might just have to hurt myself.

state of hockey?

Post by pucker33 »

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but minnesota is gonna lose this 'state of hockey' title. Minnesota hockey is starting to become way to political for its own good. Look for states like Michigan to take the title soon. The hockey in the other states just seems to be better.

Its my opinion, you have your own

State of hockey

Blade06 makes a good point. Also, look at all the young talent comming up the ranks. These kids are exceling at a awesome rate and, hockey in MN. (to me anyway) has got me "way" excited for the next several years.

What fuels these youth programs in MN? Is it the culture of hockey in the state? The other sports at that time of year just not as appealing to the kids as hockey is? ( I would say yes here).

Well the Goofers won't have to worry about Earl any more. He signed with Toronto. Hopefully we can keep Elliot for one more year.

Chedderhead, I gotta respect the fact that you are interested enough in MN hockey to read and post on this board. While I think there is provincialism and politics within MN hockey, people are very fanatic about the game. The fact that the high school tournament sells out, there are five D-1 college programs within the state and an NHL team that sells out despite missing the playoffs shows how deep it runs here.

I have always had respect for MN hockey. I grew up playing against Twin Cities teams my whole life in youth hockey. When I was in school I used to come down with MN State High School hockey flu for the week when the tourney was on.

I was just getting irked by some of the ignorant comments that were popping up in this thread so I had to put my two slices of cheese into the mix. Lots of good info on this message board if you can weed through some of the muck. Wisconsin has a very nice site for hockey in thier state also. Good in depth coverage of the conferences and the teams.

Would Wisconsin being called the state of hockey be considered an offensive post that should be reported?

I actually kind of like it, so it is not offensive to me.

I know Team Wisconsin won thier first game at the Chicago Showcase 3-2 over Team New Jersey. Shot were like 37 to 18 or something in favor of the Cheese. I think they play Team Michigan tonight. Don't know how the 'Sota boys did.

I dont understand how they can say they are the state of hockey because they won a national championship.

Wasn't their best player from California?
