Northern Hockey
Northern Teams are still not getting enough credit. Greenway Bantam A's knocked off Rosemont the first game of the season. They beat up Alexandria and Hastings and have taken it to Hermantown twice. Watch out. The North will never have the number of good teams the cities have, but they will have a few. Warroad, Roseau, Hibbing, and even Virgina might pull off a win.

Edited by: <A HREF=http://p100.ezboard.com/bmnhs.showUserP ... yhockey at: 1/13/06 8:15 pm

Re: Northern Hockey
hey gwayhockey im sorry to tell you, but once you start playing the top teams from the cities like edina, orono, white bear lake, & centennial you will know why northern hockey doesnt get as much credit it....yeah there still may be some really good northern teams, but the best team u guys have played are jefferson and roseau and you lost to both those teams...lets put it this way ..u guysd lost to roseau, and edina beat roseau 7-1...now im not going to compare you guys by scores or anything, but i think you better start beatin the best of the best before you start askin for more attention up north........

- The JAG -

Re: Northern teams
ok greenway we have beat you every time we have played you exept 2 times and we beat hastings 3-0 and alexandria to we only lost by 3 aginst moorhead and d.e. isnt that great we went into 5 ots with you guys

Re: Northern teams
Hibbing is better than Greenway, no doubt. If it wasn't for Underwood Greenway would b about average

Re: Northern teams
westin now you're giving us credit?

Greenway
VHS,

Greenway is extremly under average. They would be in the bottom 2 in pretty much every single metro district(2,3,6,8,10). They may be an average team for up north though, but not in the state.

--When the going gets tough, the tough gets going--

Re: Greenway
Hey VHS listen to the Orono kid because they know all about what average is.... You guys have one good season in a 100 years and now your an expert on the success of associations from around the state? Kid Greenway is a better than average team...If you aren't careful they have a pretty good goalie too, don't be surprised if you run into them.

Re: Greenway
ya im giving you guys credit. you are better than greenway no doubt about it.

Re: Greenway
HAHAHAHAHA...Duluth, we beat them 9-1 about 2 weeks ago(shots were also somewhere in the 55-8 range). Just thought I'd throw that in there. Their goalie is solid, but I wouldn't say he is outstanding. And one good year in 100 years? Not so sure I would go that far either, but that's your opinion and your more than welcome to it.

It's all good

--When the going gets tough, the tough gets going--
Edited by: <A HREF=http://p100.ezboard.com/bmnhs.showUserP ... north kids...
... it is esier to take someone out when they do not see you coming...

...if repsect is something you are looking for from the metro kids (it si not important) then beat them.

... metro kids - not every game you win in D6, 8, 2, 10 etc...
is a tough win. Granted there are more tough teams around, but there are moer teams around.

For the last 15 years approxiamtely 5.5% of all players (A & B) from D16 have gone on to play division 1 hockey. Is the percentage that high from the metro area???

Re: north kids...
Elliot,

That is a very interesting stat your bring up. First of all, is Northern hockey as strong now as it has been in the past? I don't see any Sertich's,Houser's,Guyer's coming out? Although, you have Lee and Oshie who are both making big impacts on their team as freshman. As well as Goligoski and Gordon on the Gophs as sophomores.
By the way, did Sertich and Guyer ever play together? If so, that team must have been something.

As for the numbers, the amount of players playing in the metro area is much greater than northern Minnesota. Therefor, the percentage of players going D1 I'm sure is much lower. That's a very impressive stat that you brought up. Good to know.

--When the going gets tough, the tough gets going--

Re: north kids...
mnlight,

That is not an opinion, that is pretty much fact, when was the last an Orono Bantam/Peewee team did anything??? You can't name one, because there wasn't one. I'm not saying you guys aren't good, but you better have a little more respect for your peers than that. Greenway is a good team, with a solid goaltender, I wouldn't underestimate them, just in case you see them a month after the last time you played. Let's see if you guys can earn your way through to the tourney now that you are playing with the big boys, instead of that cake Silver Region that you have been in, in the past.

To be honost I wonder if Orono would make it out of the Gold Region. Replace Little Falls with them...Think they would even get a play in game with Roseau, Duluth East and Greenway? Probably, but it isn't as easy now that you look at it is it?

Re: north kids...
Well about 4 or 5 years back Orono Bantam A's took the consolation title. 2 years ago as peewee's we went to state but lost 1-0 to White Bear and 5-4 in OT to Centennial. As for the high school they have been rather successful the past 6 or 7 years. 2nd and 3rd in state respectively a few years back. Granted that is A. As for your comment on the Gold Region, we have played Duluth East(4-1 win),Hibbing(8-2 win),Greenway(9-1 win), Hermantown(6-0 win),those are the only teams competing in the gold region that we have played. We have not played either Roseau or Moorhead though, both being very good teams.

Also, I don't see respect as the issue. It's not a disrespectful comment to say that I THINK they are a below average team STATE WIDE. Disrespectful would be, "God they blow, absoultely terrible, why do they even bother playing." That would be disrespectful. I didn't say that, nor would I. So, there is no need to lecture me. One more thing, I happen to know alot about bantam hockey around the state, seeing that a go to ALOT of games and spent a good amount of time on this board. Yet, again no need to lecture me.

It's all good duluthhocey

--When the going gets tough, the tough gets going--
Edited by: <A HREF=http://p100.ezboard.com/bmnhs.showUserP ... Re:Duluthhockeyfan
Duluthhockeyfan, you talk about other people and their supposed lack of respect and then you throw out the comment "cake Silver Region". Well it happen's that I coach a team that is vieing for a spot in the Silver Region and I have no grandeaur vision of that being anything different than it is, but I find your verbage very disrespectful. You should look both way's before crossing the street. Orono is very good and they have been developing a very good tradition in the last few year's.

Edited by: <A HREF=http://p100.ezboard.com/bmnhs.showUserP ... joshdog at: 3/1/06 6:09 pm

Silver Region
Granted the Silver region does not include many of the top teams but I think you have to respect teams like New Prague/Owatanna/Buffalo and others...Buffalo did play several top teams tying Eden Prarie and Jefferson and easily beating Wayzata while losing in OT to Osseo and pushing Orono well into the third period before losing...Granted 10 teams in the state would be a clear cut favorite in the region...but it's getting bettter and I would imagine the winner of the region will not be as embarrased in state as you think...Orono came from D5 and last year finished third in the district...this year they won d3...granted some teams in the district arfe very behind but there are a few worth playing.

Re: Regions
Every year things change a little MN Lightning I am happy for your teams success this year and am glad you moved to district 3 to compete. I would be interested in finding out if anyone can give me the last two times a silver region team won a game in the state tournament on the winners side of the brackett. I am not making a point about weakness but rather my point is about the State Tournament and the new Region formats.
The MN hockey board last summer changed the format for the regions to get to the state tournament. The new format has Duluth and the rest of district 11 competing with district 2 and 10 next year. This region will send 2 teams to the state tournament. Districts 12 (IRC), 15, and 16 will be another region with two teams advancing. The following year it all changes. There is a set rotation where the northern districts are being mixed in with Twin Cities districts to qualify for State on a random basis.
I believe there are 2 significant problems with this:
1) How and why did this change before redistricting occurred? Was this topic a discussion point? Was the North represented in the committee meetings that developed this format? (and if northern district directors were assigned to this committee and did not attend it still means the north was not represented and their input should have been solicited. The north directors should have had the opportunity to discuss with their associations and been able to give feedback. I dont think the northern directors before a vote was taken on an unanounced motion at the summer of 2005 meeting ever had any opportunity to disagree or submit an alternative (which I will suggest below).
Can anyone think this was a good process? I have spoken to several coaches from the north and they were not even aware of the new setup until last week. Does not seem "right".
2) By rotating the northern team into the Twin Cities districts you take a large risk that northern MN hockey will not be represented at the State Tournaments by their best teams! For instance next year District 11 which includes a perennial state top team in Duluth East competes against District 2 and 10. while 12, 15, and 16 play up north. Duluth is not a southern team and you could comprimise not having the best team from the north not being at state because they could get knocked out by perennial top 5 teams White Bear and Centennial even though they might win the northern region. The next year perennial power Moorhead plays against the Twin Cities districts, the next year it might be Roseau and a Duluth team competing against these Districts.
The solution mentioned previously on a post: Have the northern teams play down in the same format they do now. Have the 3rd team from the north play the winner of District 4 and 5 for G-3 and give G-4 to a team from the Maroon Region.
Have a better process to insure input from the coaches and representatives from the North as well as the Metro.
Remember the game is for the kids!
Lets discuss!
