i dont like cuz it can ruin ur chances of goin to districts or staying home. cuz like checking from behind the fair play is gone and it penalizes the team and it should only penalize that player. but those are just my thoughts.

I'm not a big fan of fair play points but they were MUCH better last year when they didn't charge the checking from behind a full 12 minutes.

I think that a better solution would be to leave all penalties at 2 minutes (as far as HEP points) and KICK a player out of a game for checking from behind. If you want the message to get out that we won't accept that penalty, kicking them out will really stop that without penalizing the 'team' in the standings. In D6, we ended up having the fair play point decide our ultimate league winner.

Get kicked out for a checking from behind? thats malarke, i'd say most checking from behinds aren't intended to injure that certain person, most are accidents, it is just something that happens, sorry but getting kicked out for that should not happen.

The fair paly points are niether here nor there with me. This season I coached a Pee Wee B hockey team and we were generally head and shoulders bigger than all the teams we played. Although we did not lose a fair play point all season we still played physical. The big thing is discipline. If you are skating, moving your feet, you won't take the trippings, hookings, interfereces, etc. Discipline. If the players are taught how to check or avoid checkes they don't take the stupid penalties. Discipline. We were very physical and ended up with a winning record regardless of FPP. Disipline. I am proud of my boys they would not retaliate with a cheap shot they would come back with a good, clean, hard check, or just put points on the board on the power play.Discipline

I think the FPP rule needs to be tweaked. The biggest problem seems to be the "checking from behind" call? A true "checking from behind" is very dangerous and could result in serious injury. The problem is many of the referees are calling this penalty everytime a kid loses an edge or gets bumped forward. A team can play a clean penalty free game and lose their fair play point on that one questionable call? And yes, it could cost that team a chance at the post season. I'd like to see the checking from behind changed to a five minute power play and the team lose 5 team minutes instead of the present 12 minutes (2 plus 10). Now if its a true "checking from behind" the referee's should have the option to throw the kid out of the game if they view it as intentional.

It also needs to be changes so that a too many men on the ice penalty doesn't count against the team. Thats just stupid. Or when you trip a player on a breakaway, thats just good hockey and what you are taught to do.

How fair is it when the kids gets hurt in a game, say broken arm. Wow how FAIR is that fair play point now when he/she is out for weeks?
If you want fair play, the kid that did the crime should not be able to play till the injured child can come back and play.
THAT WOULD BE FAIR!

I agree with icypalms. This is a tough game and you need to play tough to be a good team. With the refereeing being horse-poop all year, get rid of the fair play points, and fire the persons that came up with the idea!!!

He was hit from behind and hurt pretty baddly. I think we need to get bigger STOP patches - or make them reflective so you get blinded by them if you get too close.

I checked the standings and my sons squirt team finished higher in the seedings than they should have because of fair play points, then again, they don't keep score for squirts in the TC district, so whats the (fair play) point.

fair play

Post by mnwild »

Is it fair come play off time for a team with a #1 or #2 seed to have to play a team that would've been a 3 or 4 seed in the first round but because a team lost several fair play points during the year finished in the seven or eight spot.. It happend this year in our district and the higher seed got bumped out of the first round?? Now you punished a team for earning their seed with having to play a team with more skill but may take a few more penaltys.. Bottom line is that you are not just punishing the team who lost their fair points.

It's time for your team to buck-up little buckoroo. You probably did beat those teams in the regular season and now with no special points you can't do it now.
HEP sucks but you are stuck with it because DR Kavorkian from the Mayo clinic said so.

Was not kidding, I'm not talking the 2-10 from behind.

Why should some child have their fun/ hopes for a FAIR competition destroyed because of a blatant display of another?
Don't get me wrong, it does not happen allot! Surely over the years there has been a Five minute handed out at some time when you been to a game. With injury it a automatic Game too! So this is not a tought call!

But the kid that 4 feet from the boards, no puck in sight and taken into the boards. Sure this player get's a FIVE and only the rest of that game from the stands. While the child down get a stunning, damaging, or shattering effect from a hard blow. Another words " CONCUSSION! This player out for what Three (3) weeks? FAIR?
Slash the fractures a player, FAIR?
Send a mesage! It will clean itself over the years to come.

We have the data, each District has the score sheets that would show how manny game injury penilties where handed out this year.

Allot of kids get hurt playing clean physical hockey. This is the norm in all sport with contact. That will not change, it's the game, the way the game is played.

Just make it fair to the kids that work hard and sometimes become a target for there abilities or inability

I have to agree, fair play points or not, if you can't play hockey, you can't play hockey.

they changing hockey from old time when theywould lay people out now there trying to keep it so clean. if you get a checking from behind it almost demolishes your chances of your fairplay poin and that could be your districts gone right there

There is no such thing as Fair Play, I seen a Highland team set picks which is illeagal, hold, hook and the refs just turn there heads. Highland is Saint Paul's Team.

Note from District Director:

The misconception that the refs are responsible for awarding/"penalizing" (taking away) of the fair play point is WRONG. The refs call the game the way they always have. At the end of the game penalties minutes are added up. If the minutes exceed the maximum set for that level the offending team does not EARN their fair play point. Both teams do not start with a fair play point and get it taken away. Both teams start with no fair play point and it is EARNED by minimizing penalties and good spectator behavior. Accounting of this is done by the MINOR official NOT the refs.

fair play

Post by tjhd5 »

ya, the coaches and players catch on quick.. i have seen teams that know they are going to lose the fair play point in the first or second period, go out and try to take the other team down with them,,,, MN Hockey sold out to the Mayo Clinic on this one and our kids have to pay the price. What happens if Larry Flint comes along and offers money to Mn hockey to do a study , will they take him up on that

I think each penalty should be worth one point it should be about 6 or 7 points to lose the fair play point.
