what are the advantages of moving an 8th grader from bantams to the j.v. team?

I think it's a terrible decision to play high school your 8th grade year unless your jordan schroder. play bantams and get the 60 games in.

never say never, but it is a very, very rare case when any kid should skip bantam hockey. It happens but is certainly not recommended.

i think it would be a bad idea because you would not get the most out of youth hockey , there is no playoffs and thats the most exciting part of the season and i think that 3 years is long enough to play high school hockey

My son did just that this year, played JV as an 8th grader, and had a great year. His case may be the exception, but it worked out great.

mrpucks, any concerns about an 8th grader being in the same locker room / bus with the 11th grade players ?

Never, never, never have an 8th grader play J.V. IF and its a big IF he is good enough to play VARSITY hockey, MAYBE. Your kid has to be a freakin stud to do that. Aka Schmitt, Schroeder, Lee

Dereu, No worries about lockerroom or bus. In fact, god help those 11th and 12th graders that gotta be with my kid! Actually he fit in great, some of his best friends are 2-3 years older than him anyhow. Like I said before though, it probably isn't for everyone.

Bigred, in our school district an 8th grader cannot play varsity. However the H.S. must have saw something or have somekind of plan to keep an 8th grader. All I can say is that an opportunity was made available to an 8th grader and he took it.

Yeah, I don't think the age is much of a problem. I played highschool for another sport in seventh grade and had no problems with age.

No way should a kid move up to jv. I can see a kid moving up to varsity because that might be worth it, but why move up to jv? There is no end of the year tourny and it just flat out proably would not be a good decision.

P.S. Although the last thing I would worry about was the age difference, I would worry about the size difference!

I would be more worried about getting hurt. I have seen 11th grade JV players go gunning for the smaller players. They know that they will never play varsity... so they have nothing to lose. If you are good enough to make a varsity team then thats your choice. But what is more fun ?...being the stud on the bantam team or the bench warmer on varsity?
