Re: fair play
It is not fair to make a whole team of good kids suffer for one players mistake of a check from behind. We had an "A" Pee Wee game against Washburn and did not have one penalty until about 5:00 minutes left in the game and one of our players took a check from behind which I thought was questionable but none the less the ref called it. The score is now 6 to 2 with 10 seconds left and the Washburn player is coming out of his zone along the right side, At the red line our player back checking reached for the Washburn player knocking down and a tripping penalty was called. There go's the HEP point and yhey say refs don't determine these points.
Sorry they control everything when on the ice.

fair play points
i think that rule is really stupid. we lost most of our points and our position in our region because of that. we had the best record, but the fair play points killed us.

Re: fair play points
this is really dumb because in the south most refs call anything that is close enough to penalty. most of the time it isnt but they think in their own eyes it is. and when you play more games up north, a lot of the refs let things go unless they really did something wrong.

Re: fair play points
The entire rule book is open for intrepretation by the reader which in turn effects the outocme of HEP points.

There will never be a consistent calling of the game by refs because of the understanding, egos, and education (if that exists) from district to district.

But until there is a new hockey board, HEP will not be going away.

Edited by: <A HREF=http://p100.ezboard.com/bmnhs.showUserP ... troll21 at: 3/1/06 2:29 pm

Re: fair play points
I agree, that there is too much left open for refs to READ into.

But once again, MAHA hockey isn't to blame.

We need to be more consistant - ALL LEAUGE GAMES - ALL TOURNAMENT GAMES - ALL PLAYOFF GAMES - ALL STATE PLAYOFF GAMES

USE HEP FAIR PLAY POINTS

Think about how that would stir it up.

You take one too many in the playoffs (even if you won the game) but you don't get to go on.

Edited by: <A HREF=http://p100.ezboard.com/bmnhs.showUserP ... dan2036 at: 3/1/06 4:53 pm

Re: fair play points
HEP is not a USA Hockey Program.

Re: fair play points
At least this year the mouth guard call isn't a 10 min penalty. Last year we had 2 (home) refs that called it at least every game. At seasons end we tied points with another team but lost chance to go to districts because tie breaker was the fair play point - too many mouth guard calls! What a rip. This year one of our smallest PWA (under 80 lbs) skates past opposing big player bumping him in the side, ref called check from behind. The big kid didn't even move, probably didn't even know the little guy bumped him. We've had a couple questionable calls such as that that just seem unfair especially if you win more games but loose your spot for districts because of the fpp.

fair play points
Mn Hockey was the only one in the nation to do this, nobody else... and they wouldnt have done it unless the Mayo clinic had not given them a big check,,, HEY, MN HOCKEY i hope you are reading what the people are saying here. Dont waste your time and money going around the state to sell this anymore, heck a used car salesman would have a hard time selling this

Re: fair play points
You are right, HEP is not from USA hockey.
I cleaned up the post.

I do think that HEP and fairplay points are a result of a problem that has gotten out of control. The aggression that more and more parents and players are showing.

I'll be the first one to cheer for a big clean hit or physical play, but don't you think it started with the stop patch and just kept going?

Stop patch - Fair play points - NEXT????

IN canada the only thing I've seen them change is the neckguard rule (have to have one).

Oh wait, all of Canada youth hockey has fair play points too.
Sorry, now I'm stuck. Don't know what to say.

Re: fair play points
HEP - Hockey Education Program

The idea was to have HEP accomplish 3 major things.

1. Educate - parents, players and coaches in the area of being less volatile, more civil.

2. Develop players with standardize measurements for the use of local associations and coaches that would be tabulated and available to see if kids were improving (within the association and across teh state).

3. Get the overly aggresive, violent play out of the game.

Number 3. is where Fair Play Points was to come in. Fair Play was to be used as a device to measure whether the education of players, coaches, parents ws being successful.

Unfortunatley, Fair Play has become HEP.

Re: fair play points
Is it true that Canada youth hockey has Fair Play points?

I have found a few places that mention it in a few cities, but I don't think it is countrywide.

I would think that we would have heard about it here in the States if THE country where hockey is born runs it like that.

Re: fair play points
There are several leagues in Quebec that use Fair Play.

Re: Gildan
Gildan, all of Canada doesn't use FPP's. CAHA is made up of many smaller organization's similar to USA Hockey. You think in a PW regional game to go to state that a team with 1 CFB penalty and a tripping penalty as 2 kid's go for a puck should not go on even if they beat a team that has 6 roughing penalties? Your take on FPP's is out there. Where is all this over zealousness going on that it has to be cleaned up?

Re: Gildan
Fair play, who ever came up with this idea must have made alt opf money.
Maybe I can get a grant to see if girl hockey players should change in the same lockeroom as boys.
Maybe I can go through the Mayo clinic and make millions through Minnesota Hockey. Can you say kickback, cause that what I am seeing!!!!!

Re: Gildan
I am not in favor of fair play,
I was trying to be sarcastic about how it really isn't FAIR, and because it only applies to a certain part of the season. I wish they would do away with it and play real hockey again.

Re: Gildan
I'm not either.

Let the players decide the game. It's bad enough that you can go one or two men short for a pen., but then you have to take fake points away from the team because they did something that is in the rule book.

Maybe this could be challenged by each association. If it isn't in the rule book for hockey, you can't call it.

fair play points
lets be honest here.. without the fair play the Mayo Clinic would not have given the money to Mn Hockey. It was their little pet project and Mn Hockey fell for it even after other sports organizations in this state refused it... If HEP has become Fair play then take the fair play out of HEP....... Oh thats right the money would not be there.... SO. why then have the other parts of HEP have not followed through with.. Another example of MN Hockey dictating on what needs to be done,{ re: stop patches and blue puck} Do you ever think you will see the day that Texas will determine the football standings by the amount of penalties in a football game... or Indiana saying if a basketball player Fouls out of the game they will lose points in the standings because he ws overly aggresive,,,, JEE.. MN Hockey must think we are all abunch of idiots . LETS GIVE HOCKEY back to the kids and let the goals scored determine who is where.. Only adults could have screwed something like this up.

Re: fair play points
The Mayo Clinic did not provide any money to MN Hockey.

Re: fair play points
If there was someway to seperate the injury potential penalties and the behavioral penalties from the others than maybe there woud not be so many upset, but getting the minor officials to understandwould be a major chore.A holding or interference should not count the same as a slash or cross check. The other part to educate the parents to display better behavior is a work in progress the hope is the other parents will help settle down the trouble makers. Look at the Zero Tolerance policy of USA Hockey take out the Fair Play points and you might see a similarity, except in Mn Hockey league play you can be rewarded also instead of only being penalized.

FPP
Mark,
What is the budget for HEP? Any truth to the rumor that MN Hockey fines are now funding that program too? It seems to be a huge cash cow?

Re: fair play points
RIGHT ON, I like that way of putting it.

Hey, Elliot70-
If this isn't about money, why can't we get rid of the (un)fairplay points and keep the HEP stuff. I mean we have a HEP Director in our association and She was laughed out of the meeting at the begninng of the year because of the fair play, but we got some where with the parent stuff.

Re: fair play points
HEP's budget for the intital project and first year was approximately $250,000.

I believe this year the budget was around $100,000 (do not remember exactly).

EDIT
Fines are directed by the President to whatever budget.
This is mute as the budget for one or all come from the general fund (our only fund at the moment).

Edited by: <A HREF=http://p100.ezboard.com/bmnhs.showUserP ... liott70 at: 3/2/06 2:42 pm
